I bought one of the first Tisas 1911s when they came in the country. It has worked flawlessly for nearly 15 years. I’ve also had several other 1911’s during this time span to include Springfields and Colts that did not run as well and went separate ways, but the Tisas has remained in its spot in the gunsafe because it has worked 100%!

The only 1911 that works as well as my Tisas is a Black Colt brought back From France after the First World War . The only ammo that one has a hard time with is Full Wadcutters, which it was never intended to shoot anyway. Hollow points, Hydro Shock, no problem. Same with the Tisas. I haven't had the opportunity to test my Tisas with Full Wadcutters yet. The Tisas is one of the best built, best functioning, good quality 1911s I have ever seen. I almost didn't buy it because it was too Cheap! This Tisas is better functioning than many Much more expensive Pistols. I put a set of World War Two Bakelite Grips on it. The ones it came with were ...... Not so good looking. The pistol looks like a Movie Star from the 40s.

Purchased a tisas 1911A1 3 wks ago. Had 2 cmc 8rd mags and 2 mecgar 8rd. All functioned perfectly. When cleaning after first shooting i noticed corrosion under the recoil spring plug(which had pitted) and end of recoil spring, Replaced both. Gun was in gun store only a couple of days before i purchased it. Seen two other videos on corrosion. One was behind the grip safety. LOVE THE PISTOL, functions perfectly. I'll just keep an eye on it. Thanks for HPs video. I just purchased 2 boxes of fiocchi 230gr which use xtp bullets. Guess I might should run a few through it. There's no easy way to know how long an imported gun has been in transit from the overseas manufacturer to the stateside importer. During the worst part of the absurd COVID shutdown America's port system almost collapsed as inbound ships waited months to be unloaded. While loitering in various harbors and bays those merchant cargoes, mostly in container ships, were exposed to all sorts of rust-promoting hazards that don't affect goods transported in a timely and efficient manner.

I own a Tisas 1911A1 U.S. Army model and it has run flawlessly so far. I have shot 230 grain hard ball ammo and 230 grain Speer Gold Dot JHP with no ftfs. I was a staunch Glock fan for years. Last year I purchased a Springfield Range Officer 1911 compact and it’s very reliable with all types of ammunition. Now, I understand that it is a much different operating system from the GI model as it has an integrated feed ramp like the polymer Guns. When I purchase a Springfield GI model I’ll most likely carry it with 230gr FMJ ammo as I feel the .45acp FMJ picks up right where 9mm JHP leaves off. So yes I’m now a HUGE 1911 fan. Thanks for sharing and Semper Fidelis. 🤠🇺🇸

I bought one of these a couple of years ago, paid $375 for it new. I love the way it looks and it runs very well despite needing a few hundred rounds to break in. I hate the sights but it is a pretty faithful reproduction so you get what you get. I find the Springfield mil-spec to be a better overall gun which makes sense since it costs more.

Chief, This is just my personal opinion, but whenever using a true 1911 design, I ALWAYS use 230 gr. hardball. Yes, most of the time HP's will be OK, but I know Hardball is 100% - 100% of the time. Plus, even though the Hardball will not expand, a .45 caliber hole and the 230 grains of weight will get the job done!

I wonder if your plunger tube spring wasn’t strong enough to hold the slide stop down under the heavier recoil of the defensive rounds. I remember In the last video your safety was a little sloppy and that spring looked weak. Like I said last vid I changed all the springs out to Wilson combat ones except the sear spring. The safety was a night and day difference. Wilson’s springs are a little longer and stiffer. I shot my buddy’s tisas he bought last week so it’s new like yours and they improved the trigger a lot vs mine that is a couple years old. I changed the sear spring on mine but the new ones like yours I wouldn’t touch they really improved the triggers on these and grip color to match Gi ones. They really listened to customer feedback. Great video as always these have got to be the best bang for your buck 1911s out there.

@@chaburchakIt seems to be a lot of owners after extended firing sessions complain of hammer bite. Two magazine comments: 1. My favorite 1911A1 is a twenty year old Springfield TRP; it is terrific. However, the TRP experienced the same problem you’ve had with two Wilson 10 round magazines (I don’t know the Wilson model number) . . . and in both cases, depressing the magazine release allowed the TRP to be loaded. 2. Those years ago, the TRP was my everyday carry autoloader, and I wanted 10+1 capacity. I purchased a couple McCormick “near double-stack” mags - which extended only slightly beyond the TRP’s mag well - and they worked flawlessly. Of course, in recent years, my EDCs have been a CZ 75B, an all stainless Kaht K4044 (a GREAT - and very under appreciated - semiautomatic), an H&K USP “original style” .45 Tactical (for wilderness use), and a Ruger SP101. Thanks, Howard, for this video and additional appreciation for your choice of hollow points; XTPs, Golden Sabers, and Hydra-Shocks aren’t currently too “fashionable,” but the still work VERY well.

