Also, since the Xbox 360 (2006 to be exact) I've purchased all of my games digitally. I have no need to go to a gaming store for them to swindle me out of my money with over priced items. I buy my games digitally and I ONLY buy them when they are on sale because I have OPTIONS on Xbox and PC. Seems to me like PlayStation and Nintendo fans are the only ones going into gaming stores to buy "physical" games when the game isn't even on the disc (in PlayStation's case). At least Switch carts mostly have the full game available. Oh and btway, buying games physically doesn't mean you own them. You buying a physical......... License to play the game. Let me explain: Xbox saying they lost the console war: They did lose the console war of Generation 8. When a business isn't succeeding with a business strategy they either close up shop, or ADAPT. Xbox adapted. We are not in a console war anymore (I've said this in one of my previous videos). There is now a war for your 'TIME'. 500M users figure is VERY misleading. For multiple reasons: 1. Obviously, it does not mean that there are 500M individuals using xbox games. 2. They have literaly purchased at least 400M of it. A good chunk of people playing CoD, Minecraft, Diablo and even Candy Crush doesn't have any idea they're playing Xbox games. 3. There are 200M+ active users for Candy Crush alone. I really doubt that your old aunt playing it have any awareness of Xbox brand. Adding the rest of King, we 4. People consuming Xbox Game Pass are around 34M. This is a much more fair comparison to Playstation's figures. Even with crappy PS Plus, playstation has more subscribers than Game Pass (47M active subscribers). Additional to that, there are several reports that GamePass subscripion numbers are WAY below its targets. 5. Organically (factoring only Xbox platform itself), Xbox has something around 50-60M active users. Which is a much more acurate comparison to PlayStation's 110M'ish active users. Breaking everything down, out of 500M MAU's - About 50% are King Games users (our Candy Crush Autines), which taps a COMPLETELY different market. Including this in these numbers is borderline ridiculous. it is almost as ridiculous as if Sony decide to include Sony Pictures' viewership in PlayStation figures... - About 35% are with Xbox acting as a Publisher (Activision, Bethesda, etc.), which actually helps Playstation to some extent. - About 15% are from actual Xbox. - Xbox is 15% platform holder and 85% 3rd party. So.... I don't think Xbox is outsmarting PlayStation by any means definately not in this generation nor in the next one. They are only leveraging Microsoft's deep pockets. They clearly have major advantages when it comes to cloud gaming. In my opinion we might be a bit far from having a cloud experience on par with console ones (next gen I still think will be mostly on premise), but when the time comes, Xbox will be miles ahead if PlayStation doesn't move.
@icheckvibes2 ай бұрын
@rcubellas - Thank you for checking the vibes and watching the video. I want to say I appreciate you for responding with actual figures. Your point of view seems very genuine and well informed. Here's MY TAKE on things: I will admit that the 500 million MAU figure was not achieved organically. I will also admit that while the ABK acquisition definitely helped the figure. The fact remains that any and all revenue and PROFIT is wholly owned by Microsoft (and Xbox by extension). with that said, my response is as follows: 1. While it does not mean that there are 500M individuals using Xbox CONSOLE games, it DOES mean that there are 500M individuals that are using products owned by Microsoft, of which Microsoft Gaming division is called Xbox. There's Xbox (the gaming division), Xbox (the platform), Xbox (the publisher), and Xbox (the developer - Mojang, Coalition, inExile, Turn10, etc.). Those products use a Microsoft/"Xbox" account to login to the servers (this is how Xbox can see the data showing the 500M MAUs). Those products includes games like Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, MSFT flight sim, Forza (both Horizon 5 and Forza reboot) to name a few. The 500M MAU number is (as I mentioned in the video) across ALL platforms including: PC, Xbox, Switch, Playstation, and Mobile platforms. This is a very valid number as when reporting to shareholders and investors, the revenue is counted as a part of the Xbox portion of the umbrella. 