Welcome to the world of home ownership. As a decades long home owner, I would encourage you to consult KZbin first, anytime you have a pending repair issue before you call in the expensive specialists. You might surprise yourself in just how successful you might be in solving a lot of home repairs yourself as a consequence of consulting KZbin first. There is a wealth of information here. Best of luck in the future.

Great vid but wonder if it can help with this particular anomaly after re-engaging? : Mine's a brand new garage door (I'd also been moving stuff in to store). My girlfriend didn't leave her key fob so I had to open the garage manually. I re-engaged the part that pulls back the garage door but the door is now only half closing?! i.e. I note the travelling white part (that engages the black metal mechanism part of the door) is stopping about two feet away from where it should - hence the door no longer shutting. I definitely haven't broken anything but that re-engaged white part refuses to travel back to it's further forward original position. Any extra help is welcome before I try tomorrow...!

Well-done and helpful video! I've had to adjust the sensors on occasion when they had been bumped and misaligned, but was stumped when the door would open but not go down more than a couple of inches. After viewing your video I looked more closely at the wire connections to the sensors and discovered that 1 wire had come slightly loose but it was not readily apparent upon a casual visual inspection. After reconnecting it, the sensor lights came back on and the door closes properly again. I appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge so that others can benefit from it. And your explanations and visual examples were clear and easy to follow. Thanks!

Also if you have direct sunlight hitting one of the beams, that will cause your door to not shut! I just found this out with my door! I put a piece of cardboard near the sensor to shade it, and it works perfect now. That sun would hit that beam every year in the month of February, just at the right angle to interfere with the electric beam!
@HowToHomeDIY3 жыл бұрын
Excellent tip! While it is rare, it definitely does happen. Glad you figured that out. I have heard from a couple others with the same situation. In a couple of weeks the angle of the sun will be different and the issue will magically go away haha. Thanks for the feedback and that extra tip for folks!

8:29 I’m a newly single woman whose ex used to fix everything. Now that it’s on me my first instinct is to call a repairman. I’m so glad I watched your video first! My sensors weren’t in alignment. I fixed them and the door came down! Thank you so much!

For anyone who happens to read this, make sure both sensors are actually installed! In this case, they make no light at all. I had thought, "oh, maybe my garage has only onc sensor, and doesn't have lights on it." I was wrong. I probably knocked off one of my sensors while taking the trash out. In any case, thanks for the video, and it got me thinking along the right track!

Thanks so much for this video, saved me a repair call. It was a sensor that got tilted upwards then had the metal framing blocking it. I had just had a delivery and the door was open, delivery person put the package inside the garage and must have knocked it. I just repositioned it and door works fine now. Thanks again!
