do you recommend water aerobic exercise for osteoporosis. i had a fall in steptember while on holidays which resulted in a compression fracture of my lumbar region. It is healing gradually but my leg muscles especially around my glutes have weakened due to lesser activity and consequently I get pain from in my left leg around my glutes. I used to go to the pool 5 days a week for two hours doing my water aerobic exercises but am now frightened to go now for fear of falling. I use my trekking poles for stability in the standing exercises and walking in general. your videos allow me to exercise at home.

Year of PT. Most recently 6 months recovery from severe rolled ankle. Anyway, I am a very active senior. I think watching your videos I have finally come across a series of exercises I can do to strengthen muscles without damaging the bone structure. I will make drawings of the no stress exercises and put together a 3x week plan. So very excited to find someone who understands the complexity of the aging body and the need to remain strong. I do work out with light weights and I use my own body weight. Your videos are so helpful in adapting exercises for safety. I thank you so, so much. I don't go to a gym. So my living room is where I work out. I watch you on a very large Tv with Apple tv. I also use a step. I have heard from numerous sources to avoid bending or twisting the spine when you are osteoporotic. However 3 PTs I have worked with are telling me it's safe because it's a smooth, not jerky, movement. It's difficult when I get such opposing opinions. I prefer to play it safe but it's a challenge during therapy sessions when the PT is telling me to do an exercise that may be unsafe.

Got a little too carried away and fractured my L4 when I started tossing the 20 pounder around...just as I was able to walk again after 4 months of agony I got an mRNA COVID booster and 3 weeks out my lower extremities went numb and weak for 7 months🤪 Finally 2 years later I am getting good cardio but am moving cautiously to develop an appropriate resistance training regimen. I am going to ask my doc for a bone density scan before I even start. This was super informative, THANX 😊💯💢💥Ruth Davis (72 years of age).

Just discovered your channel Will with this video. How refreshing to see someone who cares about what to avoid. As well as osteoporosis, I have scoliosis and spina bifida oculta so it’s quite hard to find suitable exercises. When I was younger there were many who were supposed to be experts and know their stuff; sadly this wasn’t always the case and when I tried karate the instructor who was also supposed to be a friend would try and force me to do all the exercises. Looking back with the knowledge I gained over the years they were terrible. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

I hope the rowing machine is ok. I try to keep my back straight as suggested in the product video. I get your point about tiredness making it difficult to keep your back secure (as you said when discussing the dead lift) so i will pay attention to that. Hello, I was told by my doctor that walking does little for the bones because there's not alot of resistance going on. Can you expand on this ? I love your channel. Very informative.
@johanb.7869Ай бұрын
Really? I don't exercise, except 10 reps of squats twice a day. 3 times a week. I do daily walks in high tempo for 30 minutes every day. 2 to 3 times a day and every 3 years I do the bone density check and each time it has stayed the same=good. I can now go every 5 years, instead of 3 so I don't understand. I have osteoporosis since I was 32. Inherited it from my father.
@happycommuter3523Ай бұрын
I’m guessing vigorous walking vs just strolling makes a difference. My doctor told me walking is excellent for bone health.
@Mer17910 күн бұрын
Your doctor was right. Walking doesn’t do much for your bones but brisk walking is better and of course it has other health benefits. You need impact to benefit bones such as skipping and lifting heavy weights under supervision. You want to speak to a physiotherapist who has experience in OP before starting any program.

This was excellent . I do Pilates using machines and only do a standing roll down using the bar on springs at the end of the Cadillac .i had understood that because the bar and springs support my weight and of course I am not bending so far , that this was ok. Could you please consider if I can still do it this way. I have told several friends about these videos and they have all be so pleased with your content. Thank you.
@Wee1624 ай бұрын
First of all, for such a specific question ask your Pilates instructor, not an online physio. Second, the role of the springs aren’t to support your weight. They are to help provide a cue so you engage and strengthen your powerhouse and to help you articulate your vertebrae as you roll down with control. The roll down is not a stretching exercise nor is the movement coming from your spinal muscles. You are practicing articulation of each vertebra while using your core strength to drive the movement. You should not be rolling down beyond your waist (crown of head parallel to waist) because then it becomes a stretch, which is not its purpose. Just like Spine Stretch Forward on the mat, imagine rolling over a beach ball in front of your waist while someone behind you is simultaneously pulling an imaginary band around your waist. Ask your instructor to review the wall series of exercises so you better understand the purpose of this exercise.
