I have one I used for work. I now use it mainly for streaming and browsing. I was drawn to the Slice because of its modularity. HP really dropped the ball on these. It should have had a Blu-ray player, ssd module and an egpu for it amongst other things. I started seeing some of the early minis forum pc's kinda use the similar design concept I thought I'd be able to use those modules but they were smaller than the Slice. The model number for a possible brick & cable solution, (TCP-LA58). Good luck with it.

HP had something there but I guess they decided to continue with the EliteDesks and ProDesks. Thanks for the part number - I was able to confirm that I should have the right power supply for it. I'm also looking to try power via the USB port since hooking up a Dell USB PSU at leasy got me some lights on the power button. When you turn yours on do you hear the fans spin up right away?

Happy to assist. I have a 68 watt type to C and I am unable to use it with the Elite Slice. I guess I should check if it's enabled. When I turn mine on there is a slight whirring that I sometimes have to check for because it can be that quiet. Depending on whether I'm waking it up from sleep or not, it can sound like it is about to prepare for takeoff. I run dual monitors and I assume it's pretty taxing to the cpu. And I do get fan errors sometimes from a Power On.

I wonder if anyone prefers using this unit versus the normal EliteDesk Minis? The two USB Cs is interesting on a Sixth/Seventh Gen Unit. The optional speaker looks cool! I was surprised to see a Socket for fitting a standard size CPU. I'm sure you tried booting it without ram to see if you could get a post code. I had a bad CPU Socket on a Mini that didn't post/or code, just doa. It was sold for parts anyways...so that is always something to factor in. Enjoying these in depth videos of yours. Currently working on my G6 mini, hope to have it up and running soon. It is silky smooth on Win11.

The add-ons are pretty nifty. This one is acting much like the failed G3 I had for another parts video. I felt it cool enough to create a video to perhaps inspire others to try them out.

I have a couple (and heard of) Elitedesk G2 that exhibit the "do nothing" thing - they have a green psu led on the board but are otherwise dead. I was wondering whether there was a bios brick method for the G2 for commercial disposal but this Slice seems too much of a retail unit to have such a function. The obvious failure would be a power supply rail on the board. Never mind, spares are nice :-)

I'm curious about the BIOS brick for the EliteDesk G2 - it was a jumper to kill the unit??

I wanted to offer up a suggestion and highly recommend removing the CMOS battery and using a multimeter to test the voltage on it. if it is too low or dead a lot of these HP units will not even allow the system to boot or post because of that.
@handmedowntechАй бұрын
I like the suggestion. I will try that out before I remove the CPU for my next project. Thanks
@vportablegamer838Ай бұрын
@handmedowntech you're most welcome good luck with your project.

Unfortunately this unit uses a battery plus connector combo. Most units you pop the battery into the mobo but this one looks like you have to buy a replacement thingee that wraps the battery in yellow plastic and then has two wires and a connector. That connector then plugs into a header on the mobo. I'll keep digging. Would like to try a 65w USBC HP charger at some point to see if it will power it.
@vportablegamer838Ай бұрын
@@handmedowntech these are a common technology and you can actually use a small knife to cut off the yellow heat shrink wrapping that is on it and instead clip away the wiring from the dead battery so that you can reuse the connector and the wiring and just buy a standard cr2025 3 volt battery that is already punched with legs and solder the wiring to those legs and then just wrap it up in electrical tape it will do the exact same thing. The easiest way to find these types of batteries is look online for replacement cr2025 batteries for game boy cartridges and you will find plenty of places selling them already tapped with legs that you can solder those two wires to to properly replace the specialized battery that came with this unit

Interesting, so a 2025 vs a 2032?

You used it with a HP power supply right? you can also power it from the single usb c on the back and get display from it which is neat less cables
@handmedowntechАй бұрын
Interesting thought. In case the normal power intake is not working. I'll see if I can find a USB PSU with enough juice.
@handmedowntechАй бұрын
FYI - I tried with USB PSU and this time I at least got 3 red flashes of the power button - so at least something. I then had to cup my hand around the power button to get it dark enough to see the 3 long and 4 short white. Indicates a power failure - which could be because it wants an HP USB adapter.

You sure you have the right power supply these can be pretty picky unfortunately , because if it looks like nothing wrong with it , that's probably the case I have almost made this mistake before In the past with a similar HP thin client

I'm using the same 65w 19.5v 3.33w one I use for the EliteDesk 800. Let me know if there is something different. I know the G2 versions need 90w but this lists 65w even in the parts listings.
