Jackie was great on the show for so many years. He was my favorite part of the show- quick witted and made for endless fodder. He’s right. They could have paid him more. However, he absolutely has to regret not taking that deal. He would’ve been there minimally until the end of the first Sirius contract in 2010. 10 years of minimally 500K a year plus all the standup

Hearing these clips after all of these years is so maddening now. Jackie was 100% right in what he was asking for, but for some reason he just couldn't come right out and say how Howard was screwing him over. And at most, in some random interview I heard with Jackie and John and Billie, he gave an example about when Howard first signed the contract for E! to televise the show and suddenly there was more money yet no one but Howard was allowed to make it (that's when Jackie made the camera lights turn off over him whenever they were filming a segment for tv). And when you think about every employee over the years that Howard just used and threw away - KC, Artie, the E! crew themselves - and you see how they have no money while Howard has used their personal stories over the years (after they were tossed away) as content that kept making him money, then you realize how much Jackie was right about the marble analogy. Even Artie criticized Howard on his Quitter podcast (which has since been deleted off the face of the Earth) about how EVERYONE who was involved with the Howard Stern show left a lot of blood on the floor that Howard SHOULD HAVE gifted them all millions as a gift just to be a "thank you" for everything they did. Can you imagine telling a story about your own family or relationships over time, and then Howard owns it and can sell it and gets to make money while you live in squander? F' Howard, F' Robin, F' Gary, and F' everyone that spins this crap to make Howard look innocent in all this.

Howard, Fred and Robin can try to hide it behind a million jokes but Jackie was right. Howard would rather hoard 99% of the money the show made. He could easily pay every single person there 4x what they make and he would still be a millionaire a hundred times over. I can’t imagine being greedy on that level.
@Zwia.
@Zwia. 2 ай бұрын
Why would he do that? You make as much money as possible, when you can. Howard didn't know how long the show would last. To keep the lifestyle he's accustomed too for the rest of his life he needed those contracts. Howard was the show, he spotted and hired the talent, but he probably could have gotten interesting radio out of anyone he hired, that was his talent. Did people like Jackie and Fred really command big bucks? I think the firing of Jackie proved they didn't, the show went on just fine without him. There were a million comics Howard could bring in for less money who were just as funny. It's basic supply and demand. Howard was the only irreplaceable person there, hence the big bucks. Gary would have been the second hardest to replace for Howard, he knew the intricate ways he liked the show producing.

Idc what anyone says, sal had arties number on that argument, to a T. And it tore artie up inside, though he'd never ever even remotely admit it. Anytime artie had a mirror put in front of his face, was shown what a resoL he truly was, that he wasn't Keith Richards or belushi, there's wasn't anything cool or successful about him or his life and god forbid you speak about how none of his work is that great or funny... then artie would get irate and start getting personal and vicious and usually violent. He knew he wasn't that funny, wasn't that great of a stand up and his one shot at the movie biz he totally blew by not being funny too and he didn't like to hear the truth. He was literally a middle in every aspect of his life and then slowly became an opener in life.

Howard always had robin, Fred, and Gary in the palm of his hands. Fred doesn't even want to think about what he would be doing if he and Howard never crossed paths, robin would be continued as a straightlaced news woman instead of doing a hackneyed job at just cutting stories out of the newspaper and passing it off as work and spending the rest of the show laughing and agreeing with Howard, and wouldn't dare rock the boat and ruin his amazing deal going from getting lunch to being the shows producer despite hardly being qualified for the job (Gary seems like the most decent and sane of them all and the one I like the best as a person by the way). The three of them allowed Howard to make all of the money while leaving them the scraps to divvy up between each other because they knew outside of this show they'd be lucky to have a career in show business let alone do anything that could remotely come close to the gig. Jackie and Artie on the other hand had varying levels of success in show business and knew how to get a decent deal for themselves and always had the option to jump into other pursuits if push came to shove. Artie just made his on the road using the show so he stayed relatively happy as far as financially, Jackie was there as the show reached new heights and kept seeing Howard's pay grow exponentially while his and everybody else remained stagnant and seeing as he was on the air as long as Howard was writing his jokes he always felt he should see a rise in pay as well. I don't think he deserved as much as Howard but if all these new markets are being broken and tv shows are becoming hits partially due to you you'd be miffed at the fact your pay stayed the same too. All the while Howard just kept getting richer and richer. He'd tell Jackie not to count his pockets but back in the day when they'd discuss Jackie having contract problems they would start to figure in the fact that he has no kids and if he stopped funding Nancy and her furkhachte hobbies the money would go a lot further AKA counting his pockets. Jackie isn't perfect in this whole thing, he should be been more genuine with his wants and just say he resented the huge pay disparity between Howard and everyone else while calling them all a team, but look at Billy west, he left for greener pastures too! He saw pretty quickly Howard was gonna exploit his talents and not pay him adequately so quietly bounced and made a great career for him self something that the others Jackie included knew they couldn't do. Artie was smart (in the beginning) counted his blessings and made extra money on the roads, Gary stuck with Howard knowing this was the best shot he had in this business and wound up getting paid pretty well in th move to satellite, robin made off like a thief due to her psychopathic undying loyalty to Howard, and Fred seems like he would've put up with anything to be here because him most out of everyone was afraid to imagine life after the show. I understand Jackie and his resentment totally but in hindsight had he just stuck it out and handled the negotiations better until Sirius things would have worked themselves out. I also think he resented Howard because of how he would say he wasn't involved in the contract negotiations (which he knew wasn't true) but would belittle and put Jackie down iterating how easily replaceable he was and should take whatever he was being offered rather than helping out or staying neutral like he claimed to be.

