A lot of people these days find Noel Deyzel to be Mr. Wholesome Fitness KZbinr (and kudos to him), but Jax you are undoubtedly the OG wholesome fitness KZbinr. Anyone who knows your catalogue knows you’ve practiced and preached the mental health and self care side of fitness the whole time. It’s like you detailed my entire fitness journey with this vid. I’m convinced that to achieve proper health and longevity, anyone involved in fitness must go through a period of this flux you describe; overcoming those tribulations are what builds the grit and resolve to find one’s own happy medium. Thank you for all you do and your willingness to speak on these topics.

@Empty Glass yeah I watched him often during his meteoric rise but have since clicked less. he’s become a content machine and has managed to successfully monetize it. Once content creators reach a certain level they begin to feel manufactured, even if different and well intentioned, by nature of the platform. His vlogs were a nice change of pace

Hey man I just subscribed to you because what you said really resonated with me. I lifted for years and got to an amazing physique literally my dream body and I got injured and couldn’t keep up and then got out of shape….the comments people made and my self esteem and just my overall mental health had suffered immensely and it had to do with that validation. I really need to get to the point where I don’t need that from other people and truly wanna do it for me

Basing self esteem on appearance is a choice. It feels good to be proud of your fitness but pride is a double edged sword. In reality, in Truth, there is no pride in being jacked and no shame in being fat or skinny. It's all just a made up game based on fleeting emotions. However. Everyone kind of "knows" this, but few live it. So cheers to you, Jax, for embodying and communicating this message so well. Fitness is about health and happiness only. Keep it up 👏👏

I just had this happen to me, I went on vacation and went back home with an amazing outlook on life and was ready to get back into the gym after a week then hit with a pretty bad cold for 4 days then got Covid (since it was incubating inside me) and am still coughing for the past month and have regained a little bit of my taste. I've lost so much strength I've never declined in reps regarding my pushups but that havled, the virus has seriously weakened my body. I also lost 7 pounds (not high quality pounds though so I'm regaining that). I'm doing much better now I can't wait to get better, injuries always set us back and take our progress. The biggest takeaway is you can never be too safe and if you fall you can get back up.

It is ridiculous. Being healthy and fit is so important, especially in an era where so much illness is caused by sedentary lifestyle and obesity. But the main way we all judge it is so often just off of aesthetics. People can be very healthy/fit/athletic/badass/strong without having a defined six pack. It sucks how that affects people's mental health, especially those in the public eye. - I'm really glad there are so many guys talking Abt unhealthy expectations/body dysmorphia. You may or may not have the intention of being a positive male role model, but I think you are, and just an overall great example to people in general. Down to earth and working towards improvement in physical, mental, and emotional aspects of life

Great message. You look great! Thank you, Jax, for being a beacon of light for people who've suffered depression and are concerned what other people think. In my opinion, our value doesn't come from people liking us, it comes from God, and He loves us all so much, and a lot of people, despite His love for them, don't like Him so I don't want to be liked by them. I feel this man I’ve been boxing and lifting heavy my whole life and I started a keto diet 4 years ago. I am in great shape but there is so many times that don’t want to do this shit anymore and just relax with the life I’ve built. BUT I’m known everywhere as “the big dude” and my ego craves that because I was a scrawny kid who got picked on so it becomes this weird pressure to never stop even though I seriously just want to take some time to relax and enjoy eating some shit that’s gonna fuck me up or even have some drinks like I used to.

I'm going through fluctuations as well. When I used to work in the very early morning shift at my work, I used the rest of the day to work out, and I used to work out nearly every day. Unfortunately, after an incident with another employee, I went to work in the late afternoon shift, and it destroyed my mental health. I absolutely hated working there, and I neglected my workouts more and more, only doing them two days per week. I'm now working on the early morning to late afternoon shift, and although it is better than the later shift, I still need to get back to my daily workouts as well as focus on my goals again.

I'll admit I have a hard time getting into health/fitness for myself. I have no real thoughts or opinions on my physical appearance on most days other than to think "yep...I am indeed a person". Though there's definitely clothes I'll avoid wearing or cosplays I have absolutely just avoided thinking about because I don't think I could pull them off with my stomach. ^^; As it stands, I think I'll just focus on working on fixing the things that cause me discomfort/pain (working on my back and knees) and just keep working up from there. Generally I just have a hard time wanting to do good things for myself but that's what the therapy is for. ^^; I think this is why you're like the only fitness person I follow. You keep it real and focus not only on the physical side of things but the mental as well and that's absolutely necessary.

