@@bigal878 I'm an electrician, but I've been doing up and working on cars for 30 plus years. I'm no where near perfect at it, but I love doing it and I'm always willing to learn new skills.

The fuel gauge sender in all GTS must have a red sticker not white

Davo, I take it that your standard Belmont dash panel allready had the openings in it to accept the additional two smaller guages?

The steel frame behind the plastic facia, on all models should have the smaller openings for gauges.

I have a HQ kingswood basic car with electronic distributor. I want to add the GTS dash and need to know how to wire the tacho up. Kingswood HQ most certainly did not come with a tacho. Is it as simple as almost all tacho where one wire goes to the negative of coil and that's that? I'm confused as some say direct wire to coil neg. Some say need some mods. Cheers

I've got an electronic distributor as well, works perfectly connected to the negative side of the coil

@@davohq1724 Sounds good, thanks mate. I wonder why some have said that electronic distributor doesn't work with mechanical GTS tach meter, which were meant for points type distributor.

@@hmayerv8 No idea. I'm using a Bosch eletronic conversion. With optical pickup.

Got another question for you mate. Would you happen to know the ohms for the fuel gauge as well as the fuel float/sender?
@davohq17242 жыл бұрын
Not sure. I had problems matching my sender to the fuel gauge. Someone on Facebook told me that if the gauge was made after 74, then it uses a Thermal sender. But it didn't work!! All I know is that if your fuel gauge has a earth strap then it will use the Magnetic type sender.
@hmayerv82 жыл бұрын
@@davohq1724 How come you're having problems matching the sender to the gauge? Thought you'd be hooking up to the HQ sender and should work. Have you figured out the problem yet? Mine's a pain coz someone along the way modded a fuel cell and used some China made universal sender and universal fuel gauge , hence the issues I'm having. I'm changing the whole dash back to GTS and I have the whole complete set with all gauges. But the sender would be the problem matching the HQ fuel gauge. I don't want to do anything just yet until I replace the whole wiring harness first.

Hqs have 2 types of senders. Thermal and Magnetic. I sorted mine out. My GTS Fuel gauge uses the Magnetic sender as I bought the Thermal one and it didn't read properly.

@@davohq1724 That's great mate, but honestly, I do not understand Thermal and Magnetic sender. I always thought they were just senders with different ohms for GM, Ford etc

From the pics, they look exactly the same. Perhaps the internal contact area differs
