Gotta go with Tisas model. Appears more accurate in hitting center of target. Colt may be better in some areas like smoother action and more modern sights plus hold its value better. Seen a few other Tisas videos and all have performed exceptionally well for a low end 1911. With more use the Tisas may become smoother as it breaks in. Have a Blessed Day

The great thing about the 1911 is that the basic design works great. Even a basic, no frills one is an outstanding pistol so if that's what you can afford, you are good to go. Let's face it, the reputation of this pistol was based on the GI model, not on the tuned one. Join the club, get one and enjoy!

I have 3 Colts (Combat Elite .45 ACP, Delta Elite 10mm and Defender 9mm and a rock island armory GI 45 ACP. The rock shoots as well as the Colts and I like the basic, series 70 style trigger vs series 80 as the pull is better. These budget 1911s are an awesome value

I agree with you for the price, the slide to frame fit and the barrel they put in the tisas is a ridiculous bargain. It feels tighter and shoots more accurately than all the other Colts I have some of which were around $1800.

Yup, Tisas did a GREAT job of recreating the 1911A-1...right down to the convex screws for the grips. JMB designed the 1911 for battlefield conditions, so the rim of a .45ACP cartridge could be used as a field expediant screwdriver to replace a broken grip panel. In fact, in an emergency a fired .45ACP cartridge could be used as a recoil spring plug.

I think your issues with the Tisas sights pretty much applies to any GI model with military sights. The biggest advantage of upgraded sights is being able to rapidly acquire the sight picture.

A full power 38 Super tops any 9MM by a considerable margin and is still a bit faster than any responsibly loaded +P or +P+ (though no standard for +P+). Hodgdon's loading data has some safe loads for 38 Super, 115gr XTP right at 1400 fps (still within SAAMI specs). My handholds loads show that is safe and attainable. By any measure, a 38 Super is a screamer, and any 9mm loaded to those speeds is a compressed load well beyond any manufacturer approved pressure limits.

I have the Tisas 4.25” Carry model. It has Novak style sights and a large ambidextrous safety. You should fire that Colt against either the Carry or the 5” Duty model. More “Apples to apples “ than with the Army version.

Just wanted to update on my 1911A1 TISAS which I purchased earlier in year. I shot it as did my son at CMP Talladega “D-Day” Match this week. (We also shot G19 Gen 5 for Military & Police Match). We both concur that The TISAS is very good and hit “X” at 25 yards numerous times. Ran flawlessly for 1st time at Range for my son and me. We shot (45)rounds each through the match which is timed and no issues. This was a “as issued 1911”match so no match barrels allowed nor adjustable sights. Great 191A1 for the money. Have not tried HP as we only shot FMJ 230gr (Creedmore manufactured) ammo. FYI- I also have two other 1911s Colt Officer’s Mark IV Series 80 (3.5 inch Barrel) and a Springfield “Loaded” (an upgraded Range Officer) so I can candidly compare the TISAS to other “high end” 1911s

Regarding the "bump fire" issue that you had with the Colt. I don't think that was really a bump fire. An actual bump fire would have gone off sounding as if it came from a machine gun. Your second shot happened 1 to 1-1/2 seconds after the first shot. You actually pulled that trigger unintentionally. I've seen this before with shooters who have been shooting precision rifles a lot. It usually comes down to trigger technique. This happens if, as soon as you detect the first shot has gone off, you "arrest" the trigger pull instead of following-through on the trigger. Your finger is still holding the trigger right at the point in the press where the trigger fired the shot, so when the gun came down off of recoil the trigger finger was holding the trigger right at the point where the shot breaks - and it did. On any auto-loading firearm, when the shot goes off, pull the trigger all of the way through, and hold it back against the stop all the way through recoil. Then, when the sights come back on target, relax the hold on the trigger until you feel the trigger reset. You will never get that unintentional "bump fire" that way. What was very impressive was the day my son, who had been shooting a lot of bolt action rifles previously, took his new Armalite AR10 with a light two-stage competition trigger, to the range for the first time. He ripped off a three or four round burst of 7.62 NATO. Made the other shooters look, too! I asked him to describe his trigger pull, and he was shooting it like a bolt gun, stopping his trigger pull right at the break. Actually, 1911s have such a good light trigger pull with such a short reset (compared to all of those Glocks and Glock-shaped objects that are so popular these days) that a 1911 is probably one of the few handguns that you actually CAN bump fire. But that trigger, with that short reset, can do a double-tap to be proud of.

