Just cuz the song is probably about him doesn't mean all the individual lyrics are. In the creative process, producers are professional songwriters will assist and change things. They obviously wanted something more dramatic so the lyrics are probably embellished.

If you understand the definition of the intentional word choice she used-- "recriminate" -- you will see that she did not.
@CERTAIND00M
@CERTAIND00M 2 жыл бұрын
@@RachMonPhoebs "Recriminate" basically means to make accusations against someone in an effort to discredit their claims about you, right? I took it to mean she didn't want people to know who it was because then the song would seem like an attempt at recrimination ("Does she know that you told me you'd hold me until you died[...]", etc.) That would make the song seem petty when it's real intention (as with most great art) was personal catharsis. But when she said "him", she gestured at Howard, who had just said he believed it was Dave. That sounds a whole lot like accidental confirmation to me.

@Pure Blood Ad hominem--always a sign of someone confident in their own reasoning. /s
@francesca4346
@francesca4346 2 жыл бұрын
@Pure Blood Recriminate means to make counter-accusations. If you listen to the song, you very well know it was written with the intention of indicting someone for their misgivings in the relationship, so her word choice was very careful and apt here. If you know her, she's really composed and upfront, and the fact she first lamented the idea of being mysterious for no reason gives credence to the idea that she would be direct if it was about Dave. Being that the subject was not Dave specifically, but rather that they had dated around the time that she wrote that song, her line about him being recriminated, to me, sounds a whole lot more like: "I wrote it around the time we were intimate, but my intention was not to make it about him." Totally different.
