Hey Andrew, as a blind follower of you, I really liked that you've red the Benchmark results in this video, they usually are as a chart and my screen reader software cannot read it for me. I hope you keep doing it for upcoming videos, or you also may consider putting them in the description, that way you don't have to say them out loud but for people like me, we can always review the description. Thank you for the excellent review, Andrew. I am catching up on videos, as I am working on projects around the apartment. Great to see AI 9 HX 375, the numbers are very impressive. The Radeon 890M graphics are very good, would like to see a higher nit count, better coverage of the color gamut, better black level, better white point. I agree that the I/O is lacking at least two ports. The refresh rate, in 2024, needs to be at least 90 Hz's. The price point is decent, for now. 88 percent score is very fair. Thanks. Have a great week.
@rafaelperez9652Ай бұрын
For the price point of this laptop, while it's not perfect and there are quite a few things missing, at the end of the day it's not really that bad if you're only going to be using it for emails, web browsing and the like. The webcam and the internal mics are good and so is the quality of the quad speakers. Unfortunately there's quite a few features that are noticeably missing on the HP OmniBook 14 (2024) but if you can live without it, then this laptop will suffice. Good to know that the Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 is giving Intel a run for the money! Thank you once again Andrew for your excellence!! 👏😁

I bought this model at $200 off open box from Best Buy. Coming from an old I5 Dell this is a race horse beauty. Yes you will want a dock ($100-$250) for it to use a monitor, wired ethernet and the extra thunderbolt/ USB stuff. I bought it because of Paul Thurott's review and to dip my toe into the AI world. For some reason initial setup was clunky getting Win11 running and updated. I almost returned it as defective. It seemed to be trying to do too many conflicting updates at once. But hey, what else is new with the Redmond stuff not acting right. But after all settled down it is a solid machine. Plenty of horsepower, so far impressive battery life and the 32GB & 2TB hard drive are very nice to have. IMHO if you are a road warrior gamer (I am not) it will do nicely, but for the hard core addict I would look at the HP with the upgraded OLED display. For the money you would be hard pressed to get this much and the Ryzen Ai 9HX 375 / 890M any cheaper. You will probably want to dump all the crapware HP throws in, but I have been doing that to new PC's since Win 3.1. My only complaint is with HP shrinking the vertical up/ down keys and learning to use their way of clicking "home". But I will be used to it soon enough. PS: Finally having some good speakers (4 of them) is icing on the cake.

Nice pc. Camera and mics are good. Speakers sounded good. Display good. This appears to be a blend to the Spectre and Envy line. Screen wobble noticed. They should have put one of the USB-C ports in the upper left corner and add a micro SD card slot in place of the USB-C port on the right side. Battery life is good. I would still take this over any snapdragon processor because of compatability any day. Great review.

Also mention the low display brightness or the large display edges on the HP. It makes the device look clunky and the display smaller than it actually is. That's why I didn't keep the device. But the video doesn't mention this.
@Noisy_CricketАй бұрын
The lack of ports on this thing is damn near criminal. You need to a least have an HDMI port. And they also need to add an SD card port for convenience. You shouldn't have to carry around a conversion hub for a $1K plus laptop. That's tablet behavior.
@michaelxz1305Ай бұрын
all laptops have compromises and you don't need a hub, you can buy a tiny dongle which is shaped not to block the adjacent port (if there is one, I didn't pay attention on this viideo) .. but I have one for display port.. it's tiny.. usb c to displayport. all laptops have compromises, this laptop is the best thing in the 14" under 2000 euro class that I have seen for sale imo but sure I don't care about > 60hz screens. Anyhow all I'm saying is I'm glad this laptop exists.. hdmi port would be nice but it's such a minor thing - and I'm speaking as someone who carries around a 17" portable monitor connected by HDMI when I travel

The new generation of AMD and Intel chips have begun to close the gap with Apple for battery life. There also isn't a compelling reason to buy the Snapdragon, especially if you use apps that have ARM to x86 compatibility problems. If higher end Windows laptops ship with speakers as good as the Macbook Pro 16 and as good a touchpad ( Sensel seems to be setting a good direction here), then we will have a great new generation of laptops.

Personally, while I think this is a pretty good option, I would change a few things for a future iteration: 1. Give us a 64 GB of RAM option. I know some people (such as users of VMs) that can eat through 32 GB with just a few VMs, maybe just two! 2. Come on HP, give us another USB-A, USB-C, SD, microSD, HDMI, or another port; two Thunderbolt USB-C, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and one USB-A isnt terrible, but it could be better. 3. 60 hz for the price? Really HP!? At least give us OLED or Mini-LED or an option for a higher refresh rate screen! And that's really it. Personally, while I liked HP's haptic touchpad on this year's Spectre 14 (and the MacBooks since 2015 have been also amazing in terms of touchpads), not all haptic touchpads are good. For examples, Dell's touchpads on the 2024 XPS laptops are among the worst I've ever used. Apart from the accessiblity nightmare from not having visual borders (such as a lit up surface) or one you can feel, the click feels really bad, like something you'd get on a cheap gaming laptop. So I'll take an excellent traditional touchpad over a terrible haptic touchpad.
@pixelpusher1393Ай бұрын
Agree 100% about the 32GB RAM limit - there should be a standard 64GB option for all laptops with the Lunar Lake/AMD AI 9 CPUs. Among other reasons, the new iGPUs are no longer limited in their RAM usage, as was the case with older iGPUs. I´m pretty sure though it´s just a question of time until 32GB becomes standard, and 64GB the higher option.
@Noisy_CricketАй бұрын
I think people who need 64MB of RAM on a laptop are too niche at this point for HP to put the effort in for this. Bringing back the concept of ramdisks but for virtual memory would get more milage here imho. Virtual ram via thunderbolt 4 could probably work. Thunderbolt 4's max data transfer rate (excluding video) is roughly equivalent to DDR @400 speed.

That 60Hz screen is what kills it for me. And no option to configure a better screen either? For a ProBook class laptop it would be fine, but this... Btw I don't think the CPU can support more than 2 usb4/tb4 ports, at least according to AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) specs.
