EXCELLENT guide. I had to go a little further. HP wisely (NOT) hid the memory UNDER the motherboard. So I had about 6 more screws and 2 more ribbons and a tiny header plug to remove. But they all came out easily and the motherboard leaned up against the bottom of the keyboard while I snapped out the two memory "sticks" and replaced them. I DID overlook the hidden screw under the oval "sticker" on the bottom. Why on EARTH did HP do that? All screws were precisely as you noted. THANK you for the guide HP SHOULD have put on their site.

Thank you for the video. I've had this computer since about 2014 and it is now taking 10 minutes to boot with windows 10. The little tips about the "feet" and the covered screw in the center made this installation successful. The system now comes up in about 10 seconds. I was lucky that the mini screw drivers that I got at Harbor Freight included a phillips that was small enough. That made the job easy. Having a pry tool set from previous computers made the disassembly and reassembly easy and no scars in the plastic.

This was a great video, thank you. Our model was not identical, and had some signicant differences, but without this video I would likely not have pulled it off. Incidently our model is the K100. Long story short is the HDD that failed as a boot device was missing when I finally got the case opened from your great video. I scratched my head and searched for probably hour and a half, finding a bit more info from HP online docs. Also, I eventually decided I had to look for this HDD under the system board. About half hour later and searching for product ids online, I discovered the 256GB SSD attached to the system board. This after I'd ordered a replacement 1TB SSD. So, had to then order the HDD carriage as you shown, and 4 hours of careful reassembly screws and those PITA little cables it was back. The wireless module was a pain, when one of the little antennae cables came off. Eventually was able to snap that back in place after resecuring the module into the board/case, and also as would happen after I'd already ordered a replacement wireless dongle figuring that module was toast without a cable I wouldn't be able to fix. Only other challenge was the screw on the case preventing the optical drive from sliding back into place.

@nxsmotorsports11 ай бұрын
It only has one drive slot for a disk drive. However, you may be able to replace the optical drive with a bay that lets you connect another drive in its place. Btw, I was able to swap the drive and the WiFi module without removing any of the ribbon cables. The WiFi module in my laptop did not have Bluetooth nor 5ghz capabilities. Now it does! Good luck to you.

The 1/16inch flathead screwdriver completely f**ed it up for me. I went ahead and bought a $25+ precision tool kit... Ended up stripping the screw... Have to take it to a PC repair store now... All I wanted to do was to simply upgrade my RAM, to dual-channel 2x4GB DDR3L 1600mhz. I don't understand why they complicate things so much... Not only do you have to remove the motherboard and (almost) disassemble the whole laptop to install the RAM, but you have to get through complicated screws like this..... This has so wasted my day and time. Thanks for the video, though !

I’ve got a very similar laptop to this, but it’s the K110TX comes with an i7 4510U and an NVIDIA 840m, but as you said the HDD is absolute garbage. I’ve taken it apart multiple times trying to diagnose a power issue (happened to be the charger itself lol) so that won’t be a problem, but what sort of mid range SSD do you recommend for it? Looking at a 1TB if possible. Edit: I was just thinking about something like a Crucial MX500. They’re only $100 for 1TB here in Australia, so that’s not an expensive upgrade compared to the performance gain of an SSD over the 5400rpm drive in this thing at the moment.

+Marc-andré Major Here are some suggestions. In BIOS make sure that your SATA controller is set to AHCI or if there is an MSATA option select that because the slot may need to be activated. If the drive is not being recognized after those settings, try taking it out and putting it back in again. If you are getting the "no operating system found" error then the migration may have went wrong. Only things I can think of without more specific information. Hope it helps!Thanks for watching!

I did this but I'm having problems instaling the new operating system. I've tried to install win7, 8 and 10 and none will work. It won't let me format the ssd to allow install. Get multiple error codes. Won't delete either, wont install. Is there something in the BIOS that has to be changed?
@techtube38318 жыл бұрын
supreme84x The new drive should image with no problem, no bios settings needed. what size (in storage) is your new drive? First thing I would recommend is to check your connections again making sure that they are all seated properly.

Didn't see this reply in my email until now. Thanks for the reply TechTube. It turned out that it was a faulty SSD. Solidifed my hate for the PNY brand. I returned it, installed an EVO 850 and everything else went swingly.

hi, I wrecked two small screws under the CD player . how can I go now ? help!!!
@techtube38318 жыл бұрын
Use a pair of pliers to grab the edges of the screw head and twist it out that way. If you can't do it that way last resort would be to drill the screws out. Good luck, thanks for watching!

My only complaint is that you should've mentioned the hidden screw earlier, as it could confuse people who are hurrying

This was a real time disassemble, I didn't know about that screw until you saw me find it. Other than that, hope the video helped you out. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for ignoring the absolutely hardest part of the process: reconnecting the tiny little ribbon cables. Makes the entire video worthless if you can't put it back together.

Will I void the warranty if I do this?
@computerrebooter9 жыл бұрын
Whenever you open up the case on a laptop it does void the warranty.

+computerrebooter so in this case an HDD is not a user replaceable part? Hell, I got tired sending my laptop to HP warranty service. Those lamers wipe my HDD even when the issue is bloody obviously has nothing to do with it. I want to remove my HDD before sending the laptop to them. Backing the whole HDD up and restoring it takes enormous amount of time and may cause some data loss.

I cannot, for the life of me, remove the broadhead screws
@techtube38318 жыл бұрын
Josh Song If you completely strip the screws and can't get them with even the small flathead. take a pair of needle nose or other small plyers and try to grip the edge of the screw head and twist them out that way. I had to do this with one of those screws on mine.