I am a Colt fan. The Tisas shoots about the same as my series 70 1911 that I built from a spare slide and a Colt frame. Fitted the slide to frame , trigger to 4 lbs, left GI sights, added ambi safety. Tisas has to be considered a Best Buy. Could see getting one and leaving a Colt 22 conversion on it. Looks like your GI roots have set your eyes for dead on with the old sights. For those Cabo want a GI replica or a low cost home defense 1911 , should take a look at thecTISAS. For $1200, I would go for the Series 70 Colt Gold Cup just for the sights

About three-and-a-half years ago, I purchased the stainless version of the Tisas (all the bells and whistles incl rail) from CDNN and found it to operate just like the USA-made versions. With the exception of a slightly heavier trigger, which would probably improve with usage. Unfortunately, it never got that breaking in before I let it go a few months ago. But I still believe it was an incredible bargain at $450.

I have the Tisas Duty model with all the bells and whistles, minus the rail. I put a set of Hogue thin rubber grips on it for my stubby fingers and the only complaint after 2 years is its dislike of the cheapest magazines available, which I don't think is any different from more expensive 1911s. So really no complaints at all. I actually prefer it over the Springfield Range Officer I had.

Thanks for another great video. I purchased the same Tisas some months back. I only had mediocre expectations. Boy was I surprised! Fitted very well, tight no rattles anywhere. Clean machining. 100% reliable with everything tried includding my Lswc reloads. Shoots better than I can. Pretty close to a WW11 era 1911A1. So I can't knock the sights, but better sight would be a big improvement.

Whenever you think about it. The 1911 has been around for 100+ years has had probably millions produced by several different countries and manufacturers. The materials are simple. It’s a basic pistol. Easy and cheap to make. The only reason I can think of when it comes to why 1911’s are so expensive is due to the fact that it has a massive cult following of very very zealous people who would do anything to dick measure their 1911’s.

I have had all kinds of 1911 Colt AMT Kimber Springfield S&W Sig. From a practical accuracy that Tisas is shooter even with the true 1911 sights vs colt off the bench. Of course sights can be replaced...but that adds cost to the gun...Especially finding a smith that does a good stake job in front sights. I like guns that chew out the center of a target!

I had a Colt 1991, back in the 90's, but ended up selling it. Always have been a 1911 kinda guy, though I hadn't owned a 1911 style pistol since. (Also a six shooter, hog leg kinda guy, and that's what I owned, lol.) So, fast forward to 2019, and being on a bit of a tight budget at the time, I picked up a Tisas (SDS Imports) 1911 Tanker (4 1/2" bbl). I was planning on moving up-budget (maybe even another Colt), but I have been so pleased with my Tisas, that it has become my primary EDC. Only things I've done to it is; put a new set of grips on (simulated stag), keep the front sight dotted with white paint (my eyes ain't getting younger, either), and new magazines, of course. It's accurate, and has no reliability problems, which is why I trust my life to it. I've got a more robust budget now, so I'm back in the market for a 1911, and I'm thinking about just getting another Tisas. Will leave the one I have as is, and tinkering around with the new one. Heck, for the price, one can afford to tinker with a Tisas.

After watching the video carefully, I concluded that the Tisas actually did better than the Colt. Heresy? Maybe, but IMO the Tisas grouped better in spite of less than ideal sights and heavier trigger pull. A lighter trigger pull is easily achieved and the cost of better sights not that expensive keeping the total cost still well under that of the Colt. Unless one is hung up over brand names, I'd choose the Tisas. Actually, I already did and couldn't be more pleased.