2. They absolutely acquired close to 400M of it (which is one of the reasons they outsmarted Sony because instead of money-hatting single games, developers or IPs, they purchased Publishers). A Great game is one where you don't care whether you're playing an Xbox owned game or not, but rather you are having fun and continuing to play those games and live in those worlds. 3. There are 200M+ active users for Candy Crush alone --Which is why the ABK deal was such a smart move. That Acquisition for 69.7 billion was something that Playstation (and by extension, Sony Interactive Entertainment) could not afford to do because they have spent so much money keeping games off of other platforms besides PC, PS, and Switch. You can bet your ass that my family members aren't aware and don't care that they are playing a game that was created by a company that Xbox purchased. They just want to have fun and play on whatever device they're using. Xbox is meeting people where they are instead of telling them to buy a piece of plastic just to play the games that they bring to the aforementioned piece of plastic. That leaves so much money on the table especially because said piece of plastic loses the company money for the first 2 - 4 years of manufacturing. Don't get me wrong, they will continue to make hardware because the best version of games will be on PC, the next best version will be on Console, followed by mobile, and finally Cloud. 4. The People subscribed to Xbox Game Pass WERE around 34M during the last earnings call. This number has surely increased as they have had quite the year in regard to keeping Game Pass stocked with new and exciting titles from all genres and for all play styles. Also, I would love for you to point me to Sony Interactive Entertainment/ PlayStation's reports of the number of PS Plus subscribers as of Q4 2024. I recall reading information that put that 47M active subscribers at a lower number. The so-called "reports" that Game Pass numbers are WAY below targets, is based off of information that was shared during the FTC trial for the ABK deal and is thrown around by the "talking heads" on KZbin without any context as to when that information was shared. Updated numbers were shared by Microsoft in their latest earnings call. Another thing, Q1 2025 will be a higher number of subscribers due to the juggernaut MW3's addition to Game Pass some weeks ago as well as Blk Ops 6 being added in a week. 5. Unfortunately for this discussion, we can NO LONGER consider just the Xbox platform itself as they are the largest Publisher of games worldwide (with only TenCent being close to the number of IP, titles, and developers owned). Due to this, you have to consider the PC, Nintendo Switch, Mobile (Android & iOS) and PlayStation platforms as well. While the Xbox console platform ITSELF has something around 50-60M active users, the remaining 440M come from the aforementioned platforms (PC, PS, Switch, Mobile). Which is why I mentioned that they're numbers are higher by a 5:1 ratio. Your numbers for breaking everything down, out of the 500M MAU's makes alot of sense. However, as I mentioned, regardless of the name of the company, IF the IPs are owned by Xbox, they are a part of the 500M active users bringing in profits (especially Micro Transactions). King absolutely taps a different market (which if I'm being honest, was the TRUE reason that they wanted ABK, not COD). They've wanted to launch an Xbox Mobile store for a very long time and King are the Kings (pun intended) of mobile. Including this in the numbers is necessary because they own the company and it's Intellectual property. Every time someone buys more time on Candy Crush Saga, or watches an ad, that money is deposited into King's business account, which is distributed up to Xbox and then up to Microsoft. it WOULD be ridiculous if Sony Interactive Entertainment (d.b.a. - PLAYSTATION) decided to include Sony Pictures' viewership in PlayStation's figures... Because they cannot; those are two different mediums for content. Like comparing Apples to Oranges for a lack of better terms. What SIE does do, is publish games on Xbox but labels the publisher as Bungie vs. using the PlayStation name as to seem as if they aren't publishing on other platforms like Xbox does. It's all about OPTICS with SIE/PlayStation. A better comparison would be like if SIE included Bungie's Destiny profits in their reports, or Stellar Blade, or Concord......oooh too soon. Yes, Publishing on PlayStation's platform does help PlayStation because they get a 30% cut of the games that are put there. EVERYONE WINS! - Xbox is 15% 1st Party Publisher (Xbox Game Studios) and 85% 3rd party .

