+The Demonmit i say yes but wait a little longer. I have the vive but currently, there's not a lot to play. Sure a lot of people may argue that there are many games to play but from what i have experienced, most of the current games are still in development or are short experiences. In conclusion yes you should buy it because room scale VR is freaking awesome, but i suggest you wait.

It's funny that people mention it, but my brother had to finally clean his room for the HTC VIVE. PC GAMING does make you a better person afterall :P He made his room like from 1 to a 100 on the clean scale. It is quite impressive what you can do, when you are properly motivated by video games : )

HTC / Rift should get together, or seperately for a Christmas T.V. AD campaign, with a scene where the girl/boy/both have messy rooms, with no reason to clean it, and then mom/dad comes in with a VR set, and says, now you do, but how are you going to play it, with the room the way it is now, and then showing the room spotless, with all those Japanese shining stars everywhere in the room : ) Of course a more refined version of what I just described, that's just a template for the start. : P

Had my Vive for 2 weeks now.... it's incredible. A piece of tech that totally amazes anyone of any age, gender or interests, is definitely worth the hype. Everyone Ive demo'd it to goes through the same experience - from total skepticism to being 'blown away' as soon as they take their first step in VR. Good job Valve and HTC. EDIT: Though I share almost every opinion with Luke, I think his conclusion is a little off. If you're interested in VR and have the cash, then you should totally go for it. Early adopters are the ones that will shape the future of VR for everyone. If no one buys now, then all the people who choose to wait, will end up waiting for something that won't exist.

Ofcourse you can, I just don't stay engaged while sitting unless I am playing euro truck simulator or elite. After a short sitting session I just want to stand up and walk, do stuff. How far the Vive's cable can handle signal? Personally, it think, that it would be a good idea, to have the cable attached to ceiling and having some kind of lite tension mechanism, to avoid too much slack. This way, it could be used by a single person, without other guiding cables. Only drawback to this idea would be, that bigger play area you want to have - the higher ceiling would have...

Well I bought the Vive, it came about 1 months after and I have been playing it for almost a week straight. Its pretty good even though there are some downsides to it (Oculus has the same problems). The main problem is people, we all know them, the ones that think graphics are the beat all solution and looking at the high PC specs and seeing the lower res in the screens (Both on the Vive and Oculus) you hear them complain about needed 4k, just clear enough. Ok, where is the CPU/GPU combo that can run that right now? These are the best we are going to get for a while, till better CPU/GPUs come out. Even the new GTX1080 still wont be able to push 4k video to these types of headsets.Plus once you get into the game, you forget all about that stuff. I have found myself (and friends) trying to put their hands on counter, walls, etc that aren't there. Now that is immersion...-

I am getting vive rather than oculus. I have both DK1 and DK2 which I have been using on and off for years. The number one issue with the Oculus is the motion sickness. If you are prone to be sick while in a car reading a book then you will most likely have this issue. A lot of people think that first person shooter or horror is the logical games to try but it's actually simulators are the best experience for me so far. Not only it simulates the cockpit, since you are moving in relative to seating, it's easy on the sickness. This is why I am getting vive. The movement is based on your actual body rather than joystick movement. And the game being designed are actually looking well.

For me it's quite simple : The Vive has controllers and that completely changed everything. You've seen what games like office simulator and such can do. You can't do that on a Rift. Vive is not just a gimballed camera, it's literally virtual interaction.

I have the room, but heavily upgrading my rig after getting the Vive would break the bank. So far, the games that I would buy at their current price would be Space Pirate trainer, which I tried in a demo, and Tiltbrush. I would definitely use it as VR gets implemented to simulators that I own such as Elite: Dangerous and Rise of Flight.

you made setting up the Vive seem a lot more complicated than it really is. You don't need to use measuring tape. I hooked it up at my hotel, I just put one light tower on one corner and the other light Tower in the other Corner, started the program up Kama calibrated the room and it was good to go. It doesn't take a lot of thought.

Best setup for the Vive would be have the wire attached to the ceiling, and have the sensors wall mounted in a max size room. Would be dope af

That's funny, because after the CES tech demo with the reversible cables, I bought some 2 meter cables which I love, from a company called BlitzWolf. The cables also come braided, come in many colours, are twice the length of the silverstone ones, come with 18 month warranty, and almost half the price! Fancy that, the high end prosumer company wants to sell an overpriced cable, because you're pretty much paying for the name... I'm not trying to advertise here (although it sounds like it), but if you're really interested in a reversible cable, shopping around never hurts.

Just wanted to say the htc vive is probably one of the best investments I have ever made. I own the msi gt72s dominator pro g, 980m, no op;timus, and it runs the vive like a dream. No framerate drops or stutters in my games. It is truly magical. Playing games like elite dangerous, dcs world, and hoverjunkers with latency free experiences is amazing.

I bought on in Australia and it was REALLY freakin expensive - on top of the thousand plus Australian customs added $200+.. but so far it was worth it. Now I really want to upgrade my GTX 970. I'm hoping for some great games and integration with existing games - especially racing like Dirt Rally which are my taste in gaming. I just wanted to be part of the future really! Thanks LTT and especially Luke for some great coverage so far.

Ever thought of wearing it while playing on a keyboard and mouse just to get the immersive visuals. Like play fallout 4 so you can look around with the headset when looting. Just an idea, would probably be hard to implement though.

After owning one of these for a few months, buyers remorse has start to set in. It's cool, but the fun little indie games run their course (Audioshield, The Lab, Job Simulator, etc) and the "good" games either don't have a big enough community to reliably play good multiplayer (Hover Junkers, Elite Dangerous) , or just aren't worth the price tag (EVE Valkyrie, Project Cars). I don't know whether I should sell off my Vive, or hope that it it doesn't die off and developers start putting out better games.

As a proud Rift owner, I can say that I am very happy with my purchase. That being said, I would really love to have a Vive, but unfortunately the space requirements prevent me from doing so. Full immersion VR is really fucking cool to me, and is technically superior to the Rift's VR, but you you have to remember that not everyone will be able to use it. The Rift is still able to provide an excellent VR experience, even without the motion controllers. They certainly did not skip out on build quality either, as everything from the packaging to the actual headset is very sturdy. Overall, if someone were to ask me which one to buy, I would simply have to tell them that it would be up to their budget and whether or not they are able to dedicate the space (and time) to using the Vive. Why hate on either though? They occupy their own niches in the market. Let's all just calm down and have fun with VR!

Vive owner here. Should you buy one? If you have the money, or means with which to purchase without breaking the budget-YES! It should not even require deliberation in that context. If you're strapped for cash, wait. Get it when it is cheaper. There will be more games by then and they will be cheaper too. The first time you fire up space pirate trainer-it is over, you WILL be assimilated into the VR collective. None can resist, in fact; resistance is futile. You don't need a big space at all, that said the bigger the better. Mine is 4m x 3m, holodeck padded floor, base stations are beyond recommended range yet no tracking issues. It is the most amazing piece of tech I have ever bought and I've been buying consoles and tech doodads since the 80's.

Owning a vive, I have to say that I love it, its accurate, I don't get motion sickness with it [But I don't get it with anything, really] It has a number of interesting titles, and the controllers are badass but I have to say, the one thing making me consider selling it is the resolution. It's frankly a sea of pixels at times, and i wouldn't imagine the Rift is any different, due to the same subpixel setup, and similar optics. If you care about resolution at all, I would suggest holding off on it until you have the chance to test it yourself
