Great vid but wonder if it can help with this particular anomaly after re-engaging? : Mine's a brand new garage door (I'd also been moving stuff in to store). My girlfriend didn't leave her key fob so I had to open the garage manually. I re-engaged the part that pulls back the garage door but the door is now only half closing?! i.e. I note the travelling white part (that engages the black metal mechanism part of the door) is stopping about two feet away from where it should - hence the door no longer shutting. I definitely haven't broken anything but that re-engaged white part refuses to travel back to it's further forward original position. Any extra help is welcome before I try a sensors check / travel adjustment tomorrow...!

At last - a video addressing my exact issue! Garage door would begin to close, then reverse about a foot before fully closing, and the main unit would blink. OMG!! I LOVE you!! I kept reading the instructions and troubleshooting on various sites having NO idea what they were talking about. I had a feeling it was the sensors but they kept saying things about wiring, voltage testing, etc.... UGH!!! Your videos was perfect and explained EXACTLY what to look for and how to fix it & why. I was able to get the garage door closed by just holding the button constantly but I can't do that when I leave with the remote soooo.... Lets hope that is what it is. We just had a 5.1 earthquake today so it probably was loose & that knocked it out of alignment. It is dark now and there are spiders back there... so tomorrow morning when it is light I will don gloves and know what to look for to fix it. Bless you for such a simple and clear explanation.

It worked... sorta. The problem was actually a loose connection at the push in connector on the opener in the rafters. When I turned the sensor sideways... the light went on & BUT when I turned it right way.. nada. I knew (1) It was a sensor problem (the amber sender was dark & the green receiver was solid) & (2) I used another guys vid to check if it was receiving a signal by using my TV remote & clicking it next to the sensor to see if I had a signal & just couldn't see it in the sunshine ... nothing. So (3) I checked the wires by the door & all looked good. Then (4) I played with the wires at the push in connectors while chanting please God, please God (couldn't hurt right?) and used the remote to see if I got a light & BINGO!! Tightened the wingnut & VOILA!! Solid amber!! I have a working door!!! I also disconnected the door & sprayed Triflow on the hinges, springs & wheel bearings & cleaned extra oil out of the track. Heaven knows when that "annual" maintenance was last done. I had de-spidered the door & had the ladder out, so why not!! Seriously, you gave me the confidence to do all of that & I can now get in & out of the garage....and quietly. My neighbors probably love you too! Thank you again!!!

In my case , the visual blockage to the other sensor was resulting from a spider web array on the sensor and a slight adjustment of the wing nut. Wow! It all worked 1,2,3. Thanks Again. We had to get out of the car and close it manually with the external control and sometimes the door was going back making us get mad and waste time, I replaced the rollers, greased everything and today I looked for another alternative and found your video. If the overhead unit light is not blinking, it is not an alignment problem with the sensor; it may be that the down force needs to be adjusted i.e. increased. If the door when taken off the opener moves up and down freely, that may be the solution. The force can be changed via the screws at the back of the motor unit, one is for down and one is for up force.

This evening my garage door started automatically going back up, everytime it got about a foot from the ground when I was attempting to close it. I tried to close it about 10 times, and got the same result every time. After doing some troubleshooting, I discovered that my issue turned out to be a loose bracket that held one of the sensors to the wall. Whoever installed the system before I bought the house, used nails to secure the brackets to the wall instead of screws. So the nails in one of the brackets had loosened a bit, allowing the bracket to slightly vibrate once the bottom of the door was near the sensor. As a result, and while the sensor bracket was vibrating, the sensors got misaligned for a slight moment, triggering the safety mechanism. I replaced the nails with screws and the problem was solved.

My problem was not included in the video, so I thought I would mention it. The curved arm that attaches the trolley track to the garage door has two bolts/nuts on my door. I did not realize that one of the bolts had fallen out. The arm was no longer straight and it ended up literally pushing the top of the garage door down at it's top instead of "pushing" the door down from the point where it is mounted. Then, the mounting point where the manual release is attached came loose. I found the original bolt and added a new nut and then re-affixed the locking portion into the base where it locks.......this solved the problem. The garage door was stopping about a foot or more above the ground because it was just pushing the garage door down from the top. Hope this helps.

My garage door won't close because there was an obstruction blocking the sensors which I didn't know. I decided to search KZbin for an answer. I found a video that outlined everything you need to do to fix the problem. I removed the obstruction but did not attempt to close the garage door because the video said both sensors light must be green. But one of mine didn't turn green. Then I searched further, and found your video. I heard you say in your video that some garage doors sensors may not have both lights green. This saved me. One of mine was green and the other amber. So I decided to try to shut the door and voila it closed. Thank you for that detail.

My garage door opener will not close if opened or will not open if closed. Following this video, one of the sensors does not have a green light. I climbed up to the "motor unit" and wiggle the wires that connect to the sensors. One of the wires was loose and can easily be pulled out. I pull the wire all the way out and push it back all the way in. Now I have a green light on each sensor. Problem fixed. I almost call the garage door opener people!

My garage door failed in the manner you showed me on your video. I checked one sensor that had a bright orange non-flickering light. Because of your advice, I knew that was the power sensor and that it was working correctly. I checked the second sensor and that sensor had a dim green bulb. I cleaned both sensor lenses with Windex. I adjusted the wing-nut on the sensor with the dim green bulb until that bulb turned on and remained bright green. The door closes perfectly. Thank you for your help.

thank you. I spent the day trying to use a relay with an esp32 to "hold" the switch down for exactly 1350 ms to get the door to close. No luck as the door switch seems to be more than just a simple switch. Fix the sensors!!! I should have known because of the intermittent nature of the problem. Thanks for posting.

It's a "winter storm advisory" after already just getting 8 inches of snow and having negative -17°F temperatures here in between Denver and Boulder, Colorado. I had a heavy huge garbage can to put out that bumped my censor off course. I didn't realize there was anything (which is ridiculous because how else does it know when stuff's in the way?! I had pulled the string because, why not? Right? It's what you do when the door isn't working. That left me with what I thought were 2 problems then. Perfect! I checked sensors first but didn’t catch the flickering light. After futzing with examining and lubricating chain and track I found this video. One sensor was very slightly misaligned! Thank you!

My door stopped and reversed 8 inches above the floor. So your video led me to think when the door gets close it twists the rail and light just enough to break beam contact so I adjusted the green light unit, tweaked it in, and it seems to work now. Thanks!

Thank you! The sensors weren’t my problem, but you got me on the right path with the lights on them. Eventually found a loose wire in the unit that caused the sensor lights to flicker. Secured it and works great!

How did you fix the loose wire? From the head unit or sensor? Main wire?

@@stingrayproduction4249 I was up inspecting the unit and simultaneously looking at the lights on the sensors. I noticed as I was poking around, the lights on the sensors were flickering. Turned out to be where the power line plugged into an extension cord. It wasn’t making a solid connection. So when the unit would vibrate to lower the door, it would trip the power off and on, sending the door back open.

I think that is my problem too. Cleaned the sensor and have it face each other, but still doesn't work. It closed for about a feet than go back up. Thanks for the reply. Hopefully it work after this.

Hey Mike, Thanks a bunch. Sometimes we take the hardest and most expensive roads to find out the simplest of corrections saved time and $$$$$! Cleaned the sensors, and garage doors working and closed the book for now on a new opener which was not needed.
