Amazing engineering, this is really a very impressive section. And I can't wait to see what it all looks like covered up, many new trees and new grassland planted, and with a bit of time for it to settle in. Should be a really good, sensitive environmental outcome. I think people won't believe what it will look like finished, it's like many of the complainers can't believe that any of the soil will ever support life again just because what was mostly just not-very-biodiverse grassy fields were scraped up in the earthworks...

Another excellent status report - thanks. No doubt that the old bridge has gone - and digging is underway - at 3:15 after we can see the shape of the western tunnel portal. Amazing construction - and greenery returning on the top lip of the southern side of the new/widened cutting. Good to see the dormant Greenway, ready to reconnect, in the top RH corner at 4:12 - such a set of changes since I first walked down that recently-abandoned railway line in 1979.

That’s going to be a very substantial green bridge. Plus the village have a nice replacement village hall.

Might as well tarmac the top and run a road along the route too...

There’ll be paths for walking, cycling and horse riding, amongst grass, native trees and shrubs. I like that plan better…

The tunnel entrance we can see at the end and beginning is made of precast sections as they can excavate to a flat area to erect them on. Beyond and at the old bridge the cutting needed would mean demolishing houses to get the same flat area, as its twice as deep as the old railway cutting. So here they are sinking deep diaphragm walls of concrete using the rectangular boxes attached to cranes. As you can see beyond the bridge they then link the two side walls with concrete beams and then dig out the soil in the middle. When they get to full depth they will cast a concrete floor where the tracks will go. Probably covering the whole thing with precast slabs then soil up to ground level.
