No doubt there are a lot of people who were introduced to the 1911 through airsoft guns or playing video games. Nothing wrong with that, of course. But there's an enviable level of credibility that comes along being able to say you were issued one of these as a Marine. :-)

@@hrfunk You are indeed fortunate. M1911 was the first pistol I ever qualified with. Unfortunately; though, that was when I was a Midshipman (1984)....by the time I became a Marine Officer (1988), the M9 had taken the field and I'd go on to carry that gun throughout my 30 years. It did its job. Having said that, one of the first pistols I bought, after retirement, was a 1944 Remington Rand M1911. There never was, and still isn't, anything like it.

I have one and have about 2000+ rounds through it, it's knackered and worn with original parts still holding up. I've had no failure to feed or eject issues other than one on the first day from a stiff new magazine (failure to feed the last round) that came with it but that broke in quickly. It's been used every weekend and is hugely reliable. I paid $386 new from Classic Firearms ... can't beat this buy. I've used Wilson Combat mags and an auto ordnance stainless mag as well as another Magcar blued mag. All have worked flawlessly in it. I would imagine that vintage ones with good feed lips would work perfectly as well.

I was born in 81 so my experience is limited to what i saw in TV shows as a child. From stallone in Cobra, to Magnum P.I. the 1911 or Colt 45 as I knew it then was very visible. As an adult I've shot a lot of 9mm. 38 special. .357 which I love but I was intrigued and excited to borrow a friend's 1911 at the range to shoot a real 45! After i fired every round I looked at my friend and said. I have to get one. 5 days ago I did! I love my Sig P226...but I'm falling in love with this Tisas 1911

These pistols are an amazing value for a 1911A1. I got mine pre-pandemic for $300 and it shoots tight groups just like yours. I recommend Hogue double diamond rosewood grips, they look and feel awesome. My safety has a little slop as well and will engage partially in the half cock position. Chip McCormick mags work in this pistol.

My issued 1911, when shaken, sounded like a "box of marbles". My last (1974) IG Inspection went very very bad for our gun locker. The IG Armorer "surveyed" all but 16 of our .45's. From the Inspection in Aug. until I discharged in early Oct. none of the 56 surveyed pistols had been replaced. LONG LIVE THE (MEMORY) OF THE 5811 MOS.

The Tisas 1911A1 .45 ACP pistol is as good as any other .45 auto. The innerds are the same as a Colt series 70. It takes hollow points when WW2 pistols may only take ball ammo. The ejector port is lower ( better ) and the hammer is slightly wider. The parkerizing leaves a lot to be desired, because it is too thin and scuffs quickly. They need to put on a thicker coat or apply 2 coats. Aside from that, I'm totally thrilled with it and it'll be my carry gun from now on. My Baby Browning is my back-up, so I'm covered.

I've read that the pistol you speak of has a forged receiver and a chrome line barrel, were that the case you got a heck of a lot of firearm for a reasonable price. If Colt would ever come after high horse and start offering a blued 1911a1 or 1911 for around 500 bucks in a parkerized version in either Matt gun and gray or OD Green, people would be buying them. I remember back in 1991 when they unceremoniously just suddenly announced out of the clear blue that they would not be making the original Government Model any longer. They released a cyborg called the" 1991 A1", it had a plastic flat mainspring housing of the original 1911, a 1911 A1 trigger although made of solid plastic, and sites that were anything special but they were big enough to actually use, combined with a matte blue finish. Besides the fact that this tried to be the 1911 and the 1911 they wanted at the same time displeasing residents of both camps, it added insult to injury by having a series 80 safety. It tried to impersonate one of the most toughest durable combat handguns ever made, by giving it the glass jaw of the series 80 safety. As they say, when you try to please everyone you end up pleasing no one. I've heard it said that that pistol, The 1991 A1, was just a series 80 with a 7 round magazine wearing a pair of fatigues. I could not agree more. I own one briefly and I got rid of it very soon afterwards.

