@@dukecraig2402 One, about your M14 story, sucks he sold it before you all could experience it. About the 1911s... yea the original intention with the interchangeability of parts was so they could put all the parts of the 1911s into a bucket and wash them, then replace them not worrying about matching them up. Odd that the very thing they wanted with the interchangeability was the same thing that nailed it's own coffin. I'm kinda in the opinion of since those pistols were with the USMC during their defining moments of their force (Pacific campaign) it should be the official pistol of the Corps, even if they don't use it anymore. Excellent review as always. Your review made me go out and purchase one on these to test and I am extremely impressed with just about everything. I put about 300rds through it today and then tore it down completely and examined all the parts with the numerous original GI parts that I have. Every GI part fit perfectly in this SDS import. I agree with you about the Philippine 1911's. I refuse to work on them anymore. I just got tired of the hit and miss quality control and having to hand fit a great deal of the parts. This is much truer to form than both the Rock Island GI series and the Springfield GI series and at a savings of between $80 to $150. I have been shooting 1911's for over 50 years and gunsmithing them for almost that long. Your Colt 1911A1 did have the wide hammer spur up until about 1943 when Colt went with the narrow one. I have never gotten hammer bite with any GI 1911 and I did not get it with this one either after over 300 rds. I do have small hands and that is the reason. The magazine that came with my Tisas was a Mec-gar and was so marked and I found it to be excellent with no flex at all. I feel that this 1911 A1 is by far the best value for the money with extremely good machine work and attention to detail. Time and more rounds through it will tell me how it will hold up, but the quality of the steel seems just fine. Thank you for your detailed and very honest review.
@maineiacacres4 жыл бұрын
As far as reliability is concerned, I'm going with Ken Hackathorn's statement on the lower ejection port (see his review of the Govt Classic). If reliability was a problem they would have lowered it before the A1 came out. It was lowered in the Govt models to allow the spent casing to eject without denting it. Reloaders had less work to do then.

I was issued M1911A1s in the 80s by Uncle Sam. One of my USAF match guns had a Remington slide and Colt frame. I looked at a SDS/Tisas 9mm 1911 and it looked very well made. Fully chromed bbl with ramp and Cerakote finish and Mec-Gar mags for $450. It's as good/better than what I was issued, or any of the others issued in WWI,WWII, Korea, or Vietnam.
@WolfoftheAurora4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Tim. 10:20 The wider hammer on the Tisas is accurate to the original WWII 1911A1s (at least the shape is). Although, you'd find 1911A1s with the thinner hammer as well, such as your original Colt.

Colt used the wider hammer up until early 1944 in the 1.7 million serial range. Tim's M1911A1 dates from right when Colt switched to the narrow hammer.

I qualified with the government 1911 in the Marine Corps, in 1969, and used one in Vietnam, as well. I never had a problem with hammer bite, with it. Last year I purchased the Tisas US Army A1 and during the break in that hammer bit me pretty good. I credit that to my age and many years of working with my hands. What solved the issue was a slight change in my grip. I'm a right-handed shooter. I found that lowering my thumb on the grip a bit did the trick. I'm very happy with this firearm. It was a great value.

I bought one from Atlantic Firearms for $339 a few weeks ago. It shoots great. I had issues with 2 of the 15 mags I had on hand but they are cheap older mags and I havent tried them in anything else yet. I think it's a good looking ww2 repro that shoots great and is at the right price. Long term I can't say how she will hold up. My only concern is the hammer construction looks a little hinky to me from the side. Worst case if it ever broke get them to send a new one or replace it with a GI part. To sum up, good gun for the money. A real shooter.

Tisas has redone these GI replicas. Now they have genuine parkerizing, small ejection port, smaller hammer, etc. etc. They also have 100% milled from billet hardened before machining internals. NO MIM OR CAST PARTS. I have 500 rounds through mine and it’s awesome.

I went to buy a Rock Island after a couple months of trying to decide best value for a 1911, but saw an all black Tisas 1911A1 service on the shelf. After handling it and seeing how the quality was noticeably better than the RIA, and after some quick Google-Fu, decided to buy it. $415 before taxes. Glad to see I made the right choice. Saved about $70 which I can spend on ammo instead and got the better gun. I’ll probably upgrade the beaver tail to prevent the hammer bite and might paint the front sight, but other than that I’m just gonna enjoy it. Never had a 1911 or a 45 in my fleet, so I feel like this is an amazing value.

