Worked perfectly. Cartridges did recognize that they were used before, but the printer still accepted them. The printer seems to think they are only half full, which maybe I didn't get them full but it sure felt like it. In any case the Ink Owl system worked well with minimal mess. Most of the mess was because of my inexperience. By the 2nd cartridge it was a lot better. Wear gloves like in the video and use an old towel to catch any splatter and wipe of the syringe. I would recommend. Nicely designed.

I have the hp 8710, firmware WBP2CN1803AR and i'm not sure if the rotation works in this specific printer since i assume the 954 is used on various models, I'm so mad at HP since I just runned out of cyan and then bought the original xl yesterday and as soon as I install it the yellow ran out! wtf! Not sure why i'm almost positive that ass soon as I replace the yellow the mageta will run out too. so back to my question what do you know about the 8710 and this firmware? thanks a lot regards, Sergio.

My 8715 with starter cartridges does not get to "depleted". They have the yellow triangle and the printer will only allow printing in black even though the magenta and black have ink and the cyan and yellow both have yellow triangles. Just fyi... If by chance you only have one cartridge or you pull it out before it is done and says that is depleted, it takes a few moments of your time but you can go into the settings of the printer itself and turn off the setting that tells it to remember the last cartridge

Just a point for clarification. The bag inside the ink cartridge does not hold ink. It holds air. The air bag expands to help push the ink out.

Hi, this video and the stuff about 2 cartridge sets being required does not apply to the MFC-J6930DW. However, that being said, the answer to your question is that no, you can't really refill the original Brother cartridge reliably, and so refillable cartridges are highly recommended, if not obligatory. Unfortunately, we don't carry the LC3317/3319 series cartridges for AUS/NZ, so you'd need to obtain them from a local source.

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 9015, which I'm sure you have a refill kit for. Another ink supplier's "how to" video showed that the 9015 will no longer the display the ink amount onscreen, in the Printer Status page, or in HP Smart. He also said, "You Must turn Off Auto Updates or HP may 'shut you down!'." Does your ink and refill procedure allow for normal operation, including all ink level indications, everywhere, and the low and depleted warning notifications? Does it allow for leaving Auto Updates On? His did not show sucking the air out of the cartridge and it was not mentioned. Not that I'm disputing it here! Also, someone in comments said, _"The bag inside the ink cartridge does not hold ink. It holds air. The air bag expands to help push the ink out."_ Is this correct and does the bag still expand to push the ink to print head? If your procedure sucks out air, then that would seem to be from the ink bag, with maybe an air bag behind that expands as the ink bag empties. Which is correct? And if while continuing to press ink in with the syringe, air gets pushed in because the pump was pushed too far or the syringe wasn't removed quickly enough, is there a "Burping" procedure to do? Or does the Priming do that? You removed about 4 cc/ml during Prime. Is it necessary to take that much out? His didn't show that (only mentioned it as a possibility), so your procedure looks more complete. Please answer all question. Thanks

The HP 962 cartridges as used in the HP 9015 printer are refilled exactly the same as the HP 952 shown in this video. This includes the whole refill protocol with switching between cartridges: 1. Never remove a cartridge unless DEPLETED. 2. Install and use a DIFFERENT (and full) cartridge in the place of the depleted one. To answer your questions: The ink levels are not displayed when using refilled cartridges. You will instead see a blank bar. However, since you must never remove a cartridge unless depleted (and you get the "Cartridge Depleted" message) regardless, seeing exact ink level indications is not really important. Simply print and print until the printer gives you the "Cartridge Depleted" message, at which point, remove the affected cartridge, and refill and install your alternate. HP's software updates can affect the use of generic (non-HP) cartridges. They will not affect the refilling of genuine HP cartridges. If the cartridges you will be refilling are all genuine HP, you do not need to change the Auto Update settings. The priming step indeed removes all trapped air from the ink chamber. As you inject, air pressure naturally builds in the chamber. As shown in our video, you have to hold the syringe in place but release the plunger, and it will automatically recoil to relieve some of that pressure. Of course, it will not relieve it all, hence why we include a priming step in our instructions. The inclusion of this step yields much more reliable results from the refill. During priming, you will hold the cartridge with the exit hole facing upwards and suck out. There is no set amount to suck. Instead, suck until you see actual liquid has exited into the syringe. At that point, stop, and you can put the extracted ink back into your bottle, and install the newly refilled cartridge.