@@karlhaber1904 Hey, Karl ! I would've thought it readily apparent by looking at the barrel whether or not it was chrome lined. Frankly, I don't see it. I'll look for my paperwork for the gun and see what they say. As soon as I heard the Colt 1991 had a plastic trigger, I blocked that gun out of my memory. I have what was a non-fired Remington Rand 1911A1 .45 service pistol brought back from the Phillipines by a soldier who's job it was to throw crates of brand new .45s overboard at the end of the war. YES, OVERBOARD ! He was able to snag one and took it home, but guilt caused him to put it in an ammo can for almost 50 years until he died. His wife gave it, and others, to his best friend, who offered it to me for little money. I've fired a box of 50 through it, so its not unfired, but it's in beautiful condition still. The only other .45 I would want is a Colt 1911A1 Mk lV series 70 recently mfg'd before CZ got ahold of them. Otherwise, my shooter will continue to be the Tisas.

@@williamgunnarsson Honestly, I got that information about the pistol you have from Turkey possessing a chrome line barrel off a gun review done online by someone who supposedly was was test firing one he was talking up the quality and when he said"I forged ", and " chrome line barrel" in the same sentence, regarding the same pistol, I was paying attention. . The Remington ran you had was a chance of a lifetime. I had a co-worker about 30 years ago in Seattle he also had a World War II issue Remington ran in it that was a sweet pistol that he uses his carry gun at that time. The Logistical .Nightmare of taking everything we had shipped over but hadn't used yet, back to The United States as The US military was being rapidly deconstructed, and most of its members discharged without all the problems associated with it, caused The US government to do some STUPID AND WASTEFUL Things. @@karlhaber1904 Hello again Karl ! One of my gunsmiths, Rudy Crumbley, had joined the army in 1938 and wound up staying until 1947. He was a true warrior and volunteered after the war was over, to go into the jungles to clean up the Japanese stragglers that refused to surrender. At first, he brought back prisoners, but his CO told him that they were no longer combatants, but outlaws, and told him not to bring any of them back. He and his platoon went from one side of the Mindanau jungle to the other killing every Nippon soldier they found. He told me that even brand new unused bulldozers we're dropped off of cliffs after the war. He said that NOTHING in his area was kept. He said guns, ammunition, vehicles of every description, any other equipment you can think of, was either destroyed or left with the " powers that be " on every island in the Pacific Theater.

I was introduced to the 1911A1 by my Army Chaplain in 1988 yes he was a Army Chaplain and super cool. We would go shooting on the weekends at Ft. Carson he could not carry a weapon as a Non-Combatant but for a man of the cloth he was a great shot and could teach shooting as well a the Bible, Thanks Chaplain Quinn. I still shoot 1911's and this channel is done well with good information.

Once again HR kudos for another great video. I too have a TISAS 1911 GI model. I've had mine for over 2 years now. I've put nothing but reloads in mine. I've loaded Hornady 200 grain XTP bullets over Bullseye powder, 230 grain round nose lead and jacketed bullets with zero malfunctions. Accuracy is very good would be better with nicer sights, I'm almost 66 so my vision is not that good anymore. I use 8 round shooting star Chip McCormick magazines in mine. Also SARCO sells 1911 wood grips with the double diamonds, I payed less than $13 for them shipping and all, they gave me a law enforcement discount even though I'm retired since 2014. The TISAS 1911 GI model quality is way better than it's price suggests. Thank you for this video.

Many of us Veterans want to have a real deal issue CMP 1911 however there are many Veterans who just cannot afford the extravagant cost of such. This $400.00 price range Tisas 1911 looks just right all around. Affordable for most Veterans. I would like to see a 1911 Govt version offered with a rail for illumination devices. I'm surprised no one caught the widened ejection port. 😎 My 'GI' stand-in is a Kahr/Auto-Ordnance pistol I picked up in the '00s. NIcely parkerized, it has the wider ejection port and angled angled slide serrations; some other differences were a white barrel hood (since darkened), a long trigger and 'teardrop' thumb safety--both of which I quickly corrected. I'm also kicking around getting a 'correct' slide. BTW, it was great to see the cammies with the iron-on EGA and no Lost & Found name and service tapes. 😄

Happy you bought this and gave it a review, I trust your findings. I bought a Turkish 1911(stainless with all the bells and whistles inc rail)before the insanity. The reason for purchase, it was too nice to pass up at $450 from CDNN. It remains as new in box, clean with less than 100 rounds. I didn't find anything to complain about either, but the Turkish firearms seem to have some kind of stigma. If anyone has a real reason, please let me know.

