Had this phone 12 months and I score it extremely highly for performance, camera, features and everything else in-between. After nearly 12 months of using this phone as my daily driver I can honestly say that my attitude towards it hasn't changed one bit!!! This phone is incredible! I often change my phones every 12 months or so but after having this phone for nearly a year, I'm highly unlikely to be purchasing anything else in the near future. It's just been so consistently good! The battery life is the BEST I have ever encountered and still after almost 12 months I am yet to drain the battery below 50% and I often average 4 to 6hrs screen-on time every day with at least 16hrs away from the charger at a time. Android 9 Pie and EMUI 9.0 update have made the phone UI seem more fluid and refined than when it was originally released on Android 8 Oreo - although it's never felt like clunky software experience to use from the get go. The update has just simplified things a bit more and increased the ease of access to functions and applications. The cameras are INSANE!!! I don't care what people say about the Google Pixel 3 camera or any other phone for that matter..... no phone compares to the versatility that this phones camera array provide at this current price point. The 3x optical and 5x hybrid zoom functions just make photography on this phone an absolute pleasure. Gone are the days you had to sacrifice image quality to get that zoomed in snap on the device in your pocket! Huawei's Artificial Intelligence (AI) in photo's is either something you love or you hate. Plane and simply, I like Huawei's AI post processing of images. It's given me some amazingly vibrant shots that stand out and if you post your images on social media, that's what you want isn't it? For your images to stand out? If Huawei's AI colour vibrancy annoys you and you want more natural looking shots you can always turn off the AI altogether. I've seen many people debate about Huawei's post image processing but I actually don't know what's to debate about? If you like it then good. And if you don't just turn the feature off. Either way, the camera always produces outstanding well-balanced results! Night mode was a pioneering feature when Huawei released this phone. So good in practice that many competitors including Google and Samsung have created their own versions. On the P20 Pro the results CAN be fabulous!!! The only let down is the length of the exposure required for the phone to take the picture. If there are too many moving objects in the photo, the end result can sometimes come out slightly blurry - which is a negative to Huawei's deployment. But overall, I have taken some amazing night time photos with this phone in conditions even many 'actual' cameras would struggle in. I know the Mate 20 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S10 series and many other later/newer phones have excellent cameras, but I just don't believe they are any better than the P20 Pro which currently costs up to £300+ less than the latest devices. Even the front facing 24MP selfie camera is excellent (as long as you turn the beauty mode off) and can produce some great selfies even in the most challenging of lighting conditions. If you want an ace camera phone with bags of versatility that won't let you down, then the P20 Pro is the way to go! Performance in a word..... fantastic! No slowdown, lag, crashes and even RAM management, when you have multiple apps open in the background, is still the same excellent experience as it was nearly 12 months ago. In terms of speed, no its not going to be quite as fast as the latest and greatest Kirin 980's, Snapdragon 855's or Exynos 9820's but you would only ever notice that performance difference if you were comparing side by side launch times and benchmarks etc, which most people won't. The P20 Pro is super quick and in the real-world, I don't believe that performance should be a reason you choose not to buy a P20 Pro over a newer device. The handy IR Blaster on the top of the device for controlling your TV etc, is great and I wish other competitors would offer it too because I just love it! I thought it was an outdated feature at the time of purchase but its been so useful for me... just great! A downside for me when I bought the phone however, and its the same today, is the lack of a decent Always On Display feature. Still, Huawei's AOD will only show you the clock, battery life and Huawei App notifications but no customisation or third-party notification support e.g. no Whatsapp or Gmail notifications on the Always On Display. Its not a deal breaker because the phone does also have a good old fashioned notification LED which works well for all notifications but it would have been nice for Huawei to better develop their AOD to make proper use of that excellent AMOLED screen when you're not using your phone. Google, Samsung, LG and OnePlus all have decent Always On Displays. Its just a shame Huawei don't seem to think this is a feature they should care about. Also, Wireless Charging is a feature which the P20 Pro skips out on. But in all honesty, in the time I've owned the phone its not something I've cared about and never once have I missed having it. The battery life is just so good and the charging time on the supplied charging brick is just so quick, you never really feel the need for wireless charging with this phone. Audio quality has always remained excellent out of the box and I have had no issues with the screen at all. No burn in, blue shift, crushed blacks or any of the things people often complain about with AMOLED panels after several months use. Just 100% great, consistent screen viewing with vibrant colours and fantastic, well-balanced audio quality. The phone doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack but 90% of new phones these days aren't bothering with this either so I don't really see it as a 'big deal'. Especially as wireless earphones/headphones have come down in price significantly over the last few years and the Bluetooth wireless support for audio devices on this phone is very good, its not really a problem in my eyes. Plus, Huawei supply some fairly decent USB-C earphones in the box which is quite good as well as a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adaptor if you did want to use your wired earphones. I personally love the speed and accuracy of the front fingerprint reader and the face recognition and neither have ever failed me yet. So what do I think??? This is one of the best and most versatile phones I've ever owned! It just consistently performs whenever I need it to. It's not perfect in any way but then no phone to date is. It's key selling points are the things it can do. Huawei have designed this phone (whether intentionally or not?) to appeal to ALL types of users and everything it can do (hardware and software), it does with aplomb. Like I said at the start of my review, I normally change my phones roughly every 12 months, around the time when the next best thing comes out - but on this occasion I don't believe there will be many (or any) phones in 2019 which offer any sort of upgrade on the features and performance that Huawei can currently offer in the P20 Pro package. Yes, some new phones may be more powerful or offer in-screen fingerprint readers etc, but are these features actually worth the extra cost over the current £600 asking price of the P20 Pro? My answer is definitely no. So if you want my thoughts on whether you should buy a P20 Pro..... then yes I would definitely say you should go for it! Build Quality, Consistency, Performance, Versatility and Battery Life are all reasons I still think 12 months after launch, the P20 Pro is still a king of smartphones!!!

I've recently upgraded from my p20 pro to a p30 pro. I've had my p20 pro for a year, got it bc of its unique color. Since p30 pro is currently the best phone on the market, last week I've decided to upgrade. Trust me, there's no need for you to upgrade if you already own a p20 pro. I had to look at the yt videos to see what's the difference between the two, bc i could barely tell. The only difference I can feel is the front camera. P30 pro has a better selfie camera, the rest is pretty much the same.

Not enough of an upgrade for me. I have the P20 Pro. Phones aren't changing enough in 12 months to warrant an upgrade. The 970 in the P20 Pro is still plenty capable for everything and the camera is incredible. I much prefer the capacitive fingerprint sensor over the in display ones, they're not fast enough yet. Maybe when I can upgrade when the Mate 40 is out it'll be worth it. But at the moment, they're not. Just my opinion though 😊

As a P20 Pro owner, I am very tempted as I could get the P30 Pro for 40% off on release day, but I don't think I will. Not a fan of the curved / edge display, which I expect to cause a lot of wrong presses. I don't really want a 'longer' display either, while most video content is in 16:9 anyway. Good old 1920x1080 (or 1920+however many pixels they can fit to cover the notch) would be fine. Since I don't use my phone for gaming, I don't expect to be able to feel a difference in performance. While the Camera, in-display fingerprint scanner and wireless / faster charging are certainly tempting, I'm going to sit this one out. Let's see what the Mate 30 Pro will bring to the table later this year, or if even another year makes sense for 5G and/or foldable Phones.