I have bought some ink from you for 952XL cartridges to be used in an HP 8710 printer. After I remove a depleted cartridge and replace it with a refilled cartridge, I will then need to refill the depleted cartridge. Question 1). Do you have any recommendations on WHEN to refill a depleted cartridge? Should I refill it immediately and store it full ready for the next time that I'll need it, which might be 6 months in the future? Or should I store it in its depleted condition and not refill it until I need it, or shortly before? Background to Question 2) I have been caught a few times in the past by buying spare ink cartridges early and then not needed them until.about 12 months after I bought them, only to find that when I installed them 12 months later, they didn't work. It has just happened to me tonight. I had bought some refilled cartridges 13 months ago and when I needed the black one tonight it didn't work! The printer told me it was faulty and would not work. It was very frustrating. So, on to the question: Question 2) Suppose I remove a depleted cartridge (let's call it cartridge 1) and immediately replace it with a refilled one, cartridge 2. If I refill cartridge 1 soon after removing it, say in a few days to a week, can I then temporarily remove cartridge 2 and re-install the refilled cartridge 1 to check that it works, then remove cartridge 1 to store it until it is needed, and replace cartridge 2 back in the printer? This seems to me like a good way to test a refilled cartridge but it will violate twice the protocol step that you have given which tells me to never remove a cartridge until I get a "cartridge depleted" message. What would you advise? And for this scenario is your recommendation mild or strong? How important is it? Thank you.

1. There is no requirement on when your empty cartridge needs to be refilled. You may choose to fill only when it's time to reinstall, or you may choose to fill in advance to save time later, this is totally up to you! 2. Genuine HP cartridges, even if refilled, should always work, regardless of the length of time. Non-HP generic cartridges can be disabled by HP firmware updates. Every few months, HP will issue a software update to improve the printer's ability to detect non-HP cartridges and reject them with the "Cartridge Problem" message. Any generic cartridge manufactured before the time of the update but installed after the time of the update will not work. The industry is pretty quick at adapting to these updates, so within a few weeks, newly sold generic cartridges will work again, but any cartridge sold before the update will never work again. If you plan to use or refill non-HP generic cartridges, it is essential that you turn off automatic firmware updates on your HP printer. If you need assistance with that, please contact our tech support directly as you are our customer. Note that refilling genuine HP cartridges (using the protocol described in this video) will never be affected by firmware updates. To answer your main question, no, you should absolutely not test the cartridges in the manner you describe. This protocol as described in the video is absolutely essential, or else the printer will give you an "Impossible to Use" message with the refilled cartridges down the road. If you are refilling genuine HP cartridges, testing cartridges in advance is unnecessary, as the cartridges really should work. If a refilled genuine HP cartridge gives an error message, there is always a blatant reason (either the priming step was skipped for "Cartridge Depleted" or the refill protocol was not followed for "Impossible to Use"). If the cartridges you are refilling are generic non-HP cartridges, then a firmware update may have disabled them giving a "Cartridge Problem" error, but provided you have turned automatic updates, you'd be on the same firmware version now as you would be upon installation, so testing them in advance changes nothing.

The factory carts are refillable, following the instructions in the video. I would advise against these printers though. To refill them successfully, you absolutely need to own 2 sets of HP 952 cartridges! So, you have to buy not only a printer, but a second set of cartridges too, a very expensive proposition. I would recommend a Brother or Canon printer instead.

Yes, the HP 955 can be refilled without replacing the chip. However, you need two sets of cartridges. When one cartridge goes completely empty (Ink Cartridge Depleted), remove it, and install the second one. Then, when that one goes completely empty, you would reinstall the first one (refilled). And so on, waiting for the cartridge to go depleted before installing your alternate.

This is simply the way these printers were programmed. The exact protocol as described in the video will allow the printer to accept your refilled cartridges. If the protocol is not followed, the cartridges may end up rejected with various error messages.

While on other webs they offered no refill solution for 953 cartridges, the product description on this video does. So, could I use your refill pack with the starter cartridges that came with my printer (again the pro 7740) and another set for sure ?? This method absolutely works for HP 953 cartridges. You can certainly refill if you have your starter set plus a 2nd set. As explained in the video, you must: - Never remove any cartridge from the printer unless you get the message "Cartridge Depleted" (unsure of the exact wording in Spanish). However, if you can still print, then it is not yet depleted! When the cartridge is depleted, remove only the color that is marked as "Depleted", not all 4. - Always install a DIFFERENT and FULL cartridge in the place of the one you just removed. You cannot refill and install the same cartridge you just removed, you must install a different one. Once installed, leave it and use it up naturally. Your first cartridge can be set aside for a future refill. We do offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on our inks. However, returning the products from Spain may be a bit tricky. That said, so long as the refill protocol above is followed precisely, the refills will be accepted. Worst case, if a mistake is made and the printer rejects the cartridge, the ink can still be recovered for use next time.

Yeah, this series is expensive to refill because on top of buying the printer, it's mandatory to get a 2nd set of cartridges (see the video). BROTHER printers (ie: MFC-J4420DW) are generally the best for refilling and are much less expensive too.