I bought a Tisas recently as a stand in for my old Colt. The old Colt is just too dammed valuable to use as a truck/utility gun anymore. Dammit! But the Tisas has satisfied me in every way. It is reliable, accurate and worth every penny of the inexpensive price I paid for it. It is almost as good as a 102 year old Colt. It is more accurate and reliable than many big bucks 1911s. I wonder how the SDS would compare to the Springfield and Remington 1911A1's. They both cost a little more and are both replicas of the same firearm. I admit that my Kimber 1911 Custom has completely spoiled me to all other semi's. I absolutely hated my XD40 and Glock 23 after shooting the Kimber. It's the second nicest shooting pistol I own, right behind my retired police issued S&W 65-2. There is no better trigger on the planet than a tuned K series S&W shooting double action.

I love my model 19 but it's a newer one. I shoot magnums through it and love it, although my friend's police trade in model 10 that is decades old has a trigger that breaks like glass and he got it for $450 at a flea market. Still has most of the bluing on it too, no rust just holster wear.

The Springfield Mil-Spec Defender has a few more bells and whistles like the dovetailed non-gi sights, but the build quality is pretty darn close. I understand that the modern Remington 1911 (R1?) Is picky with magazines in terms of getting it to feed reliably.

On your last video I compared to the American made AK to buying a brand new '57 Chevy. This is sort of similar but what a great starter platform for someone who doesn't mind tinkering! With my big fleshy mitts a beaver tail and commander hammer are a must to avoid hammer bite. I like an extended slide release, standard safety and a long trigger....all drop in parts that would give you an affordable 1911 with all of the trimmings of the high end Gucci 1911s at half the cost. If you're into reinacting it looks like this piece will pass muster. None of my 1911's are equipped with the trendy Novak style sights but honestly I mainly point shoot mine.

I picked mine up at my FFl last Friday. Purchased a bunch of the cheapest ammo the store had. Was some sorta grey colored box of blazer. Gun absolutely rocks. I didn’t do anything to it other then wiping the barrel with a bore snake. Seemed to been lubed pretty well. Shot several boxes of 50 flawless from start to finish. Swapped the cheap grips out with some 70s era usgi surplus 1911a1 grips. Looks better as well as feels better. The hammer is period correct. There are plenty of variations where they used a wide spur hammer. My 43’ colt has one. Some used narrow. They also updated them with newer updated parts (narrower hammer, back straps with updated serrations as the war went in, and after the war. The mags it comes with is a Mec-gar magazine

What I’d like to know is if these 1911’s are made of quality forged steel, like the old Norinco imports which were used to make high end custom sidearms. The 1911’s from the Philippines are usually made from cheap MIM castings, although so are the majority of handguns these days. 😔

Another difference is that with theTisas you can readily fire hollow points, whereas with the WW2 1911A1s odds are, you can't. My Remington Rand mfg'd in 1944 takes some hollow points, but most can't. Don't ask me why. When it comes to .45s, I'll take the Tisas over any other reproduction gun out there in the same chambering. Your Colt and my Rem.Rand are collectibles, so we won't be firing them much, but the Tisas is exactly what I've wanted for my carry gun. With my Baby Browning as my back-up, I think I'm covered. It's nice to know that the Tisas 1911A1 has the Colt series 70 innerds, which I'm told by those who know, that it is the best .45 that Colt ever made. To my way of thinking, aside from the parkerized coating being somewhat thin, I made the very best gun-buy of my life when I bought my Tisas.

@Cpt-Night-ajg4 жыл бұрын
@@dustyak79 I'm not exactly sure what you even mean. If you mean that the notches on the slide release lever itself will wear out on old colts, well I have two response for that. One I don't buy colt 1911's everything I have seen except the m45 in recent years have been fit like hot garbage. Two, the slide release lever is about $35 for a new. If I shot my gun so much that I wore out the slide stop so badly that I lost the last round hold open, I could likely afford to buy a new slide release and get it up and running no issue. For most guns that is a non issue.
@dustyak794 жыл бұрын
Alexander Guzman not the release leaver itself. But the notch in the slide so you would have to replace the whole slide itself not a big deal on modern quality steel but older or cheaper guns.
@Cpt-Night-ajg4 жыл бұрын
@@dustyak79 that sounds like it would only be an issue on the most early production 1911's made of the softest metal. Just looking at my own 1911 and how the slide stop is operated I cannot see how this would ever be a serious issue even if thay corner of the slide where to somehow be rounded enough that it would no longer catch, the slide has enough travel past that point thay any reasonable gun Smith should be able to mill a square notch back into the slide at that spot and restore the spot. Again this sounds like something that would never happen o many modern gun and would still only be an issue on very high round count 1911's. This is not a reason to avoid using the slide release as intended.
