Peru & Bolivia Episode 13: After exploring Machu Picchu the day before, we're climbing Huayna (also spelled Wayna) Picchu, the iconic mountain in the back of literally every picture of Machu Picchu, ever. A highlight - next to the stunning views - are the many steep and perilous stairs, also called the stairs of death!

Beautiful video. Did that climb with a buddy back in 1984. Used a Super 8MM Camera to capture the views. No ladders back then. Rope used to scale to the very top. Very few attempted that portion. It was raining that day and agree that coming down was more difficult than going up ! Great memories.

Not sure if you realised but the obelisk stones are mirror images of distant mountains. You need to walk around them and find the perfect match in the distance. There are many such rocks around the site like these but I don’t know their significance. We loved our time there. Blue sky all day.

The reason for the rope around the Hitching Post of the Sun is because a number of years ago, a brewing company wanted to shoot a commercial there. Their request for a permit was denied, but they went ahead anyway. And...a camera crane knocked the top off the monument. Was a huge scandal in Peru. They had to cement it back in place. Prior to that, there was no rope (I was there in 1987).

Are you guys aware that Wayna Picchu is actually the nose of a much larger human face sculpture? The whole mountain of Wayna Picchu is actually carved in the shape of a human face lying down looking up at the sky. To the right is the eye, eye socket, and brow ridge, to the left is the lips and chin. It can only be seen from certain angles while on Machu Picchu. Once you see it, you'll never be able to unsee it!

@@huitzilopochtliollin-tonat1492 Can you explain scoop marks in solid bedrock that resemble the same scoop marks as if it were just as soft as a spoon going through ice cream? You yourself said it was bullshit for man to carve an entire mountain into a human face, how else are you going to explain how it was done as it was obviously done by a race that was more technologically advanced than we are today? How about a mile long stretch at the top of a mountain range, shaved off perfectly flat with no evidence of roads or tailing piles from it's construction? How about machine tool marks in the stone at Egypt when supposedly there were no machines? There's more proof that they're out there than not. Ignorance is your enemy!