I personally like the half moon front sight more for precise shooting and the larger, high visibility sights for quick aiming. I have the half moon and like it for small targets farther away and my buddies 1911 has a large squared off front sight and I like that for the dueling tree and things like that. I really like the original 1911A1 look over any newer design. Great video, thank you.

Cheap or expensive, gotta love a 1911, they are so tunable. Clean the trigger components up, adjust the trigger pull weight to 4lbs, and put a fiber optic sight on that cheap gun, and I bet it would be about as good as the Colt for much less money. Sure, the internal parts on the Colt are probably made from better materials, and it will wear better over time, but it's cool that one can get into a decent 1911 on the cheap... It's such a great design, good video.

Regarding wearing better over time, these days who can afford to spend enough on ammo to wear the Tisas out. Totally agree with the trigger job + fiber optic on front sight. Add accurizing/centering the barrel and you’ve got a great gun. I’ve done this with a $400 1911 and it shoots just as accurately as my STI Trojan and Colt. More credible ( I’m just a avid plinker not highly skilled) is that two friends of mine that are top IDPA shooters have tried it and confirm my results.

Like you, when I was 19 in combat in Vietnam in the Special Operations. I was in several gun fights where I had to use my 1911 A1 45 ACP. I didn't have any trouble winning those gun fights. I was issued a new Colt 1911 A1 45 ACP and was told to take it to the range and shoot 250 rounds to break it in. Like the Tisas my 1911 A1 45 ACP was very accrete. Growing up on a ranch, I did a lot of shooting, and some of that was with a Colt peacemaker 45 LC with a 6" barrel. My Father was a gifted shooter, he never had to use the sights no even at long-distance rifle shoots. I was not that gifted, but I could hit a deer in the eye at night at 50 yards. I can still maintain a 1.5" group at 7 Yards just pointing and shooting. I can do this with my 1911 Kimber 45 ACP and any of my 9MM x19MM hand guns. This said, your video prompted me to buy a Tisas 1911 A1, I got mind on sale for $299.00 + tax + FFL $25= $335.12. Out of the box, it shot just like you did, except for the offhand speed drills. I'm looking forward to the video comparing the higher Tisas to the Colt. It seem like the big difference between the two guns in this test was more configuration vs quality. while watching, I was searching to see if Tisas made a higher spec gun (specifically with better sights), which, as you said at the end of the video, they do. The other option would be to borrow a GI spec colt (which you could likely do without having actually buy another gun), and test that against the GI spec Tisas.

I just received a Tisas as you used here. From 25 yards you certainly did well with Government sights on the Tisas in my opinion. Shooting my old Ruger 9mm with my Brother-in-law many years ago, he smoked me good. But then again, he had the advantage of U. S. Marine training while serving in Vietnam. Howard, there is something I think you might like to look into. I have no personal interest in this product, other than I think it is a good one and deserves to succeed. Recently I bought some newer variations on revolver speedloaders, to see if anything better has come along. I like full moon clips, but not all revolvers are cut for them and getting cylinders cut can be expensive. I have always used the standard HKs, but have tried others when they crop up. The Safariland loaders are nice but far too bulky for every day or even field carry, and especially not concealed carry. Rubber strips are handy, but slow. A few months ago I bought a couple of Zeta6, six shot loaders, played with them a few minutes, then put them in a drawer. Pulled them out again a few days ago and looked at them more in-depth. They are basically a rubber strip... in a circle. You really should try these. They are quite fast to figure out and, in my mind, far more dependable. Right now, they are only available for 38/357. I started a conversation with them a couple days ago about a 44sp/44mag version, which would be right up "our" alley. Anyway, they have been sending samples to the also-rans on youtube and had no positive results, because of that poor choice. I suggested they contact you. I suggested they just send you some gratis samples, but you may prefer something different.

davidkachel, I bought some Zeta6 speed loaders as well as a few of their 6-round strips, which are curved and allow three rounds to be loaded at a time. Both are improvements on traditional competitors and are now my go-to choices for my carry revolvers. I don't know why they aren't more popular than they are. In addition to being reliable and easy to use, they don't "drag" in my pocket because they are so light.

