There is a thin plastic sheet below the damaged plastic between the plastic and the aluminum shell. You need scrape enough off to get a good surface for some JB Weld. I carefully removed enough of broken plastic so I can remove the thin material and get the the clean aluminum for good gluing. You need to leave enough to locate the hinge mount. I also keep the protective shell off the hinge so I can either adjust the tension, clean or lub the hinge! That way I don't need to remove the screen to get the shell off to clean. My son kept closing it, by habit, and finally kill the touch screen. I got a replacement screen for about $120 from ebay. At first I thought it was a bad screen as the touch wasn't working and I found the HID connector was just slightly pulled out at the end. The audio and video was working so I was easily fooled in to thinking it was a bad replacement. Anyway, always tape the connectors down. I don't know why they didn't use locking connectors as on the main board. (I'm now using duck tape but there are likely better tapes out there). With the covers off the hinges it isn't pretty. I figure it is no better or worse then the original design.
