There is a lot this video overlooks about both the threats, law and nature of the world in question. Humans know that titans have some sixth sense that helps them track down humans, thus the creation of the thorn wall formation, to create highly concentrated pockets of humans that will draw titans to them, thus the hiding in the city ruins till the titans leave wouldn´t work because the titans closest to the walls would funnel to the city and eventually find you. The king behind the walls kept resenting peoples memories erasing or re-writing the populist's memories thus preventing them from making vast scientific breakthroughs, and the shadow government banning flying vehicles, with two known cases where people were killed because they wanted to leave, this stoped after Grish stole the founder's power from them and gave it to Eren but still, that gave them a hand full of years to push forward where they learned more about the titans Biologie (with the shadow government holding them back) and after the shadow government was dismantled they began making more inventions like the guillotine and thunder spears. These are all factors that seemed to be ignored here. if he plans on covering this in future instalment fine, overall I enjoyed this episode it was funny how many times he said literal hell.

The thunder spears only came about due to secret documents being uncovered. I don't think he really has all the details cause these decisions he suggests are very surface level when you think about it

I want to preface this by saying, I don't watch anime, I'm here because I like logical and critical thinking. That being sad, this comment explains to me why they were not using single action weapons (Revolver rifles, revolvers, ect), flamethrowers, bombs, field guns, and automatic weapons. I was very confused by why there was that one scene with SMOOTH BORE muskets. Like, a Flammenwerfer would be perfect here, but I guess that is explained. I'm a history guy, not anime. So thanks for explaining that :)

I'm guessing a reason that the Ackermann's are so powerful is because of their incredible spatial awareness, reactions, and critical thinking, though there isn't exactly any way to prove this unless it is stated

Honestly, you shouldn't give the members of the Garrison so much shit. They have had to do pretty much nothing but guard duty and gun maintenance for at least 10 years. And no one has ever seen a titan that's more than 20 meters, so of course no one was going to think they could ever breach the gates. To them, Eren is the delusional one. Also, anyone trying to build a plane would have been arrested by the Military Police and executed silently. Much like the couple that was mentioned, who tried to escape the walls riding a balloon. I think that was season 3, but I'm not 100% sure. I only watched the first 4 minutes, so please excuse me if you did correct any of this later in.

I think building something like a plane will be much more beneficial for the people in the walls, to take a good look at the enemies below them. But sadly, the government is not allowing them to know the secret. Since the Garrison regiment has the largest amount of soldiers, they should be well-trained and prepare for what's going on, especially thinking and have a stable mind, we should not forgive them because they are scared. All the people inside the wall are. But that's their job and they have to do it. I think to blame for all of this is their government.

(Putting aside the plot points where there are titans hidden WITHIN the population..) They should’ve made the city underground with multiple layers, followed by covering it up with the excavated dirt and soil. After setting up the walls, to buy them time, they should immediately start establishing an elaborate, well-designed, secure underground city. This has a few benefits: 1. Even if the titans get in, should there be any warning ahead of time, the residents can all get underground before the titans have a chance to see them and start searching. 2. Living underground allows the citizens to use the ENTIRE CITY as farmland. 3. If the underground city is well designed, the top layer of rooms won’t have any citizens, meaning EVEN IF the titans try digging around for some reason, the first layer would prove to be a waste of energy. The level of intelligence required to see a wall as a barrier and take it down is FAR LESS than the intelligence required to see the literal ground as a possible place for humans to live without any prior knowledge. It’s EVEN MORE complicated for a titan to conceive the ground having MULTIPLE LAYERS. It’s not very typical for wild animals to be willing to expend effort like this without knowing there is any benefit to it. Even if there is a known benefit, it’s still not really worth it for them.. If people still wanted to go on the offensive using the equipment in the anime, then erecting towers within the town would work.. You could even make them serve as watch towers that see out far past the walls while still concealing the humans. Another thing they could’ve done, since the buildings were all underground and there’s room above ground, is create relatively advanced plumbing, irrigation, and hydroelectric systems. They certainly had the time and the people to heavily alter the path of whatever waterways existed.

firstly the walls are the only reason Paradis survived. if Paradis didn't wall themselves off they would have died off ages ago, and the titan problem is only a thing on Paradis as Marley turns its criminals into titans on the island only, and the rest of the world is technologically advanced enough to easily kill pure titans, even Paradis kills all the titans on paradise once they begin modernizing . secondly technological development is stunted by the island military police which is basically the islands secret police who destroy information about titans and the outside world and stunt technological development to maintain the corrupt government and kings power and control over the walled society. the reason technology didn't advance was because the king wanted that and he used his power of the founding titan to make everyone forget what they learned and knew, and used the military police to silence anyone who defied. thirdly titans have a great sense of smell and hearing and cant detect human presence, so hiding isn't and option. it only really works on abnormal titans but that's honestly a gamble. they can break into a basement easily titans are stupid strong. fourthly no they did not know this day was coming, the government made sure no body questioned the walls and the possibility that titans could break it down, for 100 years the titans couldn't get through and there was a religion about the walls so people assumed no titan could break it down, infact it took a titan shifter to break the gate. as for preparations the military assumed no titans could get through and with the military police stunting technology and the government spreading lies around the garrison was limited in its options. the best they had was odm gear which is good against titans isn't fool proof and takes lots of skill and practice to use correctly but doesn't make you titan proof, and they also had canons which we're powerful but bad at hitting moving targets, they also couldn't reliably hit a titans nape. also titans can detect human presence thusly would find the walls anyway and the cities we're designed to lure titans to minimize security. fifthly where would they get titans from? they can capture titans yes but its a costly endeavor and very tough, showing every recruit a real titan would be a logistical nightmare not only finding a titan but securing and transporting it, which would take alot of time, resources, and effort, and get lots of good soldiers killed, just so a few recruits can shit their pants and see a real titan for the first time. it would be a waste of resources and manpower, and probably only lower the moral of the soldiers as they will be scared to fight the titans instead of being mentally prepared and ready for action, instead they will be scared and afraid to fight and will likely panic at the first sign of a titan and desert their posts. sixthly this is basically a 1800th century society why would they have Psychiatry care? they probably don't even understand emotional and mental disorders and thusly why would they have care for them. seventhly they couldn't run away from the military without getting rundown and killed. and yes they know how to kill a titan, this fact is already well know to the military and its the first thing the cadets learn in training. its not they hardly know how to kill a titan its that its hard to execute and pull off successfully. also the reason they don't trust Eren at first is because they don't know what a titan shifter is due to their poor understanding of titans and are unsure how to react to this, like image you're fighting man eating monsters then find out your mate can turn into one, how would you react? eighthly they can't look into Grisha he's dead, and most of what he knew is in the basement. most records they could pull up would say he's just a doctor.

i just realized it's likely you havent watched the show. spoilers for like s3 and onward, if not s2 the only "designer" of the cities was king fritz when he retreated with eldia to paradis island and created the walls via the founding titan's power, pretty sure he didn't know that titans would be sent to them by marley. plus, not even spoilers, but eren is a goddamn child who wants to save his mom. i know if i was a 10 year old i would run for my mom in this situation.