The fact that the tisas was preforming on par with the colt as the standard GI configuration is true testament to how well that gun is made. I think a better comparison would be one tisas more modern style offerings. But still great content as always.

I love my Tisas 1911 A1. It looks great and works very well. My problem is that I can't leave well enough alone and just have to tinker and try to improve it. The sights are the only feature that drove me crazy because I like to shoot small groups and it isn't easy with the Tisas with my 65 year old eyes. If I was to buy another Tisas 1911 I would choose one of the slightly pricier models with the larger sights. Thank you for another great video. I have been looking forward to this one.

I own 2 Tisas Government model .45s and they have proven to be as accurate and reliable as any other Government model I have ever fired over the 40+ years I've been utilizing them. When the chinese company Norinco was producing G.I. style M1911A1s I tested one out for an OWAA publication and that darn thing outshot my Colt Gold Cup! How do you tell people that? I noticed Hickock45 was trying to find a way to not tell his viewers that the Tisas he tested out was as good as a Colt for way-way less cash but in my opinion they are, so sue me 😊 ... I've had a bump fire with both my Walther PPK/S and Beretta Bobcat. Those triggers in single action mode are so light. Obviously my fault and a grip issue and not a problem with the guns.

Yep. I've only ever experienced that issue while appying very slow steay pressure to the trigger for a a precise shot.

I picked up a Tisas 1911 stainless Duty model, came with a hard case, cleaning tool, bushing tool, and 2 magazines for just over $500, amazing deal. Hasn't had one failure yet, definitely one of my favorite handguns now.

Your Tisas performs much like mine, capable of 1 inch groups at 7 yards shooting freehand, with my glasses on LOL. POI was better with the Tisas. A dash of orange paint on the front sight would help the Tisas, but that would ruin the nostalgic appearance of the pistol. I do appreciate the beaver tail grip safeties and better sights on modern 1911s.

I recently shot my Dan Wesson Valor 5" 45acp and my Rock Island CS 3.5" 45acp. The Valor was close to a $2000 gun and the Rock Island $500+ I shoot the Rock Island more accurately, but no one can give me a good reason why.

I found an upgraded Tisas for about $100. More than the GI. It’s got fiber optic front sights and adjustable rear. Skeletonized trigger and hammer and a few more improvements. Now that would be a equal tests even though the GI madel did good ! Great Video !

Good morning HR. One other advantage of the Colt is that it will hold it's value better. Over the years the only Colt I've had a problem with was a little Officers model. It would sometimes stop just short of lockup. And now for something completely different. Do you know of anywhere to get Masada magazines? Everyone seems to be out of the 17 round mags, even IWI.

When I was wounded in the Marines, Special Services would bring plastic model kits for us to make during our recovery (often there would be a note from a church saying 'this model kit was donated by Lisa or George' and you could send a thank you note to that person.) It was really appreciated! The best part was the flat modelers paint we used to make the kits. So back in 1969 I would use a Testors flat white on the M1911 & M 1911A1 front sight as a base coat (2 coats) and follow that up with flat bright Yellow coats (2 coats.) (If you had a little bleed onto the side it could be wiped off easily with a paper towel, if dry with a paper towel and Testors paint thinner.) When the paint dried it adhered to the serrated surface perfectly. I then practiced to make small perfect circles with just the flat white modeler's paint and I centered the dot below the square sight cutout (again 2 coats). It made a bright exclamation sight easily picked by the eye, and worked wonderfully for stock 1911 sights! You could put flat clear coat over your work but it slightly dulled the vibrant colors so I usually didn't. There used to be a lot of issue 1911's and 1911A1's out there so modified...

