How absolutely endearing watching this interview before his success took off, that he seems and sounds exactly the same as the interviews he's done now and thus far! Same nervousness, soft spoken, articulate and still so effin down to earth Andrew. Bless his parents for having raised such a fine, and genuine young man!

Fitting he said one of his influences was African American because when i heard TMtC the 1st time i envisioned an old black guy with a choir singing it. Lol lo and behold it was a lanky Irish lad. very talented dude.

Love the photos at the end. Nice shots in themselves, but I love Andy's shorter hair around the front. Those curls are delightful.

Did he just misspelled his name as "HOZIEOR" at 3:11 or am I going crazy😅
@ermadavis32033 жыл бұрын
Blackthorn Tree, not crazy. Sounding it out, I think he spelled it Ho(zed)ie(or).

@@ermadavis3203 yes! Maybe he was nervous or maybe we don't hear it clearly

Irish people normally pronounce the letter r as 'or'

I am really finding it hard to warm to that interviewer...She should get her facts straight before she starts putting people in awkward positions...she's quite pushy...:/
@JCBtractor2510 жыл бұрын
yeah, you can tell she isn't that interested or passionate about Hozier which is annoying.
@stephaniebrennan958010 жыл бұрын
Exactly! It's like she just learned questions off by heart and hasn't researched anything properly. Like she didn't even know that it wasn't his band! :P
@JCBtractor2510 жыл бұрын
agreed, although theres one thing not knowing much about him because he isn't a very well known artist, but to not be enthusiastic about interviewing is a total other thing. You can just tell by her expression that she'd rather be interviewing One- Direction, or something awful
@stephaniebrennan958010 жыл бұрын
Okay although I agree with both of you on her shoddy interviewing skills, let us not make this a band comparison...I do agree that Hozier is an extremely talented dude who deserves all the success that's coming to him BUT that does not necessitate listing off other artists as crap in comparison. In my opinion, yes he has a more genuine talent, but I hate slating bands just because they're more 'mainstream', or not as 'deep'. It's all subjective...Though yes personally I would rather listen to Hozier than One Direction.

Hi Stephanie, Yes I'll agree that my interviewing skills are not the best in this situation but let me explain myself. Firstly, I wasn't supposed to be interviewing Hozier that day, or at all, and had never heard of him before (as most people hadn't, it was before Take Me to Church was released) and we had happened to bump into a friend of his that I knew and so the interview was agreed to five minutes before it took place. I asked what he would like to talk about, as I had no time to research, and so that's why I didn't really have a good idea of what questions as I knew nothing about him other than to talk about 3/4 events that he told me about. Secondly, this was my second ever interview I ever did, with the first taking place about an hour before,and I don't know if you can tell but I was extremely nervous because of that reason on top of feeling out of my comfort zone having an unplanned and unresearched interview. In all honesty I was trying to keep calm and build questions around the things he wanted to talk about hence why it wasn't more of a flowing dialogue. Hozier was hardly known at all (this interview was in July) and so I had no real knowledge of him and found it hard to manoeuvre the interview on the spot. As I said I was brand new to interviewing and it obviously isn't the best interview ever but I've learnt (and will continue to do so) from interviews I've done in the past whether they were poor or otherwise. Hozier is a genuinely kind and down-to-earth guy who could tell I wasn't the happiest with the interview after it ended and told me I did a great job considering the situation. I'll appreciate your criticism and will try to apply it to interviews in the future but I just wanted to give you the background to the interview and why it is the way it is. -Miriam