I was issued the M1911A1 in the 80s. My USAF match gun had a Remington slide, Colt frame, and upgraded sights and trigger. I've had commercial Colts from stock to "combat package" upgrades by Clark. The Tisas are good guns. Good materials and well made. I have one in 9 minimeter that came with a chromed fully ramped bbl, black Cerakote finish, lowered/flared ejection port, beveled mag well, and a good trigger for hundreds less than a Colt, SA, or Kimber. It runs great. Works fine with MecGar and Metalform mags. The gun snobs will get over imported 1911s; I remember when they did not trust Austrian tupperware either.

The 1911A1 pistol I was issued in the Corps was made by Remington Rand Type writer company sometime back in the 1940s I think. It was well worn and rattled like a box of rocks when I ran with in the shoulder holster issued to us Tankers. I di score Expert for the 3 years I qualified with it. That pistol looks great

I had a Remington Rand in Japan. If I remember correctly, they made the second most 1911s during WWII. I believe Colt made the most.

I was issued a Remington in Germany, mid 80s during the period that saw the transition to the M9 Baretta. We were probably the last US component of NATO to use the 1911A1 and for a short duration were given the choice of which one we wanted to qualify with. I was able to keep mine until Desert Storm and i also always scored expert with that old rattlebox.

Truly a great video, Howard, and the humor makes it so - THANK YOU. I need another 1911A1 like . . . so, I won’t buy one. But if I did, I’d really be happy to have one - great value, performance, quality and accuracy for the price! In essence it really is a fine, military service 1911A1. No, it’s not a Wilson or a Bear - nor is it designed and manufactured to be one - however, it definitely is a completely credible 1911A1. The quality in its material and production obviously are excellent and the accuracy is factually better than the 1911A1’s I was issued (and, in my hands, fundamentally equal to my Springfields and Kimber). I, too, was honesty impressed with everything about this firearm. As for the current “tactical operators,” bottom-level Winchester White Box 230 grain FMJs are century-demonstrated man-stoppers, this 1911A1 will surely be plenty accurate and very reliable, and if 9+1 is insufficient capacity then your planning, strategy and tactics are massively screwed-up (civilian lawful defensive applications, only).

I dreamt of having an original 1911 my entire life. There’s no way I could ever afford one until TISAS cane along. I watched many videos of professionals testing this handgun. I’m proud to own this model no matter what others say.

Just info; The snap on the ammo' flap is called 'Lift The Dot', the snap that holds the pouch to the pistol belt is the 'Pull The Dot' type, both are patterned and registered trademarks. Those 'Lift' fasteners were also used on Model T tops and such, been around a long time.

First of all, thank you and your family for your sacrifice and service. Secondly, I have the tisas 1911CSS45R and the tisas d10 10mm. I had issues with the wilson mags and the factory mags but the guns were awesome. I sent all my mags to Ed brown and participated in his mag exchange for all Ed browns. Now I run flawlessly and swear by my tisas. Like some, I'm not a huge fan of the country thst they are manufactured but I also have canik pistols and I can say with all honesty, they run perfectly. My friend says thst my 1911CSS45R shoots just as good as his springfield operator but way less price. Nice video

I think you meant a Colt 1911A1 Series pistol. JMB, I doubt would have thought it would end up in a so called 1970 or 1980 series of his pistol. I am sure you can take a Dremel and polish the barrel ramp to help the issues. I wish ALL 1911s came with the lanyard loop. You are Corps trained: 1 in the pistol and two in the mag pouch. All mags with 5 rds each. Nice to communicate with another old MC Barracks guy. Former Marine Barracks Los Angeles (Hollywood Marines), Long Beach. I have noticed, my orientation as well: Mozambique drills. My slabsides model has some nicer curves: Sig 1911, a beauty but alas, no lanyard loop. You keep bringing back memories. Another great review. My father was a Marine, two tours in Vietnam and he managed to smuggle home his 1911 a-1 that he carried as a radio man. All I know is that gun saved his life twice. I grew up shooting that pistol. So I bought the Tisas 1911a-1 US Army. 300 rnds and counting and it’s been great. Thanks for another great eval.

