I bought a 2007 RSV in 2012. Rode it until I traded in last year for a brand new Star Venture Transcontinental tourer. This old Venture is a VERY comfortable machine and looks nice. I put a taller windshield on it. I only had two issues with this machine: I travel a lot for work and it would sit long enough for the carbs to foul. The second issue is that I always thought it needed a 6th gear. Other than that, this is a fine machine. I had no problem passing people on the highway in 5th gear. She could get up and go. If you are looking for an inexpensive touring machine that looks good then this is a great buy.
@jordanblair54109 ай бұрын
IMO five gears is plenty for that bike because it has a higher rpm powerband than a v-twin, so it's designed to operate in the higher range because that's where it's power and torque are. If it had a sixth gear it could only be used on downhills or long flat stretches at 75+ mph speeds, and would have to be downshifted on any kind of grade or to pass. As for the bike sitting for long periods, adding Stabil and Lucas ethanol treatment to the gas should eliminate carb issues. It would be interesting to hear your experience with the SVT vs the RSV.

A buddy traded his Royal Star in for an Ultra. Bought all the HD gear...regretted the trade. Loved the quality and reliability of the Venture, hated all the little issues he had w the HD. The HD was in the shop more in the first year he had it than the entire time he had the Star. I think the star came w a 5 year 50k warranty, that says a lot about the bike.

I have a 2011 Yamaha RSV. I love it. My wife and I rode out to South Dakota (almost into Wyoming) and back from western PA. This bike was made to eat miles, and perform its task comfortably. I am in a RSV/ Tour Deluxe group online. Some of the owners have got 200k miles on their bike. Whoever gets this bike will be getting an amazing machine.

Hi Sean. Just thought I would mention that this bike is 807lbs. dry! It is 869lbs. wet with all fluids added! I currently own a 2007, and love it. Harley guys scoff at it, but the bike is faster than most Harley cruisers, and liquid cooled. Throw a couple K&N filters in both air intakes and hang on. The cat killer tires are nice on the highway as well. Don't get me wrong, I love LOOKING at Harley's, they're nice machines, but that's about it. Radio, storage for weeks, air shocks, CB, and 98 horses stock. What's not to like? Ride your own ride guys!

I had a 99 RSV that i wrecked, went back to the first gen 1988 Venture Royale. I like the full fairing and the standard seating position better. The Venture Royale is faster than the RSV (not quite as good of mileage) and have happily put 70k miles on it since then. Its got 92k miles right now. My lady and I use the intercom system and chat with my buddy through the CB on his Road Glide. They hold up just as well as the new ones sans some of the audio features. No matter. I replaced the tape deck with a bluetooth receiver and installed heated grips. The Venture Royales also have an electronic air ride suspension with an integrated pump. Great machine and I wont quit riding it til the bearings start to knock!

I had a 2005 Royal Star Midnight Venture I rode for 10 years. It was a great bike. Beautiful bike, very comfortable, tons of storage, and it never left me stranded. The little 1300cc V-4 was surprisingly quick too when you kept the revs up. Just a solid bike. My only complaint about it would be that it was very top heavy so you really had to watch it riding two up in parking lots. Never dropped it though because I was always mindful of that characteristic.

Bought an '08 about 2 months ago , after owning several old CB750-4's, a C50 Blvd, and a couple V-Star 650's (Classic and a Silverado) over the years. Windhsield height is the only thing I maybe have to deal with. I'm tall enough that it cuts right into my line of site unless I sit up real tall or crouch a bit. You get used to the 800+ pounds, the bike is pretty nible for something this heavy, and plenty of power for two-up in the California hills. Comfortable and smooth enough for all day rides. Loving it so far.

Just traded in my '05 Venture for a 2018 Goldwing. Had a love hate relationship with the Venture for 13 years. Loved the look...hated the incessant clutch basket whine. The bike was a tank made to do 80 mph in a straight line all day long. Around town it sucked. Had no liw end torque and was top heavy as hell. This guy misquoted the weight by 107 lbs...said it weighs 800 lbs...wet weight is 907 and you feel every pound of it at low speeds. Never realized how much work it was to ride until I got the Goldwing which at 833 lbs handles like a 500 lb bike.

