HOWTO Install Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L RGB on Socket 1151 and 2066

At the moment I'm currently working on a Franken PC build but the only thing I didn't have was a CPU cooler since we have used every one of them on other machines.

Yeah agreed. Hundreds of people querying esp. this cooler paired with the Gigabyte B450 Elite mobo. When I connect the splitter to a free header (sysfan 2 on said mobo) and connect the RGB remote bit with the two little arrows on each, MISALIGNED, it lights up blue, although the remote is null and void, doesn't affect anything when buttons are pressed. When I ALIGN them correctly, arrow to arrow, then i have no lighting. Have no clue where to troubleshoot this issue. Was thinking of plugging the splitter header onto the LED_CPU connector on the mobo, but I'm not sure where the 12v pin is on the cable. I know on the mobo it's the first pin from the bottom. Don't even know if it would make a difference, especially since Gear Seekers said "any available header". Soooo much hours spent...not enough videos/detail around the B450 Elite mobo and this particular cooler.

The manual can be hard to understand so I get your frustration. The way I have mine hooked up is like this. The two radiator fans are hooked up to the cpu_fan header via the two way splitter. The pump is hooked up to my pump_fan header. Even though the pump_fan header has 4 pins, similar to all the other fan headers in motherboards the three pin pump plug will plug into it so if you don't have a header labeled as pump or aio you can use a free fan header on your motherboard. Just make sure to go to your bios and whatever header the pump is plugged into change the setting from PWM to DC. The pump runs at 100% constant 12V and the radiator fans ramp up and down as demanded by the cpu temp. It's how mine's hooked up and it works great. As far as the RGB goes I'm not using that little controller it comes with but have instead hooked it up to the RGB header in my motherboard so my RAM, Motherboard, GPU and AIO RGB is synced to the RGB software of my motherboard.

I hope your response Helps others in the future. it seems like theres really no detailed explanation out there when it got to this point. I was afraid of ruining the MB if end up connecting the wrong fans to the wrong pin. i conclusion, it seems like you can never go wrong in hooking up the wrong fans to either pins. just like you mentioned, as long as you go into MB fan settings and reconfigure the each fans. thanks again! stay safe

u can get an adapter for a couple of bucks on Amazon or u can return the cooler and look for one that supports the motherboard

If your mainboard has RGB light you can plug your RGB splitter to the RGB socket on the mainboard directly. But if your mainboard doesn't have RGB lightning, you have to plug that controller to the power supply(molex) then plug the splitter to the controller in order to use the RGB function.

Can someone help me i have this same cooler but the instructions that come with it don't tell me anything about the LGA 1151 socket although it says on the box it supports that socket.the black plastic bracket what clips I'm I supposed to use in the video you used the 1150x slot is this the same for the 1151 socket.

I installed one of these last night, I mainly watched this video because I wasn't sure if I pointed the fans in the right direction. I assume he set the fans to pull, since they're in the front? This is the first time I've messed with my PC's fans in almost 8 years. I'm trying to make sure my cooler is set up correctly before I start pushing my old 2500k.

sup dude, its an aio (all in one) so the only chances of this messing up is if you puncture the radiator, the hoses, or just straight up abuse it to try to get it to leak. these ones are a lot safer than "traditional" water cooling

Hello, I want to ask if it's possible to put the fans on the other side of the radiator. I have a box that can have 3 RGB fans in the front, but at the front is the only place where I can put the radiator too. So I want to put first the fans and then the radiator but is that possible with this one? I'm not sure if I explained it right.

Im curious as well. Doesnt putting the fans at the behind (inside) the radiator causes hot air to be blown into the computer? I've seen other people with the same AIO install the fans in the front of the radiator so that it can suck in cool air to lower the temp of the radiator.

I have a 3-pin clip connector for my MasterLiquid 360R coming off the pump, along with the RGB cable. The only place it proper fits an ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero motherboard seems to require a stretch all the way across the motherboard (diagonally) to the 3A W_PUMP 3-pin header. The 3A header seems to make sense to run the bigger pump. Is this correct?

