The most complete, in-depth guide to Stephen Curry's shooting technique that you will find on the internet.
In this video I go over both the large and small details of Curry's shooting form, and how someone like you might be able to adopt them for your own game. As with any comparison to a pro athlete, you should probably start with limited expectations; if it was that easy, everyone would be doing it. That's not to say that you shouldn't try to better yourself, especially in the area of shooting. Being able to shoot has become the no.2 desired trait in basketball behind height. Enjoy!

What a great video! Specifically the section on loading the hips/knees/ankles while raising the ball. Figuring out the optimal way to load and unload my hips was the single biggest key to my shot. I find no one discusses this because its such a complicated topic. But this is a great primer to get started with.

First thing, good video, I think you should get more Subs. Second thing, I notice is that Curry got a solid metal form of his upper body. When he shoots or after he shot, his upper body includes his neck/head/chest etc keep well stabilized which allows his shoot posture constant throughout the entire release process!

Thank you for making this video! I was shooting outside on my basketball goal today and before I've even heard of this video I tried to do what a lot of coaches say which is keep your elbow underneath the ball and your palm pointing straight at the rim but it just causes to much tension for me and when I didn't do that and when I didn't shoot like that I would make a lot more of my shots

Bringing the ball up to your shooting pocket while loading feels weird at first but it helps the ball not slip and it keeps you from having a pate release and most importantly for me it makes you really flick your release the way Steph does giving you maximum touch.

Killed it here. Steph probably has one of the hardest shots in the world to replicate. So many moving parts. Especially his unique hand placement. I think his hand placement allows him to catch really quickly with no adjustment. My guess is he got the habit of pulling back the off hand just to make sure it doesn't get involved in the shot.
@CHRISTIAN-fq4et

So Kobe and MJ who have big wingspans, have shots easier to replicate? I mean, putting the ball in front of the eye is much easier than above your head; keeping your elbow straight vertically is more difficult than curry s elbow. Why is Curry s form the most difficult one? It is much more natural

Lol so many things discussed here come naturally... I used to think I had a huge backyard lean in my shot but it turns out it's exactly what you mentioned, where my upper body stays the same as my lower body sweeps forward... In short, don't try to force these things, just get the fundamentals down. I hope nobody makes a deliberate effort to do everything in this video... It's mainly informative and, as a guide, supplemental to most others. Thanks for making this

I've seen this video a couple of times and tried to implement some of Curry's techniques in shooting. The hand placement of the ball and the thumb flick works for me very well. The only thing that doesn't work for me is the way Curry jumps (his base). He did say in the video that techniques Curry uses works for him but may not work for us, so I'm gonna say that this video is 100% ACCURATE and LEGIT.👍👍

larry bird actually used some power from his left hand in his shot, thumb flick, and was probably the greatest all court shooter of all time (not 3 pt, but probably had way more potential there, he didn't grow up on that and it wasn't a part of nba offensive philosophy to a great extent in his era, it wasn't emphasized in games or practice)

Klay's style works for spot up shooting. Curry is the greatest shooter ever in part because he can flow into so many kinds of shots, including off the dribble. His fluidity is essential for that

@@simonanderson4858 well Klay’s shot works off the dribble, it’s very similar to booker’s, curry’s shot is much less versatile as it’s more difficult to create separate on dribble pull ups and fades with it

My theory is that Curry’s off hand is just a follow through type thing and his thumb doesn’t affect his shot. My main reason is that if his thumb was really flicking the ball his off hand or palm would rotate towards the rim like kyrie. He really just tucks his thumb it’d be hard to push the ball just using your thumb without rotation in the hand.

eh I only got one question does the ball height matter? im having problems with arc and i realize im over shooting the arc. my arm, however, goes lower than currys on the followthrough, limiting the height because I cant force my arm to go higher. I also need to know if I need to sway or not. I used to hit 80/85 when I was off balance and swayed from 3 point from freethrow region... no joke, but it changed a little. Then I hit around 70/85 when it felt I wasnt shooting, but my arms felt really comfortable. Now I'm at a point where I cant make 30, because of constant airballs because of followthrough problems and wrist flick. It kinda feels forced. any help?

No one ever talks about Vision when shooting. I think this is a key factor. I think Lonzo is left eye dominant which is why he shoots weird. Overall vision quality has to be a factor. Tiger woods go better after if got laser eye surgery. I don't have stats on this but I am sure it is true.

My theory is that the guide hand arm is going backwards because he’s using his guide hand to create resistance. Like a catapult. His guide hand is being used for more than just holding the ball. Force is being pushed in reverse of the shot. The arm goes backwards because it’s pushing that way. And his shot flicks through with more power and spin. I’ve experimented with it a bit myself and it really brings out a truth that it’s not all legs. Yes legs must be timed right. But there is also a great deal being done from the release.

i finally figured it out...its not the thumb becuase he still flicks it and thumb flicks are pretty common and they work for alot of players. its the fact that he tilts his feet in such a way that his shooting shoulder is abit ahead of his other one which, a big reason his shot is that smooth and he can go 45 degrees with his elbow.

Jordan to fix this start closer to the basket and focus on your form and develop muscle memory. Gradually shoot further. Always warmup with shots inside. Shoot hundreds of shots a day and your shot will become more consistent

nice video man, i notice that curry doesnt jump foward. why doesnt he jump foward?
@ScotShotBasketball
@ScotShotBasketball 6 жыл бұрын
He barely even jumps off the ground, giving him little time to move forward with his feet. Also, like I showed in the video, his upper body seems to counteract some of the forward lean he gets in his lower body, so I think this reverse motion limits how far his legs swing forward when he jumps.

what do you mean when saying vertical alignment when releasing please explain?
@ScotShotBasketball
@ScotShotBasketball 6 жыл бұрын
The position of the following joints in space: wrist, elbow and shoulder. If you paused your shot at the moment of releasing the ball, are those three joints in a vertical line? That is vertical alignment.
