Practically perfect review! A little monotone, but I love that you hit so many helpful and important points without a lot of unnecessary or repetitious dialogue. I appreciate that you showed where you got it, what the price was when you shopped for it (so we can compare if it's still a good value), why you chose it over other products, the setup, actual use cases for the equipment, good and bad ad-ons, pros and cons, etc. Clear, concise, and one of the most helpful reviews I've seen on youtube! I'll be buying today. Thanks!

I bought the HulkFit and I love it, but I wish I had seen this before I had purchased it. The 2.5" keeps me from buying what fits most power racks. I purchased the same J Hooks that you have but they don't fit so I'm going to have to send them back and get the 2"x3" with the adjustable knob. This is a great review. Really appreciate the thoroughness of the review. I have a similar rack in my basement. The only thing to add for anyone looking for a rack like this and this is related to his comment about the safety bars when benching. Some racks have the hole spacing closer together allowing for more precise placement of the safety catches. Just something to keep in mind.

I'll def consider it! I just saw your other video of the SYL Fitness Gym Cable Pulley System. Is the Fitness Reality Lat Pulldown Kit worth the extra cost? The difference in price is pretty huge $25 vs $250. @@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 5 ай бұрын
@@AskJeeves49 for me personally, it was absolutely worth it. The SYL Fitness is a functional workout overall, but there is a lot of setup time and it definitely has its limitations. There is no low pull position. It’s the $25 option for a reason. The Fitness Reality kit is light years better. It also makes the cage more stable. I did a full review video on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKLRh3Whr6acnM0 If you plan to invest more money into the home gym, I would put this on the short list.

Great review, I watched so many reviews on these racks waiting patiently for my Ethos’s rack, which finally came about a month ago, debated between a Rogue or a Ethos rack and went with the Ethos’s so I didn’t have to pay for shipping, I really wanted something heavier than most of the less expensive racks to attach a TRX strap to, I feel very confident the Ethos rack isn’t going to tip over with my weight pulling on this thing. Very happy with my purchase other than it being 3x3 uprights, finding additional attachments are very hard or maybe not even possible.

Nice. I’ve looked at the Ethos rack in person at Dick’s Sporting Goods. It is very nice. Definitely a step up. I have come across several 3x3 j hooks while shopping for 2x2 j hooks for myself. Not sure about other types of attachments though.

I am really curious to see how this matched up with the REP Fitness PR1100
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
amzn.to/3nFH6RE They do look similar. However, the PR1100 does not appear to have a standard tube size (the holes look larger than 1”) so accessories are an issue, the rear lower support is on the floor (could interfere with bench legs), and it costs more. But, I do prefer the j cup design. Between the two, I would personally definitely select the 810XLT. The standard tube size (2”x2” with 1” hole) is a big advantage. I currently have accessories from 5 different manufacturers. Lots of options!

Nice video. I think you have helped convince me in purchasing the cage. Do you have recommendation for bar and plate sets? Thanks!
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you found it helpful! I personally own the Fitness Gear 300 lb set from Dicks Sporting Goods, which includes 300 lbs of plates and an Olympic barbell. I selected this based on acceptable quality (I’m not buying cheap junk) and “best bang for the buck.” A review video is below. I plan to do a 1 year update video on this set next month, but it has held up great and I have no regrets. The cost has increased since the review (was $300, now $400) but I think it is probably still the best value. If cost is not a major driver for you, it’s worth looking around. A drawback of the fitness gear set is that the 45 lb plates are slightly smaller in diameter than standard 45 lb plates, so it throws off deadlifts by 1/2 inch. Also, if you are lifting on a concrete floor (garage) you will want rubber mats under the plates, or rubber/bumper plates for deadlifts. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJfHko2wlK6qhc0

The purpose of squatting outside the cage is to make it easier to finish your last rep because if you don't you might severely injure yourself.
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
I think people squat outside the cage because it looks better in pictures and videos (no obstructions). Maybe it is a mental boost to push harder, knowing there is no fail safe. But squatting outside the cage to “finish your last rep without severely injuring yourself” is not something that I recommend.

The holes are spaced 3" apart on this guy. I was curious if you had any issues with bench press height and safety pins with the holes being 3" apart. This is one of the things I'm debating right now. Go with this one or get a cage with 2" hole spacings. The downside is all the 2" spacing cages I've found are $400+, so this fitness reality cage is definitely cheaper. Just not sure if the hole spacing feels limiting. You're 6'1 and I'm 6'0" so we're close in height. Thanks!

Glad you found it helpful! I am using a 7 foot bar. It appears that a 6 foot bar should just barely work. The outside dimension of the rack is 45” and the shaft length on the 6 foot bar that I looked up as a reference is 45.75”. That is 0.75” of clearance. I personally would not be comfortable with that, but technically it should work. Definitely double check the shaft length on your specific 6 ft bar! It likely varies between manufacturers.

Have you done any weighted pull ups or ring dips from the pull up bar? Do you know the capacity of the bar?
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
The cage is advertised with an 800 lb weight capacity. I have done weighted pull-ups with 35 lbs. I weigh 200 lbs (in the morning, fasted), so 210 with clothes and food. So personally, I load the pull-up bar with 245 lbs. No issues at all. As a mechanical engineer, I think it could hold 2,000 lbs easy. I may run the numbers later for fun.

@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial I got the rack now and it's pretty solid. The pull-up bar is definitely capable of heavy weight. Due to some spacing issues I'm considering removing the bottom stabilizing bar. How much would this effect the overall sturdiness of the rack? Some half racks have a high capacity and this rack still has the upper stabilizer and the pull up bar holding it in place. Thanks again for the video it was definitely a factor in my decision.
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
@@chuloCFA Awesome, congratulations on your purchase! In regard to removing the bottom crossmember, I would be hesitant. It provides the spacing between the vertical posts, and also provides structural rigidity for side to side forces. Removing it will not reduce the weight capacity. The vertical square tubes bear all of the weight. I would say to remove the lower crossmember and try it. See how rigid it feels, and if it is acceptable. If it is questionable, I would relocate the bar up or down a little by drilling some new clearance holes through the vertical square tubes for the mounting bolts.

Great video, what floor mat would you recommend to place below the cage?
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
I am personally using some 1/4” thick floor mat that I got a great deal on. It does the job, but it’s thin and can bubble up. I would definitely recommend something thicker. I have had a couple people recommend “horse stall mats” from Tractor Supply Company as a great lower cost alternative to gym mats. Something to look into.

Those are the hooks that come with the cage. I personally have not seen them available independently. You can try contacting Fitness Realty customer service, but Fitness Reality was recently sold, and their customer service seems to be less than desirable. I contacted them and never got a response. Maybe try Facebook Marketplace. Another option is different J-Hooks. If you’re actually using these to rack a barbell, they are not ideal and there are way better alternatives. Good luck! I hope you find them!

@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Thank you for responding. The reason I need these are because of the "peg" configuration. I just bought a Titan SSB and the space between the cambers is 48". My Rack is 49 inches and the J-Hooks that came with it extend all the way to the edge. I believe these "pegs" will allow the SSB to sit in the rack, as they reduce the width a little. I have looked everywhere that the Fitness Reality rack is sold, but these hooks don't appear available; however. I believe I can find a suitable alternative. Thanks again!!!

Good question! Yes, the pull-up bar can be mounted upside down. I positioned the rack so it is centered between floor joist. So if my head went to high, it would go in between joists, giving some additional height room. So, that could be an option. For a sense of scale in the video, the bottom of my floor joists are 95 inches high.
