Today they will show you how they make Traditional Bows (Hunting Bows)!
A composite bow is a bow made from disparate materials laminated together, usually applied under tension. Different materials are used in order to take advantage of the properties of each material.
This article describes mainly the traditional Asiatic composite bow, which normally uses horn on the belly and sinew on the back of a wooden core. Sinew and horn will store more energy than wood for the same length of bow. The strength can be made similar to that of all-wood bows, with similar draw-length and therefore a similar or greater amount of energy delivered to the arrow from a much shorter bow. Some Mongolian composite bows are known to have been able to produce a draw weight of nearly 160 lb.

I think the best deal out there right now is a two rivers longbow. you can find him on ebay most of the time, I think he uses ebay to sell all his bows, anyway he makes long bows and sells them for around 225-280 dollars and everyone in his comments page says his bows rock. I noticed he was in the pages of Primitive Archer for his bow making and quality of work. I am saving up some money and plan on having him make my next bow. I think his bows will be worth a lot more in the near future. Getone

yes replacing fiber glass with animal sinew and modern glue with tree resin, most evergreens/ pines work. mix with a little finely powdered charcoal as an added binding agent, also mix in dried hoarse or deer droppings, or any dropping high in fibrous plant material. droppings add a structural property to the glue. oh and you wont be laminating sinew between the staves, it will run the length of the back except for the nock.

with a compound bow you tighten the limb nuts. on any other bow the draw weight is set. you can adjust it by tillering the bow to a higher draw weight as is discussed in ''the bowyers bible''

Question: what is the form tool he is using for the notches? I can't find it anywhere. The metal thing he puts on the bows as he saws a notch for the string. I just flagged an asston of comments that were nothing but hate speech and religious debate. It's amazing there is anything left. Lets try to stay on topic people.

@ROFLpwnedvideos i see what you're saying. i like to think of it as Modern Traditional rather than traditional. Primitive traditional to me is different, sinew, hide glue, fish air bladder glue, horn on the belly etc. Traditional = no sights cables pulleys or metal on the bow.

because there are 3 main categories of bows, compound, traditional, and primitive, Compound, modern bows with the circles at the end and the pulleys, Primitive are wooden simple robin hood bows, now traditional bows are a remake of the primitive, they follow the same principles but with modern technology added to it like fiber glass.

dude compared with modern compounds made from polymers or even modern target recurves these are pretty trad. it's what they were using in the 50's so that's traditional enough for me. selfbows (bows made from one piece of wood) are harder to get consistent with and get enough power without having a high draw weight .