@@icheckvibes Hey… on the first part of your reply: ABK Acquisition didn’t just “helped” the figures. It is literally responsible for more than 60% of it! Of course money spent there is on Microsoft (including Xbox) profits/revenue. But imagine that you start a company and a colleague of yours start another company in the same industry. Both fight for the same customers and you are outselling him 2:1. Then comes your colleague’s father and say “here you have 10M dollars to invest in your company and take this other company as well!”. While this is all legit and might make a lot of sense from a business perspective, does it mean that your colleague is outsmarting you? I don’t really think so. Outsmarting for me implies doing more with less, which is clearly not the case here. Seeing an opportunity and dumping an insane amount of money might be a good move (it is definitely a bold move… let’s see in the future if it actually make business sense), but is not outsmarting. About #1: 500M figures are basically just a sum of Xbox, Bethesda, Activision, Blizzard, King, etc. so if people consume from multiple places, they will apear multiple times here. A real example (myself): I play a lot of THPS on my PlayStation I will appear here under Activision. I also play Crash Bandicoot in my Steam Deck… I will appear once again here. I also sometimes subscribe to GamePass. I am definitely appearing at least 3x in this figure. Even if I consumed only Xbox I would appear multiple times here as well. While I completely understand that this is a valid number for shareholders, it is also 100% obvious that there are no 500M people playing, so, it does NOT mean 500M individuals. About #2: I think I already covered in the beginning. Of course it makes a lot of sense from business perspective, but is your colleague with deep pocket parents really outsmarting you? About #3: Of course Sony cannot afford ABK. It is MUCH smaller than Microsoft… Playstation is almost 40% of Sony while Xbox (including ABK and Zenimax) is less than 10% of Microsoft. ABK acquisition has much more to do with Microsoft being an absolute behemoth in cloud computing and software than to Sony’s strategy of keeping games exclusive. Once again, this is the rich parent situation. On the Candy Crush numbers: it would be a very smart move for Xbox if they could convert those 200M+ candy crush players into GamePass subscribers, otherwise it is part of a whole different market in which Sony is not focused on. About #4: GamePass subscription targets are not publicly available information, as you said, it came on FTC trials and/or leaked from internal presentations, but some serious medium (not only KZbinrs) have shared this information. On the PS Plus numbers: Sony stopped reporting subscribers last year, so there is no updated information here. These earnings reports are interesting, but they only show what companies want us to know (in the way they want us to know) or what they are absolutely required to by regulations. Of course Microsoft is expecting Game Pass subscribers to get a whole new level with ABK’s effect here, let us see how this evolves overtime. About #5: Xbox MAU numbers are definitely higher. Not 5:1, but a lot higher still. But, as I said, a good chunk of those 500M users are from markets that Sony simply does not play. It is something like… I cannot beat you playing Football, so I will start playing Basketball. If you don’t play Basketball, comparing it is pointless. Yeah… I mean.... We both agree that King is really playing on a different market. Effectively mobile gaming and console/PC gaming are different medium, that’s why I consider adding their figures into the mix is kinda ridiculous. Certainly it has to be in Xbox reports but that is because how Xbox is organized. If Sony Pictures were under PlayStation, their figures would be in PlayStation reports as well. Would it make sense? For an earning report, absolutely yes. To draw comparisons with Xbox, absolutely not. King’s figures are literally this, they just happen to be under Xbox brand. A little less obvious (but obvious still) are Activision, Blizzard and whatever other publisher: it is still a different market. It is effectively, as of now, a different market. They are Publisher to whatever platform. While PlayStation user base figures are basically PSN Accounts. So yes… adding ABK into the mix is basically comparing Apples to Oranges, just like it would if Sony decided to report Sony Pictures jointly. Sony/Playstation has an optics, but Microsoft/Xbox also has. They both report their numbers their way and they are not directly comparable and we should not be naive on drawing such comparisons. About the 15% first party and 85% third party. You said it well, 85% of Xbox is publishing across multiple platforms mostly because of ABK and Zenimax, which PlayStation simply don’t do (no rich daddy). It’s simply not comparable. You can compare through Playstation with the 15% of first party. From now on your comment, I see a very passionate view that is heavily biased towards Xbox which I think is OK, but not really worth discussing, so I will just share my some of experience: I consider myself a hardcore gaming consumer. I own basically every single current major platform. While PlayStation is where I consider my favorite exclusives are, I also play quite a few of Xbox games. Game Pass is a phenomenal service, it is the most cost effective way to play some bad games (hahaha)… I don’t really care for most of Microsoft IPs (just some of Activision like Crash and THPS and Bethesda like Elder Scrolls and Fallout) I keep signing / cancelling my Game Pass subscription because I simply decided it is better to subscribe for a month when something of my interest is out there. Last thing that made me subscribe was Starfield one year ago. And looking up to the end of 2025 I only see Fable potentially drawing my interest and maybe Indiana Jones (1st person perspective is a major red flag for me, but I’m open to see how it plays). Im definitely not the kind of loyal customer that Microsoft prefer. This said, I really think that PlayStation was really losing what made it a great place to play: its major exclusives. Over some years there was an insane obsession on live service games that most of PlayStation fans don’t really care about. Over the past few months I see Concord flopping, Last of Us live service being cancelled and Sony as a whole major downsizing its idea for live service gaming. It is hurting their line up of games, but that’s for the best. About cloud gaming: I think we will see it actually playable on the next generation. But rather a full cloud gaming, I’m more hyped for a hybrid scenario. We can see what Microsoft achieved in Flight Simulator, where the world texture/information are streamed on to the console/pc. Imagine a massive open world game with characters controlled by generative AI models in the cloud. It would be much more organic, lively, while maintaining the advantages of a dedicated hardware.

