Jackson Crawford, saying Skaði with "excellent pronunciation", is definitely worth checking out for anyone who wants to go deeper in Old Norse pronunciation rather than Modern Icelandic, and he regularly posts videos in which he discusses Old Norse culture, language, and various readings from the Eddas (he's published bilingual Old Norse - English versions of the Prose and Poetic Edda as well, I think). And every so often he'll post videos explaining some of the differences between the two languages as well (both in terms of pronunciation, but also in grammar) which is always useful :D

This was brilliant. Many thanks. I'm enjoying learning the different sounds of the Icelandic alphabet (turning 50 shortly but it's never too late). If I can one day do the alveolar trill (roll the 'r') then I think the other sounds like the consonant combinations will follow. I've been learning these sounds from videos but they're very tricky so actually doing them escapes me thus far. We don't have many of these Icelandic sounds in Britain so there are a lot glottal/buccal gymnastics to be done! I won't ever be fluent but the final destination doesn't matter as it's the journey that matters.

3:20 - There's a town i Sweden named after the saint _Helen of Sköfde,_ which is known to mean ”Skade”. In swedish we like to switch the endings with an _-i_ with an _-e_ for some reason. Also after the jotun-godess Skadi (Skade). To day the town is called Skövde, with a crunshing sje-sound (aweful german imported prenounciation). _Skada_ in swedish also mean ”damage” in english. Which is kind of funny =]

Such a beautiful language. I find that certain words and pronunciations are similar to Portuguese, like Valkyria is exactly how we pronounce and write it. The Celtic people of Lusitania, which was the ancient name for the region of Portugal and Spain, which was on the west of the Iberian Peninsula, might have the same ancestry as the Vikings. In 12.000 BC the land was much different and sea level was much lower, Ireland, Portugal,Spain and England were all connected by land. Mankind is just one big family with beautiful diversity. I love the Viking and Celtic mythology and folklore. Thank you so much for sharing.
