wow that new set of buds inside the blooms is sooo cool! I had no idea they could do that. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous obovata!

So crazy right? The second batch just bloomed. 🙂 It must be on steroids lol (or more likely it’s because of the fertilizer). Thanks for watching!

I was encouraged to pick the Hoya flowers in the greenhouse as a child.

Oh wow what a nice memory 🙂Did you pick just the flowers or the peduncles as well? If just the flowers, I wonder if it affects that specific section from growing another flower on the peduncle.

Hi! What lighting is your hoya in? Is that an eastward facing window?
@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
Hello! It's in a north facing window but it's right in front of bay windows so it has a bit of western light.

I check in our forum hoyas. It is a legend that hoya nectar poisoning. In our country writing "nectar" don't mean a "nectar flowers" but "nectar of plant". Hoya are poison when we eat them, but noone write about nectar flower. Sorry for missunderstanding - but one of mit are overthrown. Still is possible to poison, when you eat to much.

No worries, good to know it’s about the plant itself but I should also be cautious about the flower water since I don’t have any information about it being safe. Thanks for your concern and for sharing!

I been really keeping an eye on this hoya ((: and wow within a year it got that big from a cutting?
@LittleLeafSF4 жыл бұрын
Yep a cutting 🙂 (it was rooted). It bloomed after a year but I’ve had it for about two years so this is the second time it bloomed 🌱🌸. I’m sure the fertilizer helped a lot but seems to be an easy grower in general.

I have one of these, grew it from a single cutting. It’s now in the largest size hanging pot I can buy, and is too big and too heavy for it. It breaks the hangers. I’m at a loss for what else to do, beyond putting it in a giant pot that I can stick a trellis into. The thing is a monster.

I haven't figured out what to do when my plants get too big. I keep on repotting mine too but most of them aren't hanging. Others have said (not sure if true) that Hoyas are okay being pot bound. Maybe if you are okay with the size now you can take cuttings from it to keep the same size so the current roots can support the current size? I wonder if people ever cut the roots back as well to keep it in the same size pot. I haven't looked into it but wondering if bonsai techniques can apply to other plants too like Hoyas so we don't have to end up with a 30 inch pot in the future lol.

@@LittleLeafSF I never thought of cutting the roots back....good idea. Obovata is the hardiest Hoya I’ve ever grown, so it would probably be ok with this. And yes, hoyas do like to be pot bound. I think for most of them, that’s when they bloom. I grew my first one from cuttings from a big green carnosa in Texas. Carried them home in my lap on the plane. It took over 10 years for it to bloom - but that could have had to do with it not always getting the best light. Yet, I’ve had other hoyas that bloomed when they were not pot bound. At one time I had around 80 of them, now I have maybe around 20. And most of them need to be repotted, going to repot my Autralius (sp??) right now....
@LittleLeafSF3 жыл бұрын
If you try cutting the roots back, would love to hear how it goes, I might be too scared to try but really wonder if they can survive in the same small pot forever. My obovata is blooming like crazy so I'm guessing it's pot bound. What a nice memory of traveling with a plant 🙂 Did you keep repotting your carnosa for 10 years or is it outdoors in the wild?