I think you are misrepresenting this. Microsoft owns xbox. Microsoft went on a studio buying binge because they had barely any exclusive games. Microsoft is putting their efforts into existing popular franchises and properties. Xbox is the division that creates consoles and hardware and subscriptions to sell. If they are consistently selling less consoles then they aren't winning. Microsoft is adjusting their strategy in regards to gaming. They are finally putting emphasis on what they should have. There is more to gaming for Microsoft than just xbox. Windows is still the highest install for PC gaming. Yet they aren't the leader in PC game sales either. Putting all of this on xbox like they suddenly pulled some Houdini shit is ridiculous.

@@braveryatitsfinest1569 That's not really a Microsoft problem that's literally a every console manufacturer problem. They sell consoles at a loss with the intent to make up those costs on game sales, peripherals and subscriptions for online access. Look at the steam deck it's the same thing. However valves stake in PC gaming is so firm that they are fine with losing money on the console. They reap their money from being the premier online retail store for pc gaming software. Well also they have all the goodwill in the world. Continue to innovate and also don't charge extra for being able to play online.
@icheckvibes2 ай бұрын
I appreciate you checking out the video and leaving a comment. You feel I may be misrepresenting this, and you're entitled to your opinions. While Microsoft absolutely owns Xbox, I would like to point out one thing about their ownership. MSFT, Corp is a conglomerate. Each one of their divisions operate as separate businesses, each with their own set of leadership that reports to: Board of directors, CEO/Chairman, CFO, Ect. I.e - Sarah Bond is the President of Xbox, however Phil Spencer is the Head of "Microsoft Gaming". See the two distinctions in titles. The purchasing of publishers and developers was originally done while Phil Spencer was in Sarah Bond's current role as 'president of Xbox' (before he was promoted to Senior Leadership which is a Microsoft level position). The "Xbox division" is less of a division and more of an arm or leg of MSFT. With that said, Xbox is so much more than just hardware (consoles, accessories, Research & development) and Subscriptions. What I keep in mind is MSFT has always been a software company. Naturally Xbox is at it's heart a software company first and foremost. Realistically all 3 of the Main platforms are software companies. Software MAKES money. Hardware does not make money until about halfway through MOST generations (this Generation is different as I believe that even with refreshed hardware Xbox is still losing money on manufacturing consoles - just not as much money). That's the point of going to 6nm fabrication). As far as adjusting the strategy, that decision was made by Phil Spencer along with Sarah Bond, but the decisions were influenced by MICROSOFT CFO Amy Hood and CEO Satya Nadella. Essentially Xbox took a $85 billion loan from parent company Microsoft to adjust to changing market trends and revitalize the Xbox business. I mentioned this as the first point of 'what Xbox did': "They Revitalized their business" - that means they adjusted their definition of "Winning". Instead of trying to 'Out Console Sony', they decided as a company to lean on what their strengths were: namely owning Windows and developing software. The last piece of that puzzle is they found a way to subsidize the software through Xbox GamePass
@icheckvibes2 ай бұрын
@braveryatitsfinest1569 yup, every platform holder loses money at the beginning of a console generation. That why they eventually shrink the die on SOC chips so it costs less to manufacture. Most of the time, by that point in a generation, they have made their ROI by selling software. Because they lose money on consoles, it makes sense to keep making consoles for the user base but ALSO to extend to other devices that have computing power. Sony loses money too, but they said "nah we gonna pass that cost to our fanbase" by selling the PS5 PRO for $700 making themselves a profit of about $200 - $220 for each unit.

