HP is blocking the use of third-party ink and cartridges in HP printers

Thank you so much Brent! Just like a week ago my printer stopped recognizing my tricolor cartridge (which yeah isn't HP original) and now I'm trying to save money to buy an original one unfortunately. Really scummy decision by HP and I hope they get enough backlash to reverse this situation. Please keep us updated on any news about this as it's really important!

the worse part is its has to go back as far as the engineering design, I hope another better company comes out to replace these idiots. Samsung did the same thing w their phones in some different way.

My HP printer is going to the recycling centre, will be buying a new printer and it will not be an HP!

Yes I was fortunate enough to read the small print with the latest firmware for my HP Pagewide Pro. I did not upload it. I do not have it set up to update automatically. It will be my last HP due to this development and also their sudden withdrawal of the Pagewide series of printers. Another company not to be trusted.

This makes for another reason why everyone hates printers. This should be illegal. Honestly, HP is going to lose this argument. Don’t be another Apple who locks down their products

As someone that make a lot of their money selling things on ebay, it's pretty inconvenient not being able to print out shipping labels...

This is HP's way to hold your printer for ransom, the payment being buying HP ink cartridges. Isn't this illegal? The firmware update got me yesterday.

Yepp. I have a P 1102W. And have updated the firmware some time ago. But it still printed before and after. But now. It will not. Incompatible toner it says. What a bummer. Not nice.

I'm a massive fan of HP's products - less so of some of the decisions made by the company. I've only ever bought HP laptops (It's been my experience that they are extraordinarily reliable in extremely difficult operating environments) - so I've always been very loyal to the brand. Currently I'm a foreigner in a country which is heavily sanctioned (on totally baseless grounds) by the US and find that HP has withdrawn all support for its customers in the country - even to the (very petty) extent of blocking the use of HP's (very useful) support assistant.... This type of action and what HP is now doing to its printer users just alienates its own customer base and many of HP's loyal customers will lose trust in the brand and they will go elsewhere when the time comes to buy new hardware.......

Dont buy HP, i bought an awesome printer that works great but prints like crap if you use third party ink. Anything i print comes out almost pure magenta, this started after an update.... third party printed perfectly before.... if I do a test print of the demo page the colors look amazing and crisp and vibrant. But anything i print from my pc or laptop prints out pink. I hope they get sued for this practice.
