Dive right in there, man, excellent! The “little gear turning underneath there” is called the “Escapement” and it does two things. One, it allows the escapement gear to turn at a precise rate established by the pendulum, and two, returns energy back to the pendulum (gives it a little push) so it continues to swing. Excellent job on the pendulum repair, by the way.

Thanks for this Hermle G-father type-movement video, I am going to repair family mantle clock with Hermle triple chime and your video (albeit pendulum related) really helped. thanks

Killer deal on your clock. Howard Miller makes some of the best clocks in the world. I have a few myself and love them. Your dog is really cute. 🕚🐕

Much better chime. I thought I was hearing a clunker in there. Good eye!

Agree with hoppes9. You need to bend (CAREFULLY) the chime hammer rods so that the hammers all sit about 1/8" away from the chime rods and that they hit them dead on. That will drastically improve the sound of the chime. Right now, they are striking, but somewhat resting on the rod thus preventing it from a sustained sound.

It's funny you mention that, a couple days ago I actually did that as I knew it didn't sound quite right again. Thanks for the help

$15!? WOW you got a good deal. Even if it isn't working, still a great deal for a Howard Miller anyway. Best find I had in the past was paying 50 bucks for a Howard Miller Grandmother, "NOT grandfather" clock that just needed to be cleaned, oiled and adjusted.. Still have it to this day and is one of my favorite clocks out of my entire collection. Not including my collection of watches anyway..

How do you install the suspension spring in the slot? Just ordered one - your video is very easy to understand. I believe our regulator was broken in moving....

I have a Howard Miller wall clock with pendulum, it's key wound. It works fine keeping time but the chimes are are not working as they should. The hammers move very slow and they don't strike the tuning rods. Any thoughts what the problem may be? Thanks

About the pendulum, did you think about filling the empty space on the wood with wood paste or even something like epoxy?

It was in that shape because somebody moved it with the pendulum on and it twisted the alignment on the escape wheel and Verge.

Very nice - A question, While I like my chimes, I do not like them every 1/4 hour. Is there a way to adjust it to chime just every 1/2 hour (Howard Miller GF clock) in any of your videos

Your chimes aren’t ringing really. Like the chimes on my grandmother from 1973. They are a lot deeper. Good videos.
@bborkzilla8 жыл бұрын
The second hammer from the front appears closer to the chime than the others, so it's hitting the chime and not drawing back enough to let it ring properly.

There is no reason to fix the leader to the pendulum. That is not how they attach. You can buy the brass hook that was missing from the pendulum stick from any clock parts supplier. Please don’t do this to your pendulum.

@JustMyClocks6 ай бұрын
why
@CedricKarlFonk8 жыл бұрын
All you had to do was make a brass hook (as it had originally) with a slot the same size of the leader not drill and cut the wood! That way you can unhook the pendulum. The way you did it the pendulum will stay permanently attached and damaged the suspension spring. That is a Westminister wall clock. A timepiece does not strike or chime. Seriously, don't give up your day job.

Well I'm not quite sure what you're referring to, but I have the clock today, a year-and-a-half later it has been working and keeping time very accurately, so shut up.

I'm sure you're a nice guy but watching this is painful. I don't know why someone who seems smart but knows next to nothing about mechanical clocks would waste other people's time posting amateur rubbish that will mislead instead of just using the excellent clock repair/maintenance videos already available on KZbin. There are people in the comments asking you for advice. They shouldn't be.
