Ex-Metal Drummer here. Was a drummer for a 3 years, before I really got into a Metal Band, and the band... and me too... wanted me to be able to be that fast double bass running (I.E. Lombardo From Slayer). So... while I could match the pace, I couldn't maintain that speed for a full 5mins for a song, much less a 30min-1 hour set... So I did this _Basically..._ I put 10lbs on each leg, for 20lbs total, at the ankles... and then went to work everyday where I was the Fastest and main sandwich maker at a Wendy's. That kept me moving all the time, which is what I think was missing the most from this vid. I was still using all the smaller muscle giving me finer control over my legs, rather then *_WADDLING_* everywhere like he was doing. Within 4 weeks of doing this, my legs were machine guns, sadly the band never really went anywhere and now I have a 13piece Drum kit just collecting dust for over a decade.

Others have said it already, but I'll also add it myself that you'd probably be a LOT better off with something like a weighted vest over weights on your legs, both because of what the trainer noted about knees and hips, but also more generally because what you want/need is greater overall resistance.
@AvoidTheCadaver10 ай бұрын
Absolutely agree. I used to live about 2.5km walk from work so I started wearing a weighted vest and picked the route that had the most inclines and declines and walked it 4 times a week. I got to the point where I had 20kg in my vest and still had 10kg left to go. 30min each way Made for a great work out but by damn did my shoulders ache by the time I got to work or home.
@FallLineJP9 ай бұрын
I’d probably say that the *majority* of added weight should be worn in a vest. I could see a potential benefit of some *small* extra weights on whatever extremities are important in your chosen discipline (legs for running - help increase cadence, arms for martial arts, etc)

For people who don't want to go through the trouble of sourcing a weighted vest, I've been exercising by just filling my backpack with heavy stuff, going on walks, and doing simple strength training exercises like push ups and squats. I recommend using leg weights as a part of your backpack payload because their shape is less awkward than say dumbbells or metal weights which might knock around. I've lost nearly 15 lbs (6kg) in the last month doing this and I can obviously do way more push ups than I could before.

the weight check is the funniest part of this video 😂it's definitely muscle gain. Back in the day, my sister forced me into this weight loss program with her and one of the first things they told us is to not be discouraged by the scale. Muscle weighs more than fat and so you aren't going to see your numbers magically drop since your muscle is just replacing your fat. They said, instead of focusing on weight, you should be focusing on inches. You'll see more progress with a measuring tape than a scale.

Ive heard they can damage joints overtime, this is what happened to my uncle. I prefer weighted vests but to each their own
@devin1922210 ай бұрын
@@Matt-jc2ml I have a simple real world solution that wouldn't do any harm to joints and show maximum benefits of weighted clothing, fat people, your are naturally stronger when you weigh more because you are used to moving more weight, but if you actually exercise, you lose weight if you are doing calisthenics they become easier, because less weight over time. So how to fix this, if you start out real fat, add weight clothing proportionally to your weight loss, so no strength is lost, and it shouldn't harm your joints anymore than being fat would have. So say starting at 300lbs, if you can do a pull up, pushups, run, whatever, as you lose weight, doing all those things now at say 180lbs after a couple years, but with 120lbs of weighted clothing would make you extremely strong and agile, no other training needed. Actually not much strong in this scenario from the start, but a 180lb guy with the strength of a 300lb guy. Also weight could probably be worn all day, since again you already wore it all day as fatty.

I think the most important difference is that in the anime he uses it until he notices improvements with the weight on, you have not noticed any improvement, on the contrary, you were more tired. In the anime he would have gotten tired too, but he would have continued for 2 more months or whatever it took to learn to move with the weights as if they weren't there.... At that point is where you take them off and the universe explodes.

When I was in high school, I started wearing 5lb weights per ankle during the day, and just tossed them in my bag if I wanted to take them off. I eventually started wearing 20 per ankle, wearing them between classes to get the workout on the stairs and walks between the rooms. First few days, were terrible. I eventually got used to it, aaaand.. Forgot I had them on.. So, my dumdum dummyhead went to the arcade after school one day, and having forgot I had them on, decided to Dance Dance Revolution. ..It did not go well. I felt one of my knees pop and give out. Side note: RockLee type weight training is far more effective when ramped up over time, and it's physically impossible to harness that efficiently over 2 weeks / 4 weeks. If you truly wanted the effect of RockLees training, you need to do it linearly. His training is over a course of years. You start small, say 5lbs per leg / wrist and do that for 4 weeks. Then bump it up every month if you feel "normal" . You are literally training you're body for a different environment. I believe it's 28 days(?) to make or break a habit, apply the same mentalities to you're weight training, and you'll improve your results. Where does my stand point come from? I've been on a "RockLee" type exercise regiment and weight training for 3 years. Yes I know this is an older video, but just thought I'd put my two cents in. Thumbs-up emoji

5lbs is probably a bit much for most people to start with. When I did this type of training, I believe I started at 1.5 lbs per leg and added 0.2 to it every two weeks or so till I got up to 10lbs per leg, while maintaining my normal workouts. I did marathons at the time, and over the course of two years the weights did make a noticeable difference in my endurance, but also did put more strain on my knees. I'm certain it contributed to the knee problems I have now.

