I had a hard time deciding whether Hu tao saw people as money or as actual people throughout her business. But then I played her quest, its clear she wants people to move on with no regrets (even taking a job herself to do the same XD). I understand why people dislike her, shes easy to misunderstand, but seeing how she went out of her way to make the fake ghost, made it clear she cared about people more than just business opportunities. She doesn't see death as anything scary, and once you realize that, you realize she just wants you to experience it as a good experience. In conclusion, Hu tao is my favorite characters and I hope the other characters get to realize how cool she is XD

the chinese taboo surrounding death is still quite heavy; in formal settings, few of us wear black suits/ties for that reason, and we stay away from mentioning the word "death" or anything that sounds like it (the euphemisms for death and such are all part of hutao's vocabulary in the trailers...) and we often omit the 4th floor and subsequent ones in buildings (14, 24, etc... more superstitious people will also omit the 13th) therefore hutao is basically violating a huge taboo left and right with what seems like impunity in chinese, thus explaining why liyue characters are far more taken aback by it than western audiences would be

I noticed that liyue had a much more 'death is taboo' view versus mondstadt folk (who basically tie death to the winds and Barbatos by extension, so I assume the idea of being ferried by their god to the afterlife is a lot more comforting than the "black empty abyss" idea one of the ghosts in the border mentions being afraid of), which made me curious to know if it was another chinese influence to the nation or not. Well its not that she's desperate for something but more like She decided to be very happy go lucky ever since she was able to travel through the otherside. Eversince her grandfather died she had the feeling and job to put his spirit at rest (which she eventually did) then lived by the moto "Live life by its fullest" since she too now knows time waits for no man. The hat she also wears is from her grandfather which she refitted alot of time just so she could wear it. Needless to say she values her grandpa alot and now takes over whatever he did when he was at the wangshen funeral parlor which she takes of utmost importance.

Definitely got that sense as well. I believe the implication is that her grandfather intentionally sheltered her from the outside world (possibly due to her ability to see and interact with the dead) and now that he is gone she's craving connections with other people, but doesn't really know how to do that outside of the funeral parlour business. So she's doing all this crazy stuff to promote the parlour both in order to stay in business and finally get outside a bit and talk to people, not realising how off putting her relaxed attitude towards death is to most regular people, because to her that's just business as usual.

A little translation thingy but there was a little translation error when translating Big G’s name. The actual translation would be Big Brother G. The honorific “big brother” or “哥” is used in Chinese to address someone who is older than you and you are close with. It doesn’t necessarily have to be someone who is apart of your family. They probably chose big (even though brother G would of been fine) is because in English you only address someone as brother if they are in your immediate family. So it would of cause a confusion in players because they would assume that G is family with the other npcs. So this means that “big G” was the oldest in the friend group and they were super close! I just thought that would be a fun fact to drop in here.

After seeing this side quest I strongly headcanon Hu Tao as autistic. Watching her on screen made me feel like I was looking at myself, with the witty dark humour, and the constant misunderstandings from other people (that decomposing one liner was gold I don’t care what anyone says). I really relate to her whole “death is natural and shouldn’t be feared” thing and initially couldn’t figure out why everyone was so off put by her even though she was telling the truth. She is now one of my favourite characters in the whole game and I can’t wait to see more of her.
