That bad feeling to scrach the screen is very understandable as "it could have been a good new one!"

1:35 Tip it's easier if you start near the exhaust, also from what I can tell these elite/pro books are all put together and have roughly the same design, so once you you've opened one you can be fairly confident working on different ones.

I love a screen replacement from a repair perspective because it's straightforward but I always use plastic tools just in case. I hate having to buy a replacement replacement because I can't bill the customer for my mistakes although I do warn customers that sometimes the screen bezel can break no matter how careful I am. I can only remember breaking one or two over a 25 year career and hundreds of screen replacements, it pays to take your time and because I only ever work on an hourly rate I'm not under any pressure to rush. That doesn't mean I'm billing people 9 hours for a screen replacement, it takes between 1 to 2 hours under normal circumstances and I bill half hourly or even every 15 minutes if it's mates rates or I feel sorry for my broke customers.

In regards to taking the part numbers of the original panel, it's worth noting if the panel has various revisions. I got caught out by this just recently. Ordered a replacement for an XYZ rev 4. panel, whose replacement was marked as "Compatible with XYZ panel." When the replacement arrived however, it was actually a rev. 6, so all the screw holes were in the wrong place. Ended up ordering the replacement elsewhere, which listed compatibility with the specific revision.

Done watching, thank you very much for the informative repair video. I have learned significantly more troubleshooting & repair lessons in this tutorial video and to your other repair videos as well compared to my ENTIRE 4 YEARS OF COLLEGE due to the rotten & outdated standards of education here in the Philippines. I hope you will soon have a mini-series for Schematic & Boardview-free Voltage/Power Rail Tracing[12V/18-20V Main Voltage Rail, 5V, 3.3V, CPU/GPU Core Voltage Rail, DRAM Voltage Rail, IGPU Voltage Rail, System Agent/Northbridge Voltage Rail, PCH Voltage Rail, BIOS Voltage Rail, Battery Power Rail], Proper method of testing/checking of potentially faulty MOSFETs & ICs/Controller Chips, CPU/GPU/PCH Reballing and BIOS Bin File Editing.

I do screens replacements every day. Yes they have become harder, disconnecting build-in battery's, removing the display assembly. Glued bezels and screens (i use a headplate and little bit of alcohol), many variations in screens (one screen type could have different widths, resolutions etc) A lot more work than the old days! Just gotta charge more. Scratching the old screen on purpose is a little risky, imagine the customer wanted the old screen back, would make you look bad (Dont ask how i know ) 😅

Very sound advice about looking for the panel model from the panel itself. Often more / better results and cheaper than going by the laptop's model.

If the screen is still useable, or you have a second monitor you can hook up to the laptop you can see the exact LCD model you have. You go to Device Manager > Monitors > select laptop LCD > Details > and under Hardware IDs it will tell you the exact LCD inside your laptop.

I handle these probooks at work, typically use an ifixit opening pick at the top and that gets it started, also love the captive screws on them. not too bad of a machine, ive dealt with worse HPs

I have the G10 version of this laptop. Prying it is easier when you start at the vent side of the laptop. Now I also know how to replace the display because it looks basically the same as my G10 Edit: Also, just a heads up. The B140HAN07.1 is a way better replacement panel for these. It has 16M colors and 98% sRGB coverage

I've just had a query about a repair on a new HP where the hinge has bust the screen completely on the left. This laptop is fairly new and spare parts are expensive but even I was shocked at the cost of this screen as it needs the whole back panel, screen, hinges, digitiser and so on, crazy money... I've seen them at 4-500 because it's a thin and light laptop which is where the problem has arisen, there isn't enough back panel for the hinge screws to grip securely. This leads to flex and eventually breakage so my customer has had it converted to a desktop laptop with no screen.

@preston9636 ай бұрын
Didn't you read my comment?... The screen removal was painful to watch, those stupid tabs will break if patients isn't used personally I hate them but a good drowning in IPA does really help, you had me screaming at the screen in frustration . Cheers from OZ.
@Adamant_IT6 ай бұрын
But none of them broke... IPA will stop glue from re-sticking, but doesn't make the tabs any easier/harder...