@@hrfunk I entirely understand and agree with you. The Tasis 1911A1 has every evidence of being a terrific range, plinking, woods walking and so forth companion. Pity CCI no longer makes their 200gr JHP (the Flying Ashtray). If a pistol could feed that round with its gaping cavity, it was a safe bet the gun would feed anything! My 1989 Colt Stainless Commander ate them like candy, with factory feedramp and barrel!
@thomascarpenter74154 ай бұрын
Something to consider and I have to give credit to Hilton Yam from 10-8 Performance, when checking for feeding of different rounds use the slide release opposed to the sling shot method. According to Hilton this will give a truer test as to how the various rounds work with the feed ramp under standard spring tension of the recoil spring compared to extra compression of the sling shot . Good video 🫡

I bought one of these recently. I was watching a video fairly recently about how with certain magazines 1911s are prone to jam when not fully "broken in" - I went to test it on mine (Tisas 1911 Duty SS45R to be specific) with the included Mec-Gar magazine - with 7 rounds, gun chambers fine. With a full magazine, 8 rounds, the gun doesn't even seem to engage with it at all - not even a jam when the slide is released, the magazine doesn't click in. I'm not much of a firearms expert, but to me, that seems to be a magazine issue more than a gun issue - as with 7 round the magazine clicks in fine. I have heard that the Mec-Gar magazines included with the Tisas pistols use a funky spring for the magazine that makes the ammo point downwards, which leads to feed issues - I've heard Wilson Mags are the gold standard for 1911s in general, so I ordered one and see if that fixes the issue with a fully loaded magazine. Other than that, gun seems to function perfectly fine. I'm gonna take it out to a range soon.

Try a full magazine with those hollow points. On my Tisas 1911, I get a nose down failure to feed with anything other than 5 rounds in the mag. It’s the nature of the beast for cartridges to exhibit some vertical play at the top of the stack, and an improperly cut feed ramp will aggravate this problem. Mine runs fine with five rounds, though. Thanks for the video. Update: took the gun to the range today, shooting H&G 68 type bullets, without a bobble.

I have a Springfield loaded model and a blue steel Tisas. Both of my 1911’s feed everything I feed through them FMJ & JHP give me no issues using 8 round Wilson and Cobra magazines. Now in both guns I have milled stainless steel magazine catches because they hold the magazines in tighter and steady. Most importantly I always stick with the factory strength 16LB recoil spring, even when I replaced the recoil springs with chrome silicone springs for long term durability I still use the 16LB recoil spring for factory and self defense 45acp plus p. Using a stiffer spring has no benefit and causes stovepipes so stay with what works. The only extra power springs you need in a 1911 is the firing pin, magazine, and hammer.

I just got a Tisas and had the EXACT same problem with the EXACT same Wilson mag. The mag would not insert unless I pushed the release button. Mags that came with the pistol were fine and several Mec-Gar mags were fine. A CMC was fine. But here is something interesting. I swapped out the release assembly from a Rock Island and what do you know the dang Wilson inserted and locked like a champ in the Tisas! WTH! BUT the release from the Tisas would not go in the Rock Island. The hole for the button on the left side was too small! WTH! Thought about ordering a release from Rock Island but just decided to sell my only two Wilson mags to a friend and stick to Mec-Gar and CMC and call it a day.

@@hrfunk I guess but I compared the release assemblies on four different brands. That Rock Island clearly has a larger degree of angle on the bottom cut below the catch and worked with all brands I have. And as for palm slapping to insert, I'd never had one feel like I was trying to jam it into a wall before. That's when I removed the RIA and Tisas to compare the release/catch assemblies. You can sure see the difference. Yes my Tisas is not broken in even close yet. I'll be at the range this Friday, with some other pistols of mine, but I plan on at least 100 rounds, maybe 150 before I switch off. I just don't know if I'll try another Wilson just because no matter, the Mec-Gar and CMC work like champs anyway. Thanks for responding.

