That was enough thermal paste for about 4 CPUs. 😆

you can use intel xeon low power on it like e3 1265L v3 or 1275L v3. Is a blast this PC running Windows server 2022 on it and it performs really great

That might be an idea for a future video. Thanks!

Just a tip, you dont need to spread the thermal paste, just use a pea sized amount in the middle of the cpu and then replace the cooler. The pressure of the cooler will spread it out for you.

Thx. Just waiting to see the next time I need thermal paste so I can redeem myself 😀

I really don't think it's necessary to do a cross pattern when putting in a fan as it does not have any thermal paste. The reason why you should do a cross pattern when replacing a heatsink is to distribute the thermal paste evenly on the die head of the CPU, but that's not really critical. You shouldn't put more than a pea sized portion of thermal paste on the CPU because it will make a mess by spreading all over the processor and socket and you waste so much more than you really need. The G1 has a design flaw. The fan is positioned in back of the heatsink which means the fan has to suck the heat away from the CPU rather than blow it through!

I have a new 8500T coming for my new G4 so I'm hoping to be a bit more conservative with the paste 😄

boot up only from 2.5" connector, not from m.2 SATA
@handmedowntech2 ай бұрын
That's pretty much my standard way of booting all my units now. The two G1 units I have running 247 are running solely off of 2.5 inch SATA.
@johnhudson70558 ай бұрын
I’ve got a laptop that uses m.2 SATA that are identical in appearance to the NVMe drives. I could not for the life of me figure it out, it’s a 7th gen Intel CPU even. After reading the manual it only accepts the SATA drives. It is an Acer laptop so that may be why.
@handmedowntech8 ай бұрын
I'm assuming the SATA has two notches vs the traditional single notch for the NVME?
@johnhudson70558 ай бұрын
@@handmedowntech not always, they both can have the single notch. I thought the SATA only had 2 notches as well.
@handmedowntech8 ай бұрын
So some SATA are single notched?
@johnhudson70558 ай бұрын
@@handmedowntech yep and to make it even more confusing some of the SATA slots only work for SATA and won’t work with NVMe.

Hi - I'm assuming this is probably your post? www.reddit.com/r/pikvm/comments/18hfzlh/hp_g1_mini_and_pikvm/ Would be neat to do but messing with the power connector might not be worth it.

I installed a new NVme drive, formatted. I cloned Windows 10 to the NVMe, but it does NOT boot up. I can only use this drive as a data drive. Do you know how I can make this boot up? I know its NOT a cloning issue, I have cloned dozens of times. I think it’s a Bios boot up issue. In Bios, the NVme does not even show, but it does show up in partitions.

Yeah - me and thermal paste don't get along too well - still trying to get a handle on how much to put down. I look at other folks and some do the "frost the cake" and some just do a couple dots. Which have you found to be the better one?