What on earth are you rambling on about? You even said it yourself, Robin and Fred would be lucky to have a career in radio if it wasn't for Howard, and his "scraps" as you call them, are millions of dollars. Where on earth would Fred or Robin make millions? How much did Artie and Jackie make before and after the show? What about JD, Jason or Will? And what show is Gary producing other than Stern? You think they'd have houses in Greenwich, Manhattan and down the shore of it wasn't for Howard? It's entertainment to us, but it's a job to them, and I get that Howard is one of the cheapest guys in the world, but without him, all these guys other than Billy West we wouldn't even know about. Howard owes them a lot, but the reason they're so loyal is cause they wouldn't have the career or life they have without the Golden Jew.

@@dustinsmith5624 theres a difference between being underpaid and not making money. He was making half a million in the 80s which is insanely rich but he got greedy and thought he could get more. In 2001 he was negotiating for 1 mil which is a lot of money. Howard is greedy for sure but jackie was never broke when working for him. Jackie felt he should be making just as much as howard which is moronic. You dont become the manager of a mcdonalds restaurant and demand a salary based off what the ceo of mcdonalds makes. Artie was accidentally mailed Garys paycheck and Artie said that Gary was making a lot more money than him. Gary even thought that Artie felt he was overpaid. Iirc, Artie was making almost 800k a year so... Gary is certainly not underpaid. Keep in mind that Artie worked 4 hours a day from monday - thursday to eat, sleep and tell jokes in the studio. You never hear Gary, Artie, Fred, Robin, etc complaining about their paycheck just because Howard makes more than them. I dont base my salary off my boss' salary. I dont think im underpaid because my boss makes a lot more money than I do. Robin put it nicely "Jackie, you hopped onto the train, you didnt create the train" as a reason for his "low" salary. I think the people that are justified are the people Howard took advantage of and had them working for free like Grillo. Or the people that got fired over the air like the tv and news crew. I do feel outrage on their behalf but definitely not for Jackie.
@uggggggghhhhh

@@dustinsmith5624 My longer reply got deleted but Jackie was never underpaid. In the 90s he was making at least half a million per year. In 2001 he was negotiating to get 1M but the issue was that he was constantly comparing his paycheck with Howards. Like, he saw himself as his equal. Robin put it like this: "Jackie, you hopped onto a train. You didnt start, create or conduct it" Meaning that Jackie went in when they were already successful. Howard, Robin and Fred had put in all the work by then so they resented Jackie for demanding something they didn't think he deserved and for being a diva. He would request the books, he wanted to see how much the show was getting in revenue and how much Howard was making. If Howard made more money, he felt he should get a percentage of that but you dont become a manager at a huge chain store and request a salary based off the salary of the CEO or the revenue of the chain. Basically, he was never poor or anything. He just got greedy. Artie accidentally saw Garys check and said Gary was making a lot more than him (artie was making at least 800k).. Gary was never like "Howard is making a lot of money this year so I should get some of that!!" and neither did anyone else. The ones I do feel outrage for are the people that worked there for free for years like Grillo. Howard definitely took advantage of him. At times, Howard came off almost psychopathic like, Benjy at one point couldnt even afford housing when he started. He would literally bathe at a gym and eat peoples leftovers. I think thats ridiculous considering the success of the show.

@@IAEMThatIAEM That's just one side of it. Obviously Tom and Mel were corporate tools who were always going to pay the absolute lowest wage they could get away with. Stern could've stood up and demanded that the people who make him entertaining get paid a decent wage - but he didn't, because he's a narcissistic pig who'd rather think it's all because of him and everybody else is just riding his coattails. Meanwhile any Stern employee could've left at any time to go work for a company that actually valued them - but they didn't, because they're servile beta stooges who can't believe they're working for this scumbag that they're dumb enough to idolize. So there's always been this uneasy, resentful, bitter relationship where everybody but Howard and Robin know they're being exploited, yet at the same time they get "opportunities," but if they take advantage of any of them Howard has a pissy little bitch fit and rails them for it.