Wow!!! You took me back to the 1960's USN. A few years ago, I bought a Springfield Armory m1911a1 GI model, used for $500.00, for the same nostalgia reasons. My wife didn't understand why I replaced the very pretty wood stocks with Bakelite grips. The roll marks are not accurate, but other than that, I don't see any discrepancies, at least that I can remember from well over half a century ago. As I understand, Auto Ordinance makes an even more accurate clone, with correct roll marks, but the parkerization is a bit off as to color. I don't know how they compare in quality and price to the Tisas.

In 2017 I bought an auto ordinance 1911 with a black oxide finish. This pistol is fantastic. They're made in Yonkers New York and I'm glad I got them when they were $250 cheaper than they are now.

I'm one of those nut bags who reads about something for 2 years before you ever buys one LOL 😆. One of the things I read about before purchasing mod ordinances that the World War II parkerization came in several different colors. The traditional olive drab green parkurization, hey Matt almost gray gunmetal Blue, Gray, and the black oxide finish that I have on my current one. I will say though that the black oxide model has really smooth clean even break on the trigger. Any 1911 and 45 ACP, is cool for the same way having a '57 Chevy or 65 mustang is cool. My go-to guy at the local range, shared with me that the customized 45s have a tendency to break down a lot and not have a long life to them. When I picked his brain on the subject a few years back he said the 45s that do the best on his range are generally the mil-spec ones are the toughest they last longest. This conversation did not occur while I was in the process of buying or wanting to buy anything from him I just was there casually at the range and picked his brains he had no agenda for saying one over the other he just was giving it to me straight. If I name names on the brand names it would blow your mind as to how many manufacturers are out there that offer custom this or custom that and all we really get is a flimsy ,high maintenance, POJ.

These guns have to be the best bang for your buck on the market right now. (Maverick 88’s used to be) I got one of these as well and changed out all the springs to Wilson combat. I also put a Colt custom shop sear spring and reproduction Colt 1911a1 hammer on it to look a little more authentic and get less hammer bite(I had to get a colt hammer strut pin as well because the stock one is too thick, only a couple bucks). I put new old stock USGI grips on it like you said you may do to yours. They look and feel better. The hammer I got from numerich’s website for $24, that paired with the Colt custom shop sear spring(on Wilson combat website for $9) really gave it a good trigger. And a little dab of white paint on the front sight. Less than $60 really makes it that tiny bit more authentic looking and a better shooter. Ammo prices need to come back down because I basically shot up all my 45 over the last couple years because of how fun it is to take this gun to the range. Just under 2,000 rounds or so and and it’s been awesome. I even picked up a pile of old cheap post WWII USGI mags to shoot it with. I hope you have as much fun with your gun as I’ve had with mine so far.

I have two Remington Rand military 1911’s. Also, an Ed Brown 1911. This Tisas looks pretty good if you just want one, and don’t have any others already. Appears to be a good replica of the originals, especially for the price.Colt made several “snake” guns…Cobra, Python, and the .45 1911, the”rattler.”

1911s are addictive...I bought one of the Tisas models like yours about a year ago and I have to say, it is a really nice pistol. It fits in with my "civilian" 1911s very well...I did switch out the plastic grips for some Herrett's wood grips that are identical. I wasn't issued a 1911, being in the Air Force we carried S&W Model 15s. I really wanted a 1911 back in those days...My first 1911 back in the early 70s was a surplus Colt 1911, it wasn't very accurate, rattled something fierce,,but I loved it. I carried it quite often in the mountains of Wyoming and Colorado.

I would love to own a Colt 1911. However, I cannot justify the $ right now. I'm on the lookout for discontinued Smith & Wessons of similar platforms. I think Colts are over priced. Would I buy a Colt Python? No. I prefer a S&W over a Colt.

Just picked one up, this week. Tisas now has the Full Checkered Walnut Grip Set that you can order on their website, without the double diamonds which is more like the standard issue grips. The parkerized finish on this gun is just absolutely flawless ! I have about 200 rounds through it, so far. Perfect function. Also, HR they must have listened to you. Mine came with two magazines !

I bought one of these through Bud's gun shop online. It's one of the best gun purchases if not THE best deal I ever got. Turkish gunsmiths are every bit as good as any American or European gunsmith. I've always known about their fine craftsmanship and attention to detail plus their use of high-quality steel. Another way to test a 1911, is to point the weapon strait up and cock the hammer on an EMPTY chamber and shake it left to right. If it is tight, it won't rattle, if not, it will rattle like a baby's toy and through bullets everywhere but on the target. If you're looking for a good basic and accurate 1911 at a reasonable price, Tisas is the way to go. They also make fine Hatsan air-rifles too!