If you want to lose weight you don’t need exercise, you just need a better diet. Exercising to lose weight is the biggest misconception of the human race. Just like this guy showed in the video, he exercised a lot and gained 6 pounds instead of losing weight. Obese people can quite literally go multiple days in a row without eating ANY solid food, and they will lose weight (just drink water).

Shit, now I gotta look up what's normal to make sure I'm not making it up. Give me a second to make sure I'm not imagining stories, but I did clock in compared to a car at 25 mph, and in shoes that were badly tied. In return for this burst strength, I didn't have the stamina to retie my shoes and do it again, so not without cost. I'm checking a normal time as of this moment... OK, literally the first thing I saw was the average person runs 8.7 mph, clearing the hundred meter dash in 27 seconds. I claim 25 mph top speed, and my best time was 10.4 seconds. The math checks out, I wasn't imagining my teenage prowess. I am now very interested in regaining my fitness, since I'm getting the right treatment for Ankylosing Spondylitis in my spine (Fancy name for a specific arthritis), and haven't felt this good in over 13 years, despite being 32. I might tie it in with efforts to quit smoking, and make it a positive part of my channel. Judging by my first two proper videos, I'm a bit angry and need to show my "self aware and trying to improve" side. I've got 25 pounds of extra fat (my opinion at 205), and could use a solid core, according to my physical therapy. LMFAOOOO I cried from the laughs with the weights on your legs. And especially with the DB dude that his weight dropped down. A tip for you: It's natural that you'd tire your legs like this. It's wise to give them time to restore their stamina, while they build their own muscles and masses. A untrained person would be tired and have sore legs the next day you wear them. It's common. A trained person would wear then and run, but at the limit at where they can hold on. Try going at a gym and see if you can lift anything with your hands. If you hurt your hands, this means that it's your body limit. If you wanted to get to those weights' limit, you'd need to start low until your body gets used to them eventually.

If he can move said leg much faster, that means he packs a lot more power. A real-world example would be Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee kicked so fucking fast that he knocked a 300 lb bag around like a tetherball. He was only around 140 lb, but holy fuck he was fast. The only real reason people have that "power and speed are different things" idea is more for entertainment. But rest assured a faster attack means it packs way more of a punch. Haha. Punch. 'Cause we're talking about attacking. Alternatively, you could increase your mass and pack more power into your hit, but it's a lot harder to move when you do, so speed it is.

The goku weights vs rock lee weights race is a pretty accurate depiction of how full knight's plate mail vs modern marine armor would go in a race
@crazyscarecrow81362 жыл бұрын
Kyle said it best, small muscles aren’t meant for a *sudden* increase in weight. For something like this to work, you would need to work your way up gradually over a longer period of time. Start light and only increase the weight by a small amount when you can train at full efficiency again.
@jaymzOG2 жыл бұрын
You would also probably want weights with more surface area, so all of the extra pounds aren't concentrated directly on a joint (Lee's are basically shin weights, not ankle weights).

Yeah you could easily get tendonitis, bursitis or torn ligaments. Correct form is crucial. Leaning to far forward or back will put ENORMOUS strain on both adductor and hamstring tendons. You DO NOT want adductor tendonitis. You will want to die. You can't sit, lie down, stand still or walk (even sit on the toilet) without being in pain. Slowly does it. The injuries are never worth the saved time by doing exercises quickly. Make sure you know how to correctly squat so your knees are following the correct track. Check that your hips and knees are healthy. Chiropractor or Osteopath.

The concept works with resistance bands. Doing running exercises with resistance bands will make you faster. Weights are usually just too much strain.
resistance bands are just for fat people that are on the internet to much and to lazy to go to the gym and also trust those braindead influencers that want to make some extra cash. also they use them incorrectly 1/2 times and then throw them in a corner to be seen years later

I did the math one time, finding a rough estimate of how much force Rock Lee's kicks would have, by running with an estimate I found online for how much his leg weights weigh based on how much ejcta they kick up when they are dropped. The math came out that, if he's kicking at the fastest kick for fighters irl, his kicks are delivering about 1 gigajoule of energy per kick. I don't have the sources anymore though, so 🤷♂️

I did some 25lb dumbbell runs for 2.5 miles and a double 15 pound dumbbell run for the same distance. Could get the first mile in 9 minutes. It really gets the heart rate and lungs going. Two or three days after the dumbbell run I'd be almost two minutes faster than before I did the dumbbell run. Like 21:20 minutes before and 19:30 after and feeling super light with long strides and not breathing hard. I don't recommend it but for me it was only about 12 or 13 percent of my body weight because I was already 235lbs so didn't think there'd be much skeletal risk in my late 20's.
@jamesputterlik2253 жыл бұрын
The trick with weighted clothing is to acclimate. When you can reliably reach and maintain a similar speed while weighted as you could without the weights prior to the training, its time to increase the weight. Its a gradual process where you maintain the weights presence whenever possible(practical) to allow the body to adapt to the added weight until it is considered normal to the body. Not just while you are active, but during nearly all aspects of your daily life.
@Merahki38632 жыл бұрын
In theory yes, in reality the feeling of weight is just in your head. Your body may be able to manipulate that weight in certain orientations quite effectively, however that doesn't mean your body can adapt and grow from stress in any orientation. Many people already manage to cause injury without extra weight because they place too much stress on their joints and tendons through poor movement mechanics. If you want to try weighted clothing you should first at least have a good foundation. Even for athletes, using weighted clothing in daily life can easily lead them to injury.