HP's firmware updates don't affect the ability to refill original HP cartridges. So long as you own 1 spare set of cartridges plus the ones currently in your printer, you can refill successfully.

I understand the "rotation process"; but I was wondering what will happen if I removed ALL of the cartridges instead of just the "depleted one" and replaced them with 4 filled ones (non original HP)?? I am assuming nothing will occur- that is, until I tried to replace that filled set (or just one cartridge of it) with another non HP filled set (or individual cartridge) at that time I may get a system shut down status. The error will happen when you attempt to use a refilled cartridge that was originally removed before depletion, you will get a "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" message. You must only refill cartridges that were fully depleted when originally removed. The easiest way to guarantee this is by only removing the single color that is affected whenever you get a "Depleted" message, never all 4.

Yes, these printers allow rotation between multiple machines. The important thing is never to put the same cartridge in twice in a row. Always wait for the cartridge to be "Depleted" before removing it, and remove only the color that is marked "Depleted".

It is not necessary to replace the chips if you follow the protocol explained in the video. You need to own more than one set of cartridges. You need to leave the cartridges in the printer until the "Cartridge Depleted" message appears. At that time, you'll remove ONLY the color that is marked depleted, and you'll install a DIFFERENT, FILLED cartridge in its place. And then, continue in this manner, always installing alternate cartridges, never the same one twice in a row.

@@InkOwldotcom my logic says you only make under pressure by sucking out the air through refill hole so you can fill it with ink. since the bag inside is not ink bag but air bag (somebody wrote it here and i believe him because i have taken apart a counterfeit cartridge and i can confirm), if you wanted to suck the air out of bag then you had to use a different hole for it because the bag is not connected with space where ink is located and is accessible through different hole. so i dont believe the explanation is correct. but i might be wrong too. So i would appreciate some response what do you think

Hi, I have refilled the SETUP cartridges but I missed the step 5, refilled cartridges showed up as Depleted when inserted and now I get ''Used, Refilled or Counterfeit" in the app, without ink level. Also, the ink is dye-based and print quality is not very good so I'm gonna order pigment ink, what can I do next? 1. Should I remove the ink (that I put) from the SETUP cartridges and refill them with pigment ink and reinsert the same cartridges? 2. Should I fill my depleted 953XL cartridges with pigment ink and replace the SETUP ones, or something else?

Indeed, if you skip the priming step (step 5 in our video), the cartridges will be rejected. Dye-based ink is of course also not ideal. You really want to be using a pigment-based ink designed specifically for these printers. In any case, you must also never remove cartridges unless and until they are marked as "Depleted". As such, if your SETUP ones are in there now with the dye ink, removing them now will render them un-refillable in the future. Therefore, my recommendation would be to remove them and throw them away, and replace them with a brand-new set of cartridges. Once these cartridges go depleted (and just for the specific color that's depleted of course), you could take your spare 953XL, refill with pigment ink, and install.

The technique is the same for HP 964, completely identical. Provided that you follow the protocol (always using a cartridge until depleted, any always installing a different cartridge in its place), you will be able to refill indefinitely. We do ship to Chile normally, but right now with COVID, only with UPS which is expensive. Therefore, I recommend finding an ink supplier locally for now.

You need to refill both cartridges and actually use both cartridges in sequence. So when cartridge #1 goes depleted, refill and use cartridge #2. Then, when it goes depleted, refill and use cartridge #1, and so on...

The 2 cartridges don't have to be genuine HP for this work. So long as the protocol is respected, the refilled cartridges will be accepted by the printer. Use any cartridge you own until it is totally depleted and gives the "depleted cartridge" message. And then, install a different cartridge in the place of any cartridge you remove.

I'm not sure. The setup cartridges that come with the printer will work for sure. The setup cartridges that came with a different printer might not. Setup cartridges are permanently tied a specific machine. It would be best to use 1 set of setup cartridges and 1 set of store-bought #954 cartridges.

If the message is already displayed, then you have to get another ink cartridge in there right away. You need to use that ink cartridge until you get the message "Cartridge Depleted", then you can go back to the first set.

I'll have an aftermarket set and the original hp instant ink set. My question is after my aftermarket set is depleted and I switch for the instant ink set, can I just immediately remove the instant ink set and reinstall the freshly filled after market set? This doesn't work, "Instant Ink" cartridges cannot be refilled or used as part of this rotation precisely because they are subscription based. Installing the Instant Ink cartridge without being a member does not work for the purpose of enabling the refill. You absolutely need a minimum of 2 cartridges of each color, either HP store-bought or aftermarket is fine.