I carried the 1911a1 in the Army. At Army MP School at Fort McClellan Alabama, several of my instructors were Marines. Yes, we had a Platoon of Marines integrated in our training company. In fact, my Battle Buddy was a Jarhead. I miss Boyd, that guy was pretty awesome. Personally, I'd like my own 1911a1, but I'd really like it in 9mm.

I have a Turkish Market version of TISAS 45 1911A1 Government also. Currently, pistol is being sold with 2 CheckMate US made 7 rounds magazines and a blue hard plastic box. Price around 440$ (added tax and 2 mag) with 2 years guaranty. I think it's a good deal. note: Turkish Market Version means: Serial numbers stamped on 3 area: barrel, slide and lower body frame. & only ZIG M1911 written on frame left (not Model M1911 US Army)

Seems like a good one! For a person looking for a bargain 1911 A1 clone I suppose it's a viable way to go. IMHO and at the end of the day....... the only way to go for me is the real McCoy. Yes, they are beat up, worn and have mismatched parts sometimes but I like the fact that I am holding a piece of history that was used by brave soldiers defending our Country. yes I know they are a premium, but there are only a limited number available these days. That said, I do agree for a $400 pistol it's HARD TO BEAT! A great knock around plinker for those who own a real one and don't want too much it too much. A great pistol for those who just can't pony up the high price of a real USGI version. There are not too many new $400 pistols worth a damn around anymore - this one looks good. PS: Your Elmer Fudd imitation was hilarious (a little Funky) - and good to see someone still has a sense of humor these days!

Got mine a few months back. Put off buying because of recoil on these old hands, but after firing a high point 45 pistol ( ha ha ). Being a heavy gun I noticed it greatly reduced the recoil. I took the leap and got the tisan 1911. It came with a mec gar mag and I purchased an auto ordnance 7 round, both run perfect, great deal! Thank you for your service.

I bought one of these about 18 months ago. I have more than a few 1911s including a 1918 manufactured "black" 1911 . My great uncle brought it back from France in 1919. It is so close to a "Real" 1911-A1 that any difference is totally insignificant and trivial. I am glad I bought this. Best $330. 00 I've ever spent on a handgun.

The safty issue you speak of is not that the safty pops out of its detent. Rather that it over travels it. This is very common on many modern 1911 A1 style safeties. Even the EGW ones i have tried have this issue. A not very common fix is it drill a tying hole in the back of the safty where it engages the frame and install/weld a pin in its place. Then file it to fit as a stop for the safety to prevent the overtravel. It’s a labor intensive procedure for a minor issue but really adds that something extra to custom builds when the customer wants that style safety.

It’s a silly one but… It is TONS easier to teach a “safe action” semi-pistol to a novice over the 1911. Or, for that matter, anything with external safeties. (Pistol wise) even the XD line of Fantastic Plastic would be out of my choice. Also, it would have to be 9mm. Other than a large bore rifle caliber pistol, there are no one shot stops in the pistol.

I just checked my M1911a1 Remington-Rand Inc (mfg 1944) you're correct, the magazine well is not beveled but is flat, straight across....The Rand trigger serrations are near like yours, as is the hammer spur....the plastic grips are darker on my "as issued" one.....an interesting note is that there were 4 or 5 companies that made the Govt model M1911a1 and that the trigger, hammer, mag release, slide lock, safety as well as the arch housing have different patterns which make it unique to the collector....I was a Senior Small Arms Repairman in the Army

Loved the opening with Elmer 😋 ... thanks for the vid. My only 45 auto was the Colt Series 70 that I purchased back in late 1977. It used to eject brass straight back to my forehead. Had a gunsmith work on it. He enlarged the ejection port, throated & polished the barrel/feed ramp, and beveled the mag well. Shot great then. Carried on duty in a Bianchi forward rake holster. Cocked & locked, of course.

I bought my Tisas series 70 1911A1 in 2015. Differences with yours includes the finish - black - and an extended thumb safety. In fact, mine is identical to the one Hickok45 reviewed in 2013. I much prefer the GI type nub safety. I replaced the grips with nice double diamond checkered panels. I also touched up the trigger. It's been a reliable and accurate pistol that I enjoy shooting.