The worst bike I ever owned was a 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe. The trany, or primary drive had a pulsing shriek that was unavoidable. On the road, there was no combination of speed or gear that wasn’t miserable. Most of the time, when you shifted it, it would backfire. It would wander all over the place in on-ramps. This bike missed the H-D crowd because it was a water cooled, four cyclinder, shaft drive cruiser. And it wasn't H-D. Water cooling allows for higher compression and thus, like a sport bike, more power per cc. Yamaha has always been great at bringing sport bike features to Cruisers. The Stratoliner, intoduced in 2006, had four valves per cyclinder, ceramic heads or sleeves, aluminum frame and an EXUP valve on the exhaust.

He keeps talking about engine size... It’s not apples to apples. He’s comparing a four cylinder to a V-Twin. Plus, the Harley Twin Cams had 2 valves per cylinder and pushrods to the Yamaha’s four valves and overhead cams. So yeah, the Yamaha can deliver more power with less displacement than the Harley big twins. The difference though, is in the SOUND. I had a Yamaha Royal Star tour deluxe (same bike without the fairing or stereo.). It sounded like CRAP. People buy big cruisers for the look and the sound, and a big V-Twin, pushrod, Harley motor just sounds MUCH BETTER. I have an Ultra Limited now with a Twin Cam 103 H.O., and there’s no way I would trade it for the Yamaha V4. These aren’t race bikes, and the low end torque of the Harley V twin is perfect.

Still such a brand stigma against metric cruisers. I don't understand it at all.
@ronfriedman87405 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. If anything HD has an undesirable reputation nowadays with shrinking sales. Sure, you still have the dyed in the wool HD fans showing up at Sturgis and all the other drunk fests, but let's see how they accept the Livewire & Pan America. For that matter I don't see any Streets on the road or even in the showroom floor. If HD continues guessing (and flopping) at what younger riders want, more HD riders will continue to switch over to Indian ...just my two cents.
@ronfriedman87405 жыл бұрын
@Penetrator ...but HDs are and my point was that a lot of the stigma of owning a metric came from HD owners. Remember the Tshirts that read "I'd rather push my HD than ride a Honda"? Second, now that HD failed to sell sufficient quantities of small displacement Streets, that were manufactured in India, I predict it they won't sell any electric $30k Livewires and time will tell if any HD owners will buy a ADV bike called the Pan America. Why would I want an unreliable, unproven HD ADV bike when I could buy a BMW GS or a KTM 1290 Adventure? Shit, a Suzuki Vstrom is a better alternative - even an Africa Twin. When HD finally recognizes their horrible mistake trying to capture younger riders manufacturing hhitty bikes nobody wants, I bet a bunch of HD owners will give up and make the switch to the other American offering. BTW, both sell over priced motorcycles - not many millennials will fork over $30k+ for a Roadmaster or a Chieftain.

I have a 1996 yamaha royal star and I'm at 40k miles and yet to have any problems. Does 70 on highway no problem

My first bike was a 2012 heritage Softail. After putting 50k on it without any problems whatsoever I did what most Harley owners do, buy another Harley, got a 19 road glide special. It's not the best bike for the money that wins, it's the living, breathing machine under you. Harley's have something that I can't explain. I've ridden different bikes but I wouldn't trade for any of them.

matt hofer - A Harley doesn’t have anything special over any other brand - that part is in your head, and that’s fine. Some people feel the same way about Triumph, BMW or some other brand and that’s in their heads, too.

matt hofer - There’s a difference between your motorcycle putting a smile on your face (I’m glad of that) and claiming that “Harley’s have something that you can’t explain”. You can’t explain it because it’s your thought process, not the motorcycle.

@@406life doesn't matter what bike you ride, if you're a real rider and rack up lots of miles your bike will need work. I have a hoard of 50s-60s-70s-80s harleys and ride the crap out of them, my 82 flh is stroked with hot cam, pisses guys off with the newest bikes, smokes em hahahahaha. Oh I do all my own work.

0 to 60 you shifted way too soon, you can crank it up more, it has a rev limiter so you can't hurt it. I used to hit close to 50 in 1st gear on my 05.

I have my doubts about its reliability. As my 2009 got broken exhaust camshaft during acceleration 😀 Luckily valves were up so no damage to piston, cylinder and valves. Now waiting for repair. Took couple of months to even find someone who will do that. Because even as it was made from 1999 to 2013 and you can still buy new camshaft....you can't buy head and amount of people worldwide who can fix these scratches is getting lower and lower.....

Which bike is bigger. The Ventura or the Road Star?
@rudra_rdy4 жыл бұрын
The road star is a 1700cc and it’s obvious bigger bike than a venture 1300cc
