When I pulled down from the center holding the shift key the circle formed starting in the lower bottom right quadrant. I had to start in the upper left quadrant to make the circle and wasn't a perfect fit in the 1000x1000 image created. I've always had problems creating this shape for some reason.
@majik8958 жыл бұрын
Just wanted to say I found for me using shift + alt works instead of using just shift. I'm using 2015.0.0 if that matters.
@HTGGeorge8 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, here is some clarification for other viewers of this video (since you already found it out). Holding down the Shift key makes the Ellipse tool draw a perfect circle, by default the tool draws from the upper left corner. Holding down the Alt key makes the tool draw from the center. So, holding down both the Shift key and the Alt key at the same time will draw a perfect circle starting at the center. The best way to use this on this video project is to put in guidelines centered on the horizontal and vertical so that you have a center reference point. Then start your circle from that point while holding down both the Shift and Alt keys as you pull the circle out to the size you want. BTW the Alt key trick does not work in CS4 or earlier. George

Hi Andy, one more thought. If you are using PS 2015 you should get the update, Photoshop just went to 2017. Since 2015 is part of Adobe's new CC subscription method of buying Photoshop the upgrade is free. Just check your Creative Cloud to get the update or go to the Help menu in Photoshop and do the update. George

One other thing I noticed is when making the new guide I couldn't get the lines to show up. Kept typing in 500 yet no lines were showing up. after about the fifth attempt i decided to put the px at the end of the 500 which I noticed you did not do. If other are having the same problem with getting the guide line to show up that may be the problem. It might just all be what version of Photoshop you are using.

Ive made 2 path's in the inner circle. One for an image en the second one to type a text in the inner circle. The text won't appear because it stays behind the first path. Can you help me with this problem? Thanks
@HTGGeorge9 жыл бұрын
+Ramo Temirci Hi, by default Photoshop puts all paths onto the same work path. It is like layers and the work path is like the background layer. To separate the paths open the Paths panel (Window menu). It looks like the Layers panel but says Paths. You will see Work Path as the only path. Create new paths by clicking the new path button at the bottom of that panel. The Work Path will always stay at the bottom, just like Background stays at the bottom of layers, but the other paths can be re-ordered by dragging. So make one new path for your text and one new path for your image, then make sure that the text path is above the image path.

This is all very useful stuff to know, thanks very much. I have a question, I want to create a dial face for clock. After I have it arranged I'll use the image to have vinyl cut. I would also like to evenly space images around the same circle. Can you tell me how to accomplish this, thanks Douglas
@HTGGeorge6 жыл бұрын
Hi Douglas, arranging images around a circle requires a different approach and if you are doing it for a clock face you would want to have the images at precise positions. The trick is to divide the circle up into degrees. A circle is 360 degrees and clocks are divided into 12 segments so each segment would be 30 degrees. I will add this to my suggested video list and see if I can get to it soon. George
@dougcain2506 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, George, I would assume if you want to use images in place of numbers it will be the same process?
@HTGGeorge6 жыл бұрын
Hi Doug, you are right, same concept. You need to establish the necessary positions around the circle, then it is an easy matter to place whatever you want at those points. In this video wrapping text around a circle is fairly easy to do but it does not allow for precise positioning which is what you need for a clock face. You can of course use this trick for decoration, here is a video I did using this technique to put a circle of stars around an image kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZC8k2yjaZxjeq8. This trick works equally well in either Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, same technique. George

This is a great video. I am having som problems. I'm using CC and some of the keyboard short cuts don't work. Such as Shift+Alt resize shirt cut. Instead another tool appears, which seems to be a pallet tool. Also, when I hover over the path with the text tool, the font does t appear even though it appears on the leader window. Please help. Thanks!
@HTGGeorge9 жыл бұрын
+Adrian Colchado Hi, on the keyboard, make sure that you are on the circle layer, then go to Edit/Transform/Scale first. Now when you hold the shift key and the alt key at the same time it will allow you to scale the circle exactly and keep the center in place. The Shift key makes the scale work proportionally (stays a circle) and the Alt key scales from the center. Both at the same time lets you scale a circle cleanly from the center. If you hold down the shift key and the alt key then go to resize it will not work properly. Select Scale first then hold down the Shift and Alt keys, then do the resize. If you hold the shift and alt keys then try to resize without selecting the Transform setting from the Edit menu you will make a copy of the circle with dimensions showing for positioning. Neat shortcut by itself, but not what we are doing in this demo. Not exactly clear about your second question, maybe you could state that more fully. Normally you won't see any font until you start typing. Click the path before typing. Not sure if this is the right answer to your question.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I am having ab it of a problem with the part where you paste the picture into the middle of the circle. I can't seem to select the circle - when I follow your instructions I come up with a drop down menu that says 'Blending Options, Select Pixels etc etc..'. When I paste the image it appears within the whole canvas. What am I doing wrong? Thank you!
@HTGGeorge6 жыл бұрын
Hi Katie, in that drop down list you want the item Create Clipping Mask. What this does is place the contents of a layer into the contents of the layer beneath. So if you have a circle, or letter, or other shape on one layer and an image on the layer right above that layer then right clicking on the image layer and selecting Create Clipping Mask will put that image inside of the circle, letter, other shape, etc. George

What photoshop do you use? I dont have the 400,500,600...and i cant make the horizontal/vertical line.
@HTGGeorge8 жыл бұрын
Hi, this video is demonstrated in Photoshop CS6 but this technique can be done in much earlier versions as well. If you are using Photoshop Elements instead of Photoshop you will not be able to do this technique. If you are using Photoshop and you are not seeing the rulers you can bring those up by going to the View menu and clicking on Rulers. I have my rulers set to show Pixels. You can adjust the measurement system by right clicking the ruler to bring up the measurement system drop down menu, just set it for Pixels. I've a question, which I should know the answer to but for some reason I've forgot. The writing is level either side? that's to do with top dot and bottom?
@HTGGeorge8 жыл бұрын
Hi, keeping the writing level on both sides requires attention to 2 details. First make sure that your text is set to Centered, then make sure you click your insertion point at the top center for the top text and the bottom center for the bottom text. Since the text is center justified it will spread both left and right as you type and will be even on both sides. George

I notices that when you use the Direct Selection tool to flip your text, it looks like arrows pointing side by side. When I tried it, mine's just an arrow pointing to the right. How will I make it like yours?

Hi, when you place your text on the path make sure that your text is set to Centered. If your text is set to Left Justify you will see an arrow pointing right, if your text is set to Right Justify you will see an arrow pointing left, if the text is set to Center Justify you will get the two arrows.