The Colt seems to consistently shoot low at all ranges and both loads. I suspect that this is due to a straight mainspring housing. I have found that the arched mainspring brings the bore straighter in line and shoots close to point of aim.

I think the sights for the Colt are regulated for 25 yards. That’s why it’s hitting low at closer distances.

The test of time and long term dependability is a Tangible unknown , However from these both new examples I would replace the sights and work on the trigger of the Tisas .

The ATF has determined "bump fire fingers" must be registered as machine guns, HA. Suffice to say that there is not $800 worth of difference in accuracy and performance between the two. Some will mention future "resale value" but I don't "re-sell" so that's not an issue for me. If it were, I would compare the % ROI ( or "loss on investment") and I bet they would be pretty equal there, also. I think you also show the value of the sights for "combat" drills. Tisas makes models with better sights also. I've heard the proper pronunciation is "Titsass" but I haven't confirmed the source.

@@Beuwen_The_Dragon True. Yet I own 3 Colts and 2 Kimbers, so I have no personal desire to own the Tisas 1911, BUT I do own a Tisas Regent BR9 High Power clone and it is a great value. I think it comes down to what you want to spend your money on and I am pretty satisfied Tisas is a good value. How will they last over the next 100 years? Who knows? But, as you say, you can buy 2 spares for the same price.

Happy to see more Tisas comparison videos popping up out there. It’s a serious contender in the 1911 world but people are still resistant to the idea that it can possibly be any good for that price. I’d definitely like to see a more direct comparison between a Tisas B45 or another model with upgrades sights, and the Colt. And ultimately, I’d like to see Tisas vs Rock Island, which is Tisas’ nearest competitor, and the one that everyone refers to as THE budget 1911. With Tisas around I don’t think that’s true, but I’ve yet to see a direct comparison.

Is a Colt worth the extra money? Only if you want the name Colt on the pistol. If you want performance and don't want to spend a lot of money on a forged steel frame 1911, I think Tisas is the best deal going. Mind you, I see little wrong with Girsan, Taurus, Springfield, Remington, Ruger, and the plethora of Filipino imports. My personal favorites right now are a Magnum Research (great trigger out of the box) and Dan Wesson (solid feel and smooth operation).

The Tisas for CQB will work. I started shooting Colt G.I. in the late 60's. THEN I could hit 25 yds. no problem. Today, with 70 year old eyes I need the fiber optic or a good white dot. Best to ya',,,,!

Howard, really interesting results between the Tisas vs Colt. I think that someone on a budget who wants a 1911, can't go wrong with the Tisas based on your results. Maybe put upgraded sights and have a good shooting 1911 at the end of the day. I carry one of two full size 1911's in 45 acp as my primary EDC and home defense. One a Kimber and the other a Springfield. Both around $1,000 retail. My concern has always been that should I ever have to use my 1911 in a defensive shooting, it will end up in a police evidence locker for some unknown period of time. The question being whether I would get it back if ever. Maybe switching to a Tisas as an EDC instead should that end up in a police locker, it would be less painful from a financial perspective. But I suppose I'm putting money on my life and the life of my family. My life and the life of my wife are far more valuable than $1,000. So I guess I answered my own question. I bought the TISA because I wanted a GI model like I carried in the Army. I can tell you that the pistol has a much better trigger than the old GI models and so far, has been very forgiving on ammo, but not magazines. I would think that the better sights alone would give you a significant advantage at the longer ranges. Still, I managed to qualify expert every time on the Army Qualification course and I would have every confidence that I could do it with this one too.

Hello. Been watching your videos for awhile. Was wondering if you could share your experience and training with how your departments had made their plans on dealing with active shooter(s)? Generally and specifically in schools. How about your time in the military as well with dealing with those types of incidents.

