Good video and I'm a repair tech. When I've got a bigger repair thay I haven't done before or in a while and it's waiting for me the next morning I like to watch videos like this with my after work beer just to get a visual reminder. Makes the job go so much faster for me. Good job not missing info but having a quick and efficient video as well!

Gread video but you should mention about draining the coolant from the engine block before removing the water pump. Even when I did, about one cup of coolant came out when the pump was removed. The engine drain plug is relatively easy to reach. I had some difficulty in removing the two bolts for the timing tensioner when it's still under tension. My factory manual shows a way to remove the tension on the piston so the bolts can be easily taken out. In all, this job went relatively smooth but the factory manual (with all the torque values) and your video made it doable. I saved about $750 just in labor.

Great video Brian. Thank you. I am thinking of buying a 2005 MDX with 107k miles. It has not had the belt replaced yet. Acura wants $1600 to replace it...

Great video. I've been running from the driveway into the house to rewatch parts of the video to make sure I get it right! Before you took the old belt off, you lined up the cams and cranshaft markings. Then after you replaced with the new belt, you rotated it around again, even though you mentioned the marks looked good. Just wondering if this was necessary or if you just did it for piece of mind. Thanks so much. I watched 5 or 6 other videos and this one was by far the best.

Edward Fitzgerald You always want to rotate around and double check your marks. Anything could happen.

My water pump is leaking and you mentioned about check engine light be on, can you elaborate on that please and thank you

If the CEL is on before hand you want to scan and record the codes so that when you finish the job you can rescan for codes to make sure you didn't add a problem. If it's off to begin with then typically if a mistake is made on the job a CEL will come on soon after starting the car indicating you didn't do it correctly. If the light is on vefore and after it's harder to tell what codes existed and what codes you added if you didn't scan it first. Also occasionally things inside the timing cover can cause a CEL and those parts are far cheaper to replace when the cover is off to do the belt as opposed to taking it all apart again to fix the CEL later.

he made it look easy. but how do you know when to change the timing belt?
@sloananderson43173 жыл бұрын
Engine will be misfiring. Will be running kinda rough
@jombajuice27 Жыл бұрын
Change the timing belt every 100,000 miles regardless. This engine is an interference engine and will destroy itself if the timing belt breaks.

How can you test drive if the timing belt is gone? Is this what happened?
@HowtoAutomotive8 жыл бұрын
Yvonda Williams The timing belt was replaced as maintenance. The water pump is leaking and you have to take the timing belt off to replace the water pump so you do it at the same time. Hope this answers your question. Thank you for watching!

1:40. Holy tightness. I am doing this on my garage floor, no lift. How the heck can i loosen this up? Can i heat it up with a flame? will that help? Shoot, this is sooo hard.
@HowtoAutomotive2 жыл бұрын
If you use heat you’ll melt the cover and the seals behind it

@@HowtoAutomotive Thanks. I ended up buying 2 breaker bars. The special tool, that huge nut you use on that pulley, so much play in it, i had to press in a diameter pvc pipe inside it, and then i pressed in a steel threaded nipped. This made it with enough room for Socket to rotate without friction. Plus i did this on the ground. No garage lift, just car on the jacks.After a few attempts, Bolt finally broke free.

Agree and I do this professionally. Trade "secret" we watch KZbin videos all the time for repairs. Luckily most of us also know when a video is quality like this or terrible like many are. Good job to the tech that made this video!
