Just a note to buyers: HP sells two different X360 15" devices with the 5700U/5500U- the 2020 model with a slightly different design and a numpad, and the 2021 model reviewed here, no numpad, speakers on the sides.

I'm seeing a few comments here about Zen 2 vs. Zen 3, etc. At the moment I am not seeing any laptops without discrete GPUs running with one of the Zen 3 based 5000 series Ryzens. If and when we do see one I'll definitely be talking about it more. I think it is confusing to the general consumers who watch these reviews to go into those weeds (especially since there isn't an available Zen 3 configuration) and these new chips do represent a measurable performance boost over the prior gen even with only being Zen 2. If you know of laptops under $1k that have a Zen 3 let me know and I'll try to get one in.

I just bought one, cost $1,030.62 , thats with my discount of $128.04. I choose amd vs intel, had to upgrade to AMD 7 5700U, 16gb ram, 400 nits monitor, and 512gb m.2 ssd. I think the harddrive is very close to spec to samsung evo. Stock on is amd5 or intel 5 with 8gb ram, 256 m.2 ssd and 250nits screen. I wanted a 2 in 1 with pen for around 1k. I looked around the other manufacture off it but older chip like 10 gen intel. I think it will be a very good laptop. Remember most stuff doesnt go on sale unless its old. So waiting doesnt matter. I am receiving the laptop in 2 weeks, can't wait! Even though its for my wife to mainly do documents and netflix. I wish it was a matte screen.. The laptop I would get for myself would be gaming but my wife want something she can use on the bed so this is perfect for her.
@matthewrickard50503 жыл бұрын
how was the gaming ?
@internalharm3 жыл бұрын
@@matthewrickard5050 i never tried gaming yet. I have a desktop for that. I heard the chipset video is pretty decent. AAA title game should performe 1080p at 60fps stable. This purpose for the 2in1 was more geared for document and media with decent gaming. Dont exspect 120fps at 2k. But it would work in a pinch, lucky i upgraded the ram so it helps out since it does not have a dedicated GPU but a shared one. To be honest if I had to change something, it would be the size. 17 in is a little big, 15 would be better for everyday carry. Good laptop if you do a lot of netflix and drawing and to game here and there.

@@internalharm my only concern is the speakers, is there a way to set it up so that it is not downward facing and muffled as the video mentioned?
@internalharm3 жыл бұрын
@@yarajahshan2584 The sound is better is good, not great becuase it is position in the back left and right side. Bad design flaw. But it is acceptable, a smidge hollow because of the location. When compairing sound quality to my bose earbuds, bose is a 9 in sound, laptop is a 7. It sounds good on a flat surface but on a bed it kinda sucks. It is pretty loud and i can live with the smidge hollow sound.

Apparently, HP used Lucienne parts as opposed to Cezanne due to the semiconductor shortage as Cezanne was planned for this unit. There aren't that many 5600U/5800U laptops. Also, I believe Hardware Unboxed did find one and did the benchmarks. You can refer to their channel for more. For many user's needs, Lucienne (5700U) at 25-28W (which this runs at) is more than enough power. I do think the price point should be around $700-$800

One thing I didn't see noted, the Ryzen 5700U is based on Zen 2 whereas the 5800U is based on Zen 3. The graphics hardware is very similar so you won't see much change there but the CPU performance will be even higher on the 5800U, 5800H, 5900HS, 5900HX, etc.

It's a good laptop, especially the Ryzen 7. However, I would advise against buying it. It has a recurring issue where the hinges become stiff and the screen pops out every 1 year, 6 months, or 2 years. You'll be left with the need to repair something that is completely unnecessary, with no warranty assistance. If possible, I recommend purchasing another laptop and having a Mac as a backup, as most of these laptops are not built to last. I apologize if you were excited about buying this laptop. I am currently using it and seeking help to fix an issue that is not my fault. Unfortunately, I find myself in this situation, but you have the opportunity to avoid this unnecessary problem.

Fantastic review! Would love to see your thoughts on the 5500u. The average person isn't buying this model and while it's great to see how powerful the 5700u is with 16 GB ram, HPs target audience isn't buying this $1,000 version when it starts at less than $700. It's hard for an everyday consumer to make a judgment without a more realistic comparison. Just my two cents.

Something Lon didn't mention in his review is that the Ryzen 5 5500U and 5700U are rebrands of the older Zen 2 uarch. They are not the newer improved Zen 3 uarch. The 5600U and 5800U are the Zen 3 parts, which are much more difficult to find at the moment. Not that the 5500/5700 are slouches, their Zen 2 4x00U parts were impressive. I also own an older iteration of the Envy x360, with a 3500U. My personal experience with it would lead to absolutely purchase a newer generation HP Envy, when it includes the Zen 3 skus.

I noted this in a previous review however the performance is improved nonetheless over the prior gen. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for the Zen 3 variants when/if available. So far we’re not seeing any outside higher end units.

@@LonSeidman I think they did tweak the clocks on the 5500/5700, taking advantage of some node improvements. Doesn't reach Zen 3 level performance, but they edge out their 4x00 parts. I really like my HP Envy, but I'm not going to spend a grand for a Zen2 rebrand.
