The front right duals of our combine dropped into a sinkhole on our terrace, the hole was deeper than the tires since the frame of the combine and header bottomed out . We had to bring in a backhoe to dig the tires out then help pull the combine!! Great video of the harvest

Ryan you do make better videos when you don't have to post every day. Using the drone through out video gives a much better presentation of your work on the farm. Lets just say that you are getting better at what you do on the videos. I enjoy what you post and thanks for taking the time to do the videos for us to watch.

Very interesting to see what happens from the top of the bin, lining up the auger. I love heights, so I’d love to do that part if I farmed. And yeah, outstanding aerial footage during harvest-perfect lighting as the sun set, and fitting music.

Great Video Ryan... Will the corn dry down to 15 with that wind?
@RGCTed7 жыл бұрын
Great Video. Just wondering how well the spreader works we have multiple 30ft MFS Silos/Bins in New Zealand. We usally shovel them out by hand at the end of the day for even drying. We have known about the spreaders but were worried they might be a waste of time and we would have to still shovel it out anyway. We do alot of Ryegrass and Small Seed Crops. Thanks

Yep that's the main thing-- keeping the combine moving! So long as you can do that, you're doing all right. We still have a *slight* bottleneck in corn running a 9600 Deere with an 8 row head, a Killbros grain cart, and one semi. Fortunately it's only about 5-6 miles into town to the elevator and they usually manage to unload me very quickly. I run both the semi AND the grain cart most of the time, switching back and forth between them (which makes for a LONG day!) but at most my BIL says he has to shut down and wait on me for about fifteen minutes to get back with the semi... he can unload from the combine directly into the hopper bottom while I get the cart and then unload it into the hopper bottom while he goes back to picking, and then take one more dump off the combine and run it into the hopper bottom, stage the tractor and cart near where he's picking (so he doesn't have so far to run to dump) and then tarp the load and hit the road, and he'll have the cart and combine brimming full when I return with the empty semi... then we wash-rinse-repeat... LOL:) I admit I was kinda worried when he sold the tandem grain truck I had been running, but it only held 600 bushels fully loaded versus 1,000 in the steel hopper bottom semi, and the insurance/tags/diesel costs were about the same. Course the first year he had the semi, I ended up finishing up corn harvest hauling ALL the corn on the tandem because the trailer needed some work on the frame. I didn't even get out of the truck-- just shuttled back and forth between the fields and elevators... With ONLY the semi he's got no fallback in the event of a breakdown, except I guess gravity boxes and the tractor or pickup or both... or the nephew's semi... LOL:) BUT, they're pretty good about helping each other... We hauled a few loads for them this year. Sounds like you have a good system working. Hope it stays that way. Later! OL J R :)

Could the EZ Trail grain wagon handle slightly higher side extensions, so that you can empty the Brent grain cart completely every time?
@goodmoaningvietnam14397 жыл бұрын
Where we had long tractor runs back to the farm we used an extra trailer that the combine could do a stationery discharge into. All the trailers and tractors were fitted with auto hitches, so it was just a 2 min job to swap a loaded trailer for a an empty one. The tractors returning empty would load on the move. This method kept the combine cutting longer with out delays.

Hey Ryan! It's interesting to me listening to you explain the reason these sinkholes show up there. I'm used to Karst type topography, the kind you'd find around cave areas, such as Mammoth Cave in KY, but I'm not as familiar with the kind you are having. Do you know how deep the old lead mines were in your area? Where I grew up in central IL, we also had old coal mines under our farms, that were disused since the 1940's or so. I know they were fairly deep however. Just curious.

Just a question is it legal for you to run double grain wagons behind a tractor in your area. Reason I ask is I farmed with my uncle when I was in school we ran one small 50s international grain truck with a wagon and 4 sets of double wagons. This was in the 90s a lot has changed with farms in my area since then and I enjoy seeing the different ways other farms do things. No right or wrong just interesting
@merlinonline674 жыл бұрын
I've seen sinkholes open up in a wheatfield after a combine has gone over, size of a tractor and over 50 feet deep! Happens a lot in the UK in areas where there is chalk, heavy rain gets to run through cracks in the surface and then dissolved the chalk underground creating caverns, when you get a heavy vehicle run over the top it causes the cavern to collapse

Hey Ryan it Taylor from Iowa and have couple ideas you could use the John Deere 500 grain cart for a holding bin in the field and then Travis can unload it in to the wagon or use the other grain cart to drive to field and to farm tell me if can use this idea or why you can not do that and happy farming :)

Do you have lime stone in areas that cause sink holes?
@jameswhetstone81117 жыл бұрын
I hope the next time I see you on top of a grain bin, you will have a safety line and good harness. I’ve worked in high places with wind and rain. I can tell you it only takes a small gust of wind or a swinging load to cause a catastrophic loss. In your case a big family loss. Stay safe young man. As to sink holes, a good used track excavator would be useful for stabilizing those sink holes and for a great many other projects on a farm. Great for brush and pasture clean up.
@retracyrb7 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on the safety line and good harness and he could use it for more education in farming

James Whetstone Yes .... Losing Ryan would mean a great loss to people world wide ..... Ryan .... PLEASE take as many safety steps you can ..... And if you want to drown out the wind noise take me up with you ...... My screaming will obliterate all of it ...... ROFL! Stay safe Mate ..... Please ? BTW .... Tracked excavators seem to be worth their weight in gold .... From what I've seen people do with them on the Tube ......

Mike Armstrong Well now, our family has become very fond of these young fellows and their families. They recently lost a Sloan representative friend in an early morning crash most likely thinking nothing would of could happen to them. The fellow in the crash crossed to centerline into the path of a Peterbuilt hauling grain. Things happen so quick. Thank you for supporting the idea of safety. An old uncle told me fortyfive years ago when I bought my first tractor trailer, “Slow down, Stay to the Right and pay attention”. That applies to all of us, right?

It would seem that the size of the gravity wagon is, as we would say in chemistry class back in the day, the Rate Limiting Step. At least you upgraded that for the current harvest from what it was. The grain auger might be a close second, at least as far as its height is concerned.
@whataguy70325 жыл бұрын
My Dad was a safety inspector on the C&O Railroad. If he had seen you coming down that slanted ladder on the grain bin you would have been written up! ALWAYS come down a ladder facing the bin, just like you would when you climb it. If you don't and catch your heel on a rung you will do a "header" off of the bin. Please be safe!
