I have use both and the rift s is definitely the better headset. I've had only a couple moments while using the rift s where I would have tracking issues but with the cosmos it would be basically unusable unless I used with every light on. If I didn't turn on every light it would say that the environment was too dark but if I opened my blinds on my window it would complain about it being too bright. honestly its so bad I don't think they will be able to fully fix it with software patches. I read online that the sensors they put on the headset are a major issue and will be a huge bottleneck for the tracking in the future. At this point, the best headset to get is the index followed by either the original vive or the rift s.

Man the PC VR market is seriously at risk right now. Valve is in la la land overpricing everything and going for "uncompromising quality" when VR doesn't need that right now, it needs to go mainstream, $1000 plus a PC to drive that thing at 144hz is not the way to go. Then we have HTC completely dropping the ball... Oculus is doing some great stuff, Rift S is an affordable and competent PCVR headset for the masses, and the Quest is the first step in a new frontier that will no doubt increase the reach of VR into the mainstream, outside even PC gamers. But here's the thing, Oculus is owned by Facebook, and as a silicon valley tech giant, Facebook is very likely to just kill Oculus entirely any day now, the company is already bleeding employees including Oculus engineers. If Oculus goes, the VR market is fucked, Valve is on the wrong path and HTC doesn't have a good product. There is zero entrypoint for the mainstream if that happens, Oculus is the last bastion.

VR has the potential to be so amazing but progress seems to be so slow. Games look like really early beta or massive even alphas! Why can't we just put it on in a game like GTA V and the controls where you look and fire (central crosshair) and the normal controller still does the rest.
@Speak_Out_and_Remove_All_Doubt5 жыл бұрын
@@spacewombat4569 I totally agree, VR has the potential for so much more than that but we won't get there without mass adoption and until we get there i think adding support for popular games would be a massive step forward for VR in terms of adoption and popularity. Racing games and flight sims are an absolute must but what is there? FPS would be immensely more immersive if you played with a VR helmet on and looking around was controlled with your head but it's just not happening fast enough.
@jeevana.63915 жыл бұрын
This is more to do with graphics power. VR has to be run at very high, extremely stable frame rates with high resolution to look proper. You also have to take into consideration that techniques that games normally use, like only rendering part of the frame, don't work nearly as well or efficiently. As for the part with moving with just the controller, I'm pretty sure some games do allow it, but it isn't very popular because it causes motion sickness.
@Speak_Out_and_Remove_All_Doubt5 жыл бұрын
@@jeevana.6391 You might be right and hardware simply isn't ready for VR yet, I would just love to try out a FPS like Halo or even something like GTA V with a VR helmet on. It would feel a million times more immersive than staring at a standard flat screen, maybe it wouldn't work because of motion sickness but I really want to try. I can't see any issues with racing and flight sims though as there is no real 'movement' in those, you are just sat in a seat with the world going past you. It is going to be interesting to see what Sony does with the PS5 and the PSVR 2. Even if the console is only powerful enough to render twin 1080p at 90Hz, that would still be sweet if the console gives it the support VR needs to get mass adoption with a large number of games at a price that is accessible.