You forgot a few points: Whether you "BUY" a game or use subscription services like PS Plus / Game Pass, you are only given a license to play the game while it's available. Don't believe me? Think I'm clueless, take some time to read the EULA (End User License agreement) that you agree to before you can even play ANY GAMES. Physical buyer? Yeahhh bad news, the full game isn't on your disc; instead you have a portion of the game, metadata and hex code that acts as a local license to allow you console to download the rest of the game. Whether you're buying discs or digital, (on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC) What you're essentially doing is renting the game before it is delisted. Good thing about Xbox is if the game is delisted, and you already bought it, (as long as it's not like 'the Crew' then you will be able to redownload the game and enjoy it. Game Pass entices customers to buy the games throughout the entire contract AND when the games are leaving game pass (when the contract ends), the games are ALWAYS on sale. Devs like this because your subscription price was calculated and paid upfront by Xbox to the developer & publisher and then you turned around and bought the game. They don't care that it's on sale because that has literally increased how much you spent on the game. Devs absolutely prefer for people to buy the games, but if they can get an Xbox bag AND sell the games to people that played them on game pass, they are doubling up without having to do the heavy lifting that Xbox is already doing on the backend. You perspective is small in scope and you may need to rethink about your position from a big business standpoint. Game Pass Ultimate is $20 per month in USA. That's cheaper than Prime, Disney Plus/ Hulu, ECT. The sheer amount of games you can play or TRY without shelling out $70 is priceless. I'm not trying to convince you otherwise, but I need you to understand that you have to think about how OTHER people feel about Game Pass and how they are affected by it vs. what you heard/ read/ seen online. "Perception is what we make it. But knowledge is how you create it"

Yeah I'm convinced you're living in a bubble. Software sales are the strongest they've ever been on Xbox. You clearly don't have a knowledgeable contact within the Xbox ecosystem and that's okay. What a lot of developers do (because it's expensive to make games), they focus on developing for the platform with a high install base. To get an influx of money, they release that game (say for instance on PS5). THEN when they have that profit, they then reinvest the money into the next platform with a high install base (PC). Finally they WILL go for the next biggest platform (that can run the game with relative ease) in order to tap into that market of players (Xbox). Developers have not skipped the Xbox, it was just too expensive (from a manpower standpoint as well as time standpoint) to develop for all platforms at once. GameScience (Black Myth Wukong) are a prime example of PC/mobile developers that (at that time) were not able to target all platforms for monetary reasons. But as I'm sure you're aware the game was just rated by the ESRB for all three platforms. Which essentially means that they are using the 10 million sales of the game (which was mostly sold on PC) to finally bring the game to Xbox. Not everything you read or hear on the internet is true. Be careful which content creators you trust and what tiktoks you believe.

