Howard is one of the few people Billy really opens up to. I listen to a lot of his interviews and always love Stern because they get into really great stuff. That's just Billy's recollection of how things went down. It seems it is in Billy's nature to complain, could be his main driving force to create. Anyways it's apparent he thinks way to much.

The pain and abuse a kid has to endure will usually last their entire life and continually remind them of how much of a failure they are and that’s what Billy still feels today even after all his success. This reminds me of something. There was a good documentary concerning this called Heckler. It was about successful stand up comedians admitting that some of the over the top criticism from some critics (and I mean the super vile criticism that resembled a personal attack rather than constructive criticism) really did affect them a lot in some cases. We're all human and we all have feelings.

So many artists go through this same thing. Sara Bareilles wanted to write more meaningful things too, but her record label tried to strong-arm her into writing a love song. Her response was to write "love song" which is about resisting those pressures and then that song became her biggest hit. It's all about the money.
