Can you explain the last part again? When exactly do you replace to the 2nd set and how does the printer kill the chip? Just so I know how to prevent it because I've already gotten 4 sets of ink that do not work anymore after 2 years of refill

How does the printer know the weight of the cartridge to allow you to continue printing?

hi I am sorry that i can not give you detail answer. I am not a HP engineer so it is kind of hard to explain their mechanism . only thing for sure is , printer will ask resume printing if the cartridge still have ink in it . you may call me 1-909-815-6681 if you are in US. @@user-ly1xp8jr5h Hi no need to apologize but i find it interesting that the printer could some how measure the weight of the cartridge. I thought the printer used gauge the cartridge ink level by the chip writing an estimated amount. Thanks for the feedback though. One more question about the contamination situation, what if the problem about the ink mixing happens with brand new original cartridges as you put it into a printhead?

It mostly happened by refilled or remanufactured cartridge. Manufacturer did not removed excess air in the cartrodge after refilled . So too much air pressure goes in to the cartridge when installed. Mostly yellow gets contaminated. When that happened you also need to check yellow cartridge contamination. Because contaminated ink goes back to the cartridge. Solution. You have to rinse it our with proper tools and cleaning solution. I do notnrecommed to use regular water. Distilled water is ok You have to rinse it out

Yes but the prints won't be quite as crisp. Never mix pigmented and non-pigmented inks