I've always been a fan of owning multiple systems for their unique IPs and user experience. Stellar Blade and the new Silent Hill have me tempted, but without the ability to play my entire PlayStation library, that's just two games and a new controller + their subscription model to play anything that might entice me in the multiplayer world going forward at a big cost. Nabbed the series X during lockdown and one game. I was already invested and was able to dig into my back catalogue along with that $1.00 game pass deal they were running at the time to try something new. Absolutely loved this because it felt like the evolution of those demo disks we got back in the day when we subscribed to magazines for $15 per month, but it was the entire damn game. Folks are looking at this model the wrong way. Now this being said, I'm 100% against games not being on the physical disk at purchase, requiring a download. That's some bullshit. Like, imagine trying to fire up a game on your system that is no longer officially supported on their servers for a console you own and getting an error message that the disk was a limited time use ticket. Not that the disk was scratched because you're an asshole at taking care of your belongings. That pisses me off. Hell, I still have VHS tapes I can pop in a vcr tonight that work flawlessly because I paid for them and took care of 'em. 3rd party devs who release physical carts on the Switch are the absolute worst offenders these days. All my Nintendo games that Nintendo developed function and are completable (is that a word?). But damnit, I am so grateful for my 360 bioshock disks on the 360, because the Nintendo cart only comes with a miniscule portion of the games without a download. Shit still works on my dusty ass 360s, and pc. Completed data. For the record though, my favorite system is the ps1. So many great series transitioned to the Xbox & back to the Nintendo line of systems that originated / transplanted momentarily.

Honestly, I don't understand how the FTC steps in to try to block an acquisition but won't step in and FORCE publishers to actually give us the full game on disc/cart or FLASHDrives, and fix the DRM issues in America. It's almost 2025 and the games industry is at a turning point. I think we should really push the narrative that we want new updated DRM policies that keep companies from taking games out of our digital libraries and force them to archive those games online (via emulation or otherwise) so that when the time comes and the servers are gone, we will still be able to validate that we purchased a game and get the digital download from the archive. The government is taking the opposite stance and shutting down Game preservation archives.....What a world we live in.

It has controller support already and actually they wouldn't even need to add $5 more per month (like they did with EA play) because they own the IP via Blizzard and therefore it would be another selling point for GamePass. Xbox is an excellent, affordable entry point for modern gaming...but way too redundant and borderline pointless if you already own or are planning to buy an XSX equivalent or better PC. I'm actually glad exclusives are starting to become a thing of the past, as it means we'll all be able to enjoy the same games without having to buy a handful of redundant computing boxes. It doesn't matter what platform you play them on anymore, as they're all "good enough" (except for Switch, ofc -- but it's just good enough to be emulated well, so moot point)

You could always buy the Xbox games as they come to PC and you have the option to subscribe to Game Pass PC or Game Pass ultimate in the future! I have never liked the idea of exclusive titles, but that was the way that consoles stood out from their competition in the past. It is a old standard that has outlived it's usefulness in today's market. The PS and Xbox have been using x86 processors since Generation 7. There's really no reason why we should HAVE to buy both to play certain games. They are so close to "baby PCs", that they are using laptop grade SoC inside of them. I say to hell with exclusives, sell me Playstation titles on Xbox and Xbox Titles on Playstation so I can play with my friends and family no matter which platform they chose.

In which case, I would say YOU ARE RIGHT! CFO Amy Hood and CEO Satya Nadella forced Xbox's hand into going multiplatform because they needed to see a return of investment for roughly 85 billion that they've spent over the past 6 - 7 years acquiring developers and publishers (ABK was 69.7 billion alone). They arent making quality games worth playing and its been that way for years. They are in last place dude just accept it. They are competing with themselves and still losing 😂
@icheckvibes2 ай бұрын
You got your facts a tad bit wrong. Xbox isn't asking consumers why they aren't buying. They are asking developers why they are missing the platform. The results from those surveys are that it takes more time (& time = money) & resources to get the game optimized for Series consoles. Most developers figure they can get an influx of cash by releasing on PS and use that cash to keep the lights on so they can then get an Xbox release out later. Also GamePass is very profitable and thus sustainable as the games are subsidized but after 3 months of being subscribed, you've already paid the cost for a single game. So if consumers aren't playing at least 4 games a month while subscribed, then it's a profitable win for Xbox. Think about a $70 game, 3 months of XGP ultimate is $59.99. you could buy BLk Ops 6 for full price or you can subscribe to Game Pass. However, if you ONLY play BLk ops 6 and nothing else while subscribed, it would be better for the gamer to just buy the game. That's why I play EVERYTHING that comes to Game Pass to get my $20 worth. If I like it, I'll buy it at sale price (Kunitsu-Gami is one of those titles). Even if you buy a physical copy of ANY game, you have to agree to an EULA (end-user license agreement) that clearly states {if you read it all}, you don't own the game. You are purchasing a license to play the game and interact with others within the game. The only thing on the Blu-ray discs for both PS5 & Series X|S is metadata and hash code that acts as a local license to allow your box to play the game. When you look at things from that perspective, why not just subscribe to the game? The new version will be out in a year anyways and you can just play that when it comes out. Like leasing a BMW. You never own the car, but you can get a new upgraded model every two years and stay in a fresh car.