That would take a long response and probably get into some areas better not put out in the public domain. The short version is I was a US Marine MP from 1985-1989. After leaving the Corps, I became a civilian law enforcment officer. That career lasted until this past year. I'm currently employed by a private security firm. During my life, I've had extensve training in the handling/use of firearms; and I try to pass on much of what I've learned in my videos.

If you don't mind me chiming in, 33 years a police officer, 8 years active duty, 12 reserve, with extensive active shooter training. Every LE agency in my area, had the same exact training. You respond and first two to five Officers, to get there, with patrol rifles, and rifle grade helmet and vests, form up, and run to the sound of the gunfight, without any delay, and take out the shooter(s) immediately. . That was my training in central Texas, not long after Columbine, and 9/11. That is the way it is to be carried out. When gunfire is ongoing, there should NEVER. NEVER be any delay, as you know every shot fired by the active shooter, means a life is being taken.

@@LoneStarLawman In more recent years, the doctrine has changed to what's called SORAT, or Single Officer Response to an Active Threat. Essentially, what's been discovered is that waiting for a group of 3 or 4 officers to arrive requires too much time. So now, the first officer on scene is tasked with making an entry and attempting to stop the threat.

I bought my Tisas 1911 in OD Green two years ago for $386 new, put 3,500 rds through it now and it is still performing with the original parts. I've shot steel case, brass case all 230gr ball ammo with not one single malfunction. I bought an Auto Ordnance Stainless by Khar Industries for $1,100 and it performs well with better sights yadda yadda yadda but that's a given ... they both perform well and I shoot both.

BTW I did the tune up & was not real happy at the time it needed one NIB , I now know how to do one & work on a 1911 , I had no clue before that . The builder could have done the same work in about 5 Min .

I think the concept of hand finishing a firearm has faded into history. Nowdays, however a part comes out of the CNC machine is considered good enough.

If I only had 1 carry gun , I would go over it & look for areas I could clean up . It will make a difference . Don't over do it , you can always go back & hit it again if needed .

how did the barrel look after sending those all-lead semi wads? I've put all lead through my 45 cal revolver before but not my automatic 45. it seemed tricky not to push the lead too hard and end up with a leaded barrel. last time I loaded bullets I was unable to get fmj conveniently. the semi wads performed awesome though...i used 200gr bullets.

Back in the 70's, when shooting a Army version 1911 (or 03, Garand or Carbine), Wite-out was your friend. Quick and easy to apply to front sight and almost as easy to remove. Nowadays I use Glow-on paint with a clear nail polish seal, green on blued and bubblegum (orange) on stainless.

The Army Military Police had us shooting the 45 out to 50 yards . Mud and water flying everywhere and once in a while you’d actually hit the full silhouette 🫣. Yea it would serve to keep an attacker off you but that’s about it in combat, besides you had an M16 for that type of thing. I never wanted one of these for work as they were just too darned heavy . Even the 686 Smith they issued us left a blue bruise on your hip after a long day. You do get a real appreciation for these things especially these days when agencies demand you carry more crap on your belt than Batman. Great gun for it’s day but not so well suited for modern times. I just bought a Tisas and haven’t even shot it yet as I’m waiting for my ( reasonably priced) batch of empty brass to come in. Nice gun in fit and form. It’s far nicer than what I was issued back when. Colt sure never sent them with a Stainless barrel .

1911s have a special place in my heart. Dad's Korea era 1911 with my first experience with the centerfire pistol. Planning to add a couple TISAS to my Bul 1911 Government... Also eyeing the Bul Armory SAS II EDC Pro. There are certainly other pistols that I like more but these definitely have a place.

Another great video. Love the comparisons. I have several 1911 a1s, but only a couple with the adjustable sights / bells and whistles. This is primarily because I love the historical aspects of the 1911 as a military firearm. Though I don’t shoot my older Colt and R/Rands a lot, I also have a 1911 a1 reissue that Colt put out about 11 years ago to celebrate the WWII iteration. While that Colt is a great shooter, have to say that the Tisas is as well and they are pretty compatible accuracy wise.
