Good to see HP promoting repair, and increasing the longevity of their devices. This is totally the opposite of Apple products, which are based on an anti repair policy.

Are the step similar with the 865 which is the AMD version ? I'm not expecting a 100% identical repairs since it's not the same processor/socket, but i want to judge the repairability of the 865. There isnt much resources on the internet, iFixit doesnt have a guide yet. I'm interested in the most essential like battery / ram / M.2 , and hopefully it's as simple as the 860 models

How many M2 SSDs can it take? I want to replace the 1TB SSD with a 4 TB one. I would want to retain the original 1TB to make it a total of 5TB SSDs assuming that it has two M2 slots?!

How do you replace the keyboard. Is removing the system board and battery good enough or do you need to remove everything? Is it part of the palm rest?

There is a huge bug on current Elitebook generation. I checked 860 model in detail and it doesn't allow you to upgrade or even replace RAM even by user manual it should be possible by customer. I tested it with different 860s, different RAM brands. Even replacing the originally built-in 16 GB Samsung 4800 MHz DDR5 single rank by exact the same but new on - it doesn't work. Num and Caps Lock always blinking 5x which means memory issue. I'm IT technican and tried reallly everything. CMOS reset doesn't help. It is blocked by HP even it should be replacable by customer. The funny point ist, that 860 (Intel CPU) and 865 (AMD CPU) are the same laptops just with different CPUs and 860's user manual says RAM upgrades are "customer self-Service" and 865's user manual says "only by authorized HP service". It is a huge bug HP, fix it ASAP!

PS - I'm IT technican and tried reallly everything. CMOS resets dont help. Disabling TPM, Bitlocker, updating/reseting bios, checking bios settings or factory reset neither.

@HPSupport: I contacted the HP support and even they can't upgrade RAM. HP.. Shame of you as you selling laptop as customer self-upgradable but at first it is not possibile and secondly it looks like not possibile in general as even HP can't/wan't do IT!

I think I ran into the same issue with the 860 G9 16" but got it working, if you leave it for about 5 minutes after it does the keyboard flashes, the fan revs up it does eventually boot. I upgraded from 8GB to 2x 8GB (using HP branded samsung RAM). I did also try unplugging RTC battery connector and main battery to flush the motherboard settings.

@@mrh7731 congrats, I didn't have this luck as I did the same for above 30 min after RAM upgrade and it never wanted to boot again. Even I remove the the RAM and move back to the original configuration

Man I really hope the RAM slots arent locked down, if it is locked down then why not just solder them to remove the illusion of repair and upgrade?