@glenntaylor266, sorry my friend, but you're living in a bubble. YOU are talking about consoles. No one else is, because selling consoles is only the first part of actually "winning". The definition of winning can be different for every company. Sony may feel they're winning because they money-hat games in order to hurt Xbox by keeping those games off the platform. Xbox is at a point now, where IT DOES NOT MATTER if sony money-hats. Xbox is now the biggest publisher of games and if developers think that making their games exclusive to one platform will be sustainable, they will get a rude awakening (Just like SquareEnix is learning right now). Winning for Xbox is getting Xbox games on ALL computing devices with a screen and bluetooth. In that regard, they are winning. Sony has a playstation remote play app, and the portal. But those portals aren't doing so well....

It's cool that you got here to the comments without watching the video. Not sure how that happened, but I'm glad you're here nonetheless. the term "Last place" insinuates that there is a race going on. May I ask, what "race" are you referring to? By what metrics or standards are you saying they are last place? Could you possibly be talking about losing Gen 8 when they failed to come close to the number of consoles PlayStation sold, or perhaps it's something else entirely. Saying they're last place is subjective at best. Also, no one that owns just an Xbox cares about exclusives. YES, exclusives give your console an identity. This much is very true. But most people who own an Xbox also have another device like PC, switch, or PS. Pretty much everyone has a smart phone these days. So what good are exclusives to people like that? Exclusives do very little in today's market to sell consoles. Look at the way console sales are down 33% year-over-year for BOTH PS and Xbox platforms. There is zero indication that in 2024 an exclusive game is going to sell 10s of millions of consoles. Black Myth Wukong sold 10 million copies and a huge majority of those sales were on PC, not PlayStation. The ecosystem, the user interface; the social experience, the ability to buy an "Xbox Play Anywhere" game on Xbox (ONE TIME) and have that same game available on PC (without paying another dollar); Starting a game on Xbox, then streaming it to your phone, then switching to your PC with your save data and achievements following you; watching your friend stream their game on Discord, having the peace of mind that all of your Xbox games will be forward compatible and play on Next-gen devices -- are all reasons why people choose Xbox. Whereas on Playstation, they're raising the prices of PS4 games (Horizon Zero Dawn which before the announcement of a remaster WAS $15 now it's $34.99) in order to force you to pay more for a remaster if you didn't already own the game AND charging a PS Plus subscription fee for the ability to have cloud saves....So if you want to say Xbox is in last place for console sales, I won't fight you on that; but in the same vein PlayStation is in last place in consumer-friendly practices.

@icheckvibes2 ай бұрын
You're absolutely right. In fact since the slim came out they were no longer selling at a loss. That was the purpose of shrinking the die and using cheaper components to cool the machine. The fact still remains that if they were no longer taking a loss on those consoles then they turned around and release a mid-gen refresh with increased GPU clock speeds and the "ability" to overclock the CPU by 10%, it stands to reason that they COULD have sold the device for $600 and still make a profit. Which in turn means that they are passing the cost to the consumer and making more profit on top of it because they are trying anything to make their strategy of selling consoles continue to win.