No. These are analogue RGB connectors. If you have a non addressable header then it will work perfectly. On the addressable one it wont work at all.

Why is it that people differ between push and pull configurations? I'm getting good temps with the fans installed the other way around, but I see people do this differently every other video I watch. I just spent hours rebuilding my pc, and then doing it over a couple of times cause I was so unsure. No worrying temps under load with my build. It is spaceous with two massive fans in the front pulling in cold air, the two fans on the radiator pulling cold air through that, and one exhaust in the back. I keep wondering if I really have to start picking things apart - AGAIN. xD

Pretty sure you have installed the fans the wrong way round on the cooler.. In that configuration the fans will be pulling air, not pushing. It's even pictured on the box the other way round.

My lga1151 uses the outer 3 notches, not the middle, FYI. For some reason I remembered watching this video weeks ago while I waited for this cooler to come in so I was prepared once it got here, but when it did I couldn't understand why it wouldn't go through the holes, because I was SURE you said the middle notches. So maybe it's my Mobo? Idk. I'm using an asus prime z390a Mobo if that makes a difference, but I definitely have to use the outer notches and not the middle for the screws to fit through the mobo holes.

If you were installing the rad on top the fans go the other way. You want to pull air in through the radiator to cool the CPU if mounted on the front. We've tested this around 400 times over the last 10 years. This is more thermally efficient. Test it for yourself you will notice big differences.

Are the fans upside down? The picture of it on the NewEgg site shows the logo facing the radiator with the LED on the inside. You have it with the logo facing the inside of the case.

I tried that but that lights was not coming on at all for the fans, nor did I see it in Aura Sync. How does it get power then if it is not using the molex connector? I feel like I might be missing something. Thanks for the quick response! :)

The fans and cooler won't detect in Aura you'll just need to assign that header the correct colours. The RGB header on your board supplies 12V anything connected to it. Make sure your connector is plugged in the right way. There might be a software setting in Aura for it.

Gear Seekers this literally just saved my sanity. It is a great radiator / fan system and cools really well, but ASUS Aura and the lights don’t like each other (tried calibration in Aura....ugh). I have the TUF Gaming board too. Been trying to work out what the lighting problem is, and you’ve just given the answer. Aura can’t pick up the information - you just have to pluck the right colour. I’m happier now.

Recently built a pC using the Asus Maximus ROG code and i7 8086k and set up the cooler master but CPU is hitting 89deg on start up.. everything starts up and is working yet the temp is at 89deg any idea how to fix this ?

If your fans are mounted upside down and running above 90% speed they will make a weird sound. I had that when I installed this cooler on my TR system.

Just plug the rgb into your motherboard and download the rgb fusion app off the gigabyte website. That way your rgb will all match across the motherboard and fans etc also.

The way to use molex is to have the same molex cables for 10 years, so they're properly worn in :)

So I have a molex cable to connect to the psu and the rgb controller, i try to plug in the female 4 pin connector onto the rgb header and my pc wont turn on and im sure the cable doesn’t fit the header. Is there another adapter to connect to fit the header? The cooler works great just cant get the rgb going.

Very good video :) But I can't change the RGB color with my motherboard. I have a Aorus Gaming 3 z370, and the Masterliquid is compatible with RGB Fusion (Gigabyte/Aorus). But my motherboard don't detect it. I d'ont want to open my case when I want to change the color :/ Any one have a solution ?

i have a question so i have this aio cooler but it won’t light up in same color i have an asus b450 plus, ryzen 5 2600x, cooler master mw lite 600w 230v and won’t react to aura sync and when i use the controller it changes colors but they can’t stay the same ex. now one fan is purple one is green, can someone help?

usually they go inside of the case so they are pulling in cool air through the radiator. Also these fans are RGB so you would want to show your cool new RGB fans in your case.