Unfortunately, this is the way that HP programmed these printers. If you just refill the same cartridge and put it in, it will be rejected with the "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" message. You absolutely must do the following: - Never remove any cartridge from the printer until it is marked as "Cartridge Depleted". Even so, remove just the color that is marked depleted, not all 4. - Always install a DIFFERENT and FULL cartridge in the place of the one you just removed. This new cartridge could be brand-new HP or it could be a refilled cartridge, but the important thing is that it have ink inside and not be the same out that was just taken out. The cartridge that was just taken out can be set aside for a future refill.

There are a couple of ways to do it, no one way is the right way. This is just the way that we developed and prefer, and this is how instruct our customers to do it, we provide them with the special tips that hermetically connect to the exit port. One thing is for sure, you have to follow the steps of waiting for cartridge #1 to be totally empty, then using cartridge #2 until it is totally emptied, and then refilling and using cartridge #1 until empty, then refilling and using cartridge #2 until empty, and so on and so forth.

We eliminate any pressure before filling in Step 1 (1:16), this step not super important, but is ideal to avoid problems filling. Then, after the filling, we prime the cartridge in Step 5 (2:32), this step is absolutely required for the cartridge to work, so do not skip it.

Firmware updates can block non-HP generic cartridges, but they will not block the refilling of original HP cartridges. So, this technique still works. Of course, it's essential to NEVER remove cartridges from the printer until the printer forces you to with the message "Cartridge Depleted", and then, to always install a DIFFERENT, FULL cartridge in the place of the one you removed.

That's correct, once your 2nd depletes, you'd use your 1st (refilled) until it depletes, and then your 2nd (refilled) until it depletes, and so on. The key is to never remove a cartridge unless it is marked "depleted", to remove that color only, and replace it with a different cartridge. So long as that's done, you can refill this printer indefinitely.

You absolutely need to use two cartridges of each color, and to wait for the first cartridge to become "depleted" and show the (-) symbol before removing it to use the second cartridge. Then, once the second cartridge becomes "depleted", you can refill and reinstall your first one. This is the only way to prevent that error message. If that error message has happened, remove the refilled cartridges and install different ones and use those ones until they are "depleted".

Hello, I purchased your product and followed all directions. I am using the ink that came with the printer but I have 2 of them. They say "Instant Ink Ready" on both cartridges. After refilling the error message I get is: "Only one set of Instant Ink Ready cartridges can be used in a printer. Remove and replace with other cartridges." The ink kit we sell will work with HP 953 as well, but the cartridges we sell will not work with HP 953. Cartridges without chip would require you to move the HP chip onto them to work. I definitely don't recommend this. I would recommend simply refilling the HP 953 cartridges you already own by following the instructions in this video. Note that it is mandatory to own 2 cartridges of each color and to alternate between them as explained in this video.

Unfortunately, starter cartridges can only be used in the printer they came with. The printer won't accept a starter cartridge that was for another machine, even of the same model. You're right that these extra cartridges are expensive. However, the second set of cartridge doesn't have to be original HP, it can be a generic compatible set, it makes no difference. That being said, if you haven't bought this HP printer yet, you'd be better off looking for a model more conducive to refilling.

Universal-type inks are normally dye-based for the colors, and this is not good in this model because all 4 colors are pigment-based on these printers. The mixture of pigment and dye ink in the cartridge and in the printhead unit can result in print quality issues.

It is normal that the printer not display any ink level. This is not a problem since you need to print until the cartridge is fully depleted, in any case. Keep in mind that to refill this model successfully, you must never remove the cartridge from the printer unless it is marked as depleted. Very important: once a cartridge is depleted, you must install the second cartridge, but only for that color. The printer will not read the ink levels and will warn you at installation that this is a Used Ink Cartridge, but other than that, no errors should occur.

you can circumvent a lot of that buggery, by changing some setting in the service menu, that simply disables the printer from remembering cartridges' IDs. but IMHO it's still wirth it to invest 15-20us$ in a set of WB-V4-H-951XL carts, (or ~10 for a set of empty ones), because they scome with self resetting chips and hold 3 times as much ink as legit HP950 carts.

To answer your questions: 1. When the refilled cartridge is first installed, you will get a message that the cartridge is a used cartridge, but other than that, there are no error messages. The ink levels do not show up, but the "Cartridge Depleted" message will show up at the appropriate time (the printer has a sensor that detects when the ink flow is terminated). Since you must never remove cartridges from the printer unless depleted, simply print and print and print until you get the "Cartridge Depleted" message. 2. We've never heard of any kind of override to disable the ink cartridge chips or any of that. To our knowledge, the only way to refill these printers is to own at least 2 of each color cartridge, using each cartridge until depleted, and always installing a different cartridge than the one you just took out. It is possible to use and refill generic cartridges, and we also sell generic cartridges too, along with our refill ink.
