Adding a darker note, as a person who grew up with a sociopathic father, learning your parent's triggers and using them to redirect is a valid strategy. And useful, at times. When a teacher just has it in for you, redirecting him to mentally and emotionally disassemble them gets the attention off you.

I mean, what this scene tells us is that despite being more accomplished than Leonard, Leonard's siblings have also failed so far to earn their mother's approval or pride. So either they've grown to care less than Leonard about their mother being unaffectionate, or they are in exactly in the same boat as Leonard. It was a missed oppurtunity to never show us Leonard's siblings when we met everyone else's (actually, we didnt meet Bernadette's siblings either, which is a shame.)

What the guys didn’t realize is that Leonard’s mom doesn’t quite hate him per se. She is just brutally honest as a by product of her dedication to her field. So when she has the opportunity to psycho-analyze someone, she will jump on it, no matter who it is .
@SpaceCase132Ай бұрын
It seems like less of a dedication to her field and more along the lines of obsession with her work to the point that it has become a key element of her personality. You can’t say that she was a very nurturing mother when she basically treated her son like a psychology experiment, avoiding any attempts to show him genuine affection as a child, and otherwise treating him in a way that makes it a miracle that neither he or his siblings wound up becoming genuine psychopaths.

I choose to believe that even though his siblings were more career wise successful than Leonard, that they had miserable lives when compared to Leonard’s and they probably both envied him for that reason. I mean being raised by their mother had to have some lasting effects on them. It just sucks that we never got to see the dynamic of all them together with each other bc it definitely would have been interesting to see.
