How dare those millenials be rude to such a true artist who inspired a lot of people with what they went through? They are always on their mobile and they can't google her? 😠

Strange in an age where access to information is available in a second that “who is Alanis.....” even got typed. That question could’ve been typed into google and would’ve been more effective than typing that into the unanswered vacuum of social media. I was managed to know who acts way before my time were in the 90s even ones I didn’t like . Perhaps acting defiantly ignorant and only of the moment wasn’t as much of a badge of honour back then. Dunno?

I remember one of my local rock stations back in the day playing a completely uncensored version of "You Oughtta Know." And I don't know which Alanis song might have made her want to purchase the album, but I remembered advising my very straitlaced sister that she shouldn't buy a copy of Jagged Little Pill because she would find some of the language offensive - particularly the line "are you thinking of me when you fuck her?"

As a kid (born in '62), Top 40 radio exposed me to music from before my time. Every day, I passively absorbed older music with no effort needed on my part. My kids (born in '98 and '01) have had a vastly different experience without radio. Today's kids must actively seek out older stuff. Once they show an interest in a certain genre or era, streaming music sites start recommending more of the same. Good or bad, it's just really different.
@ahhwe-any7434
@ahhwe-any7434 5 жыл бұрын
It's not like older ppl always know WTH they're talking about when it comes to music either. No I'm not super sensitive to the term millennial. I just know I'm the old one. So if I meet that bracket, cusp thing, I just do. As a 36 yr old, just facts. Anyways, the truth about fans...: If you're such a fan of ____, name a song other than hit #1, hit number 2. Me: oh easy, I know even more hits you forgot to mention 😁. Wouldn't consider myself the president of anybody's fan club but whatever. Other fans: blah, blah hate, made up sh you know they're pulling out their asses. As a true open to alotta genres music listener: do you even know what you're talking about? Bc as a non president of anybody's fan club even I know you're b.shitting. that you just wanna hate on something. Simply for the sake of hating on someone. So many ppl lie, argue opinions, & it's really insulting. In general. When I listen to sh tho., I really listen to sh... I grew up in the Midwest. There was all kinds of radio stations. I'd give that credit for my exploration & curiousity. Due to locations, I'm pretty sure exposures vary. But yeah. I guess ppl now go to the i.net more seeking music. Or Sirius or whatever. Prob just depends on the person & what they do in their daily lives 🤔🤷

I always wonder about teens not knowing music from only 20-30 years ago. When I was a teen I knew stuff from that far back and then some, when the internet was just in its infancy and I didn't have the advantage of youtube or spotify etc. It's willful ignorance to not branch out and listen beyond "today's" stuff and they're missing out on real music by doing that. Like, how do you get to the age of 16 without ever hearing Bohemian Rhapsody? It's so incredibly sad what's become of music. It's soulless, vapid, computer generated garbage. A scientific study even proved it, and that's what happens when you take the humanity and art out of the process. You get teenagers thanking Kanye West for giving that Paul McCartney guy some exposure (honestly, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry)!

I listened both 90s and 60s music when I was young and more , there are still kids that recognize Kurt Cobain was a genius and they are not of his generation. I was a teenager when Alanis came out with the Jagged Little Pill and Björk was revolutionizing music along with so many talented artists. I loved so many I can't even count them. Currently I love Billie Eilish and Bishop Briggs and I discover new talented musicians every day. Good music is good music, period. I'm tired of hearing people of any age saying something sucks because it is not of their era. Should we say that about Beethoven or Chopin, because they died so long ago? yeah, I didn't think so...

Alanis like me born in 1974. She's carrying the torch for GEN X. She started out doing kids TV with YOU CANT DO THAT ON TELEVISION, a Canadian sketch variety show in the 80s, taped in Ottawa. Fun Fact: The song "Ironic" got a considerable about of BS due to the fact that none of the "ironic" situations in the song are actually ironic. Truth is that Alannis knew that the entire time that she was misusing the word, and that misuse is exactly what makes the song ironic. She was misusing the word irony, in a song about irony. THAT is ironic. One of those times when someone intelligent made a joke...and nobody got it.

She got weird after Jagged Little Pill... saw her in concert when I was like 13 at Giants stadium after the album following JLP seems like she’d went to India to “find herself” and was taking herself too seriously almost like a Demi God(ess). On a high note a less known (esp at the time) Garbage opened for her which was awesome, Shirley Mansons performance put Morisette to shame.

I was born in 1999 and didn't get my first glimpse of Alanis until freshman year of high school in 2014 in english class during a lesson on irony. From then on her music has helped me a lot, her music just makes you feel like you're alive when you're going through the worst. ❤