Having just recently become a father, I definitely started to pile on the sympathy weight. It doesn't look great, I don't feel great for it, and the saddest part about it is that looking at myself crushes me to the point of being demotivated. I keep pulling at myself to leave the bed and go for a walk, but my mind and body are all burned out. I hate for this to come off the way it sounds, Jax, but seeing the idol you are to me have his lows the way you've had is refreshing. We're human after all - and you kept climbing. That's all it is, then: Just keep climbing. You fall and you get back up. That's life, and at no point should you ever feel weaker for it. The stall isn't what breaks you. It's part of the journey you're on to become you're strongest. Thanks for this video.

I'm not a public figure by any means, but I can 100% relate to my fitness level fluctuating based on my mental health. I only care about fitness for myself, but external factors(academic, family, social life etc) have made me relapse into numerous periods of depression, a cycle that im still trying to break out of. And all throughout, I felt first hand how all my progress and fitness just kept being lost and reset. I'm currently trying to train back up to being able to run 10km straight for the fourth time in a decade. But that's alright, I've done it before, I'll do it again.

I understand completely, I am a strength & conditioning coach (in good shape aesthetically, and well rounded as I train for MMA) I'll have random guys on a football or Lax team who train like body builders and discredit anybody physically smaller than them. (Then when I get some workouts in with them they're shocked by me being faster, more agile, jumping higher etc). TLDR, people in the fitness industry obsess over aesthetics too much rather than being holistic healthy individuals

It took me years to build up any confidence in my body. I used to be so overweight and unhealthy compared to my friends from having asthma as a kid. When I was about 14 I stopped eating for the most part. I lost a TON of weight but could barely run or move without feeling like I was gonna die. By the start of my Junior year I had had enough. I started working out, just a regular bodyweight circuit and some high rep calisthenics. At one point I could do almost 300 crunches, a 4 minute elbow plank, and at least 12 chin ups. I felt on top of the world. After highschool, I let myself go. I've had years of ups and downs since then, and in August of last year I felt like it was time to get back to where i want to be. A lot of people have commented on how much weight I've lost since then, and I've kept track of my progress. I still struggle a lot with myself and my body dysmorphia, but I know it's worth it. It's just part of the journey. Your videos are inspiring as hell my dude. I wouldn't have gotten back into working out if it wasn't for you and the Bioneer fr. Thank you, and I'm excited to see more.

To anyone who might read this and needs it. People that compare you to something usually compare to the social media bod. That bod is an outlier and shouldn’t be compared with. Also kings and queens, trust your ego sometimes. SOMETIMES. Because those that compare you to something and don’t support you, usually don’t do the work themselves and are finding excuses in devaluing you. Do it for you and no else!

I lost more weight and became healthier as soon as I stopped hyper-focusing on going to the gym and consuming X amount of protein a day and instead just started walking more. Nowadays, I average 15 kilometres a day and spend all that walking time listening to audiobooks. My mental health has improved, and I'm always learning new things. Sure, I still have the excess skin of a guy who used to be 60 lbs heavier, but that doesn't bother me.

Well at least you didn't move as drastically as Christian Bell does. But yeah life is actually full of ups and downs and jobs cause a lot of that. Some jobs are very taxed into a person doesn't have much energy to go out and exercise and like they should and then they beat it on themselves because of it. I totally hear that you about the mental aspects of trying to do workouts. Thank you for the advice, to do workouts and try to become the best of myself for myself not anyone else. On a side note too many times I hear on other fitness KZbin stars is that maintaining a low body percentage does increase a person's own mental problems because there's restricting themselves too much. Heck Tristan Lee a bodybuilder who contain a 40% of less than 5% as much as possible made a video about it. He described that he couldn't gain any more games from his exercises because he was too focused on restrictive dieting.

It doesn't matter if your not super fit or super fit at the time ur still the same anime nerd with the fitness and nutrition facts I see on yt.

That's rough. I want to be strong to lift up and swing around my nieces as they get bigger.

My body stores every bit of fat and water retention on my chest and belly/hips. I have to stay close to 12% body fat, eat low carb, and low sodium if I want a chance at not looking fat in a grey t-shirt or polyester. I have to wear completely different outfits when I'm 15-17% body fat. The best thing to do is build lots of muscle and don't lose more than 1-2 lbs of fat a week when cutting. Be very protective of your muscle, don't diet your muscle away. I lost three inches on my arms doing too much fasting, went from a healthy weight at 185lbs down to 165lbs and looked scrawny