The 1911 is more likely to malfunction via nose dive jam with a full mag. If you want to test it fill a mag with 5 FMJ then top it off with three hollow points that way you’re not burning your hollow points while testing. In my experience the first two or three rounds are the worse for stoppages on hollow points if the gun has issues.

That was a solid test! The probable cause like you stated may have been your thumb rode up some on the slide stop. When I fire my FNX(.40), occasionally my thumb rides up on the safety. Oops! When my Metro Arms American Classic "Amigo" has several (FTF) stoppages I am certain it is mag problems. Need to get some Chip McCormack Mags. Should I mention your name? (Optics Planet)

I have hit the slide stop on my 10mm Kimber in the past from the recoil . I think I just needed to grip it tighter , when I did , it didn't happen . I'm not a nube , the Kimber 5" has more recoil than a G20 has with the same ammo , same day . I am right handed & hold mostly 2 thumbs forward , not overly tight , never had an issue with any other handgun . I find if I tuck my thumbs down a bit tighter never happened again .

The Megar's 8 round mags work great in the Tisa's. I own three, did a minor performance tune an they shoot like lasers. Definitely worth the money- very good quality an bang for the buck. Megar mags are about $20 bucks but also well made an heavy duty. They all fed flawlessly in all my Tisa's.

Another great video. I am waiting for my first 1911, a Tisas B45R. I am looking forward to receiving it and taking it to the range. What is your opinion regarding a break-in period for these 1911 pistols? Are they really necessary?
@hrfunk3 жыл бұрын
Conventional wisdom holds that a 1911 needs a couple of hundred rounds to "break in." That's probably still a good practice.
@chicanoshaver4742 жыл бұрын
Good morning I recently got the tisas ss duty model and it’s been having feeding problems well after doing test I’ve come to realize the problem is the magazine spring I’ve tested it on a factory mag and Wilson combat mag same results

May I ask what type of malfunction you are experiencing? My first thought is that you have a break-in issue, but the specific problem will help diagnose the issue.

I have a Tisas 1911a1 service and I have also experienced the slide locking back mid mag on one occasion. Not 100% sure why but otherwise the pistol has been flawless. The service model I have came with 2 factory 8rd magazines as well. Perhaps these mags could be another option for your army model?
@hrfunk2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m experimenting with different mags all the time.
@TwentyTwoSigma3 жыл бұрын
Got one yesterday, mine has nosedive jams with hp unless it only has 5 rounds in the mag. If I put ball as the 6th rd it will feed. If I add the 7th it still wants to jam, just while it's about halfway fed. Bought a kimber tac mag and I can successfully load and feed 7 rounds as long as the top round is ball ammo. I can load the 8th then it does that funky half jam. What am I doing wrong? Gun is brand new. I'm assuming the mags have too much spring tension and need worn in or need better mags. People say buy wilson combat mags for any 1911 since they raise the bullet up further for easier feeding. I don't want to dump a bunch of money into mags that won't work or the gun if it's just a pos.
@hrfunk3 жыл бұрын
It might just be a break-in issue. 1911s need a few rounds to get everything "worn in". It could also be magazine related. I would say run a couple of boxes of ammo through it, and if it doesn't straighten up, then try a different magazine (or two). If you're still having problems, send it back for service.
@DanTheWolfman3 жыл бұрын
I had the hammer not drop today, and that was w the lightest 115 ammo of the day...it's a pretty easy to depress grip safety...I think the thumb safety got bumped up to an inbetween off and clicking on...think it is the 2nd time this has happened. If you sweep it up very slow there is a sorta inbetween spot in can get caught in and trigger won't pull. Is there a ball detent spring or something for the safety that could be causing this? Or anything to replace or just have to be very careful?

Without examining the pistol it’s hard for me to say. You might want to see if the manufacturer will check it over.

@hrfunk3 жыл бұрын
I've reqwatched that sequence several times and I've magnified my hands as much as possible. I can see my thumb moving inder recoil, but I don't THINK it contacted the slide-stop. At this point, I've run about 100 rounds of ball ammo throught the pistol without a problem. In all likelihood, that's probably all it will see from this point forward.

I can guarantee you that the new 1911's are more relaible than a Colt from back in the 60's till about the 80's. They would not relaible feed h/p ammo and many were given to pistolsmiths for trigger jobs, lowered ejection ports, tuned extractors, etc.