When I was a young paratrooper, I was issued a WW2 era 1911 just before boarding a 141 leaving for Grenada. I found out while on the island, that old 1911 wouldnt hit the side of a barn with my nose pressed against it. I took a length of paracord, tied one end to the lanyard and the other to my belt loop and belt, and kept it tucked under my belt. It was a very easy carrying pistol, never got in the way and was not a burden to carry. took an armorer course in the early 80s while at FT. Bragg, the 1911 was one of the firearms we covered in depth. Not handled a 1911 since I was discharged back in the mid 80s, this tisas 1911 does bring back memories. When they issued me the 1911, they gave me two mags and a box of ammo, I remember the box was a plain brown box with the military markings, that was a long time ago,

I put some 1970s era military surplus grips on mine. The color seemed a little darker than what came on the pistol and might add just a touch more authenticity. I love the history of the 1911 and wanted a “plain Jane” GI version that wouldn’t break the bank. I think the Tisas comes closer to getting it right than Springfield’s milspec model.

You sent me running to the gun cabinet. I was lucky to score a 1911 in the first CMP round. (They didn’t make it easy) I bought the Tisas as a truck / cabin gun. I would hold off on the grips until you can compare them to GI grips mine are very close maybe a little darker on the Tisas. Or maybe the CMP gremlins replaced the grips. My Tisas does not have the safety bump that yours does. Ruger has it that the ejection port has changed but l can’t see any difference. My CMP gun shoots a tad smoother but not much. I did look around at other GI clones and the Tisas was the closest to my CMP Remmington Rand. My CMP gun has been refurbished by the CMP so the parkerizing is nearly identical. I’ma few years older than you so l might have to stick a little white paint on the front sight of the Tisas. Great review, it was spot on, thanks.

I have a CMP Service Grade and the parkerizing is dead on to the Tisas, but the CMP didn’t parkerize any of these guns. The military did that.

I purchased one of these and I am really happy with it. It ran flawlessly and it was accurate enough with the fixed sights that at any reasonable distance a miss is going to be because of my shooting and not the gun. I was really glad I could get a good reproduction of this famous pistol at a price I could afford. I carry it when I hunt hogs to apply the coup de grace and to take care of unforeseen hazards at close range. Feel pretty confident it can handle that.

.45 ACP had no issues with the Hostage Swing Plate vs Sig M18 9mm, just an observation. No rattle, not G.I. I will have to look closer to this firearm , as I like .45 ACP. My service pistol was a S&W 4506 24 years ago. The only 1911s I have fired were all made by Kimber but, retirement is coming and my collection has gotten stale over the last few years being overseas. Love it! Gotta have one! (But I won't be trading my CZ.) A friend of mine bought a CMP 1911. It cost him well over $1000, a ream of paperwork, and many, many months of just waiting. What he received was a mishmash of parts assembled into a functional but quite rough-looking firearm with its historical context jumbled to hell. If you can't say "this gun was carried by the Marines defending the Chosin Reservoir" or even something routine and work-a-day like "carried by the San Diego Shore Patrol", then I don't understand the appeal. A brand new and very faithful reproduction M1911A1 (not to mention the excellent build quality) seems the much preferable option.

I have to agree Neal. Since purchasing this firearm, I know longer have the desire to jump through all the CMP hoops in order to get one of theirs.

@@hrfunk I got mine a few weeks back. I traded for a pre-owned Tisas in a no-cash exchange. It was fairly f-ed up with an inappropriate trigger and hammer, but I was able to get the correct parts from SDS. My gunsmith returned it to factory condition and he was quite impressed with its smooth operation and accuracy. 😊

Awesome intro piece! HR Fudd. 🤣 Tisas did a great job. I was issued a 1911A1 back in the late 70s and through the mid 80s. My last pistol was made by Remington Rand. That pistol was thoroughly worn and rattled quite a bit.

Hooah! Thanks for the informative review. I’m looking for a GI model 1911 and after researching several makes, I keep coming back to the Tisas. I’m retired Army NCO with 21 years service (71-92) and remember my time on the qualifying range with the 1911 fondly. Ours were old Ithacas but they were super reliable. We didn’t zero the weapon, we zeroed ourselves, so I won’t be needing any fancy sights.😂
