Just purchased APP for the initial reason of separating Ha & OIII from OSC ASI 294MC Pro data. Your video hit the target and I also learned the next steps. I know this is late in the game related to the time stamp - but a well done video is reviewable for years

Thanks for the kind words, this was done using the Optolong L-Enhance filter that filters all lights except in the H-Alpha, H-Beta, and Oxygen 3 wavelengths. These typese of filters were made for OSC cameras and does a fantastic job blocking out street lights and other types of light pollution and is ideal for city residents.

Dear Eric, thank you very much for this video, it's exactly what I was looking for. Can't wait to give it a try. I just received an 'L-enhance' filter and am eager to see how it performs. I use Hyperstar and was told that for such fast systems 'L-enhance' is preferable to 'L-extreme'. Any thoughts on that? Anyway, thanks again for the video.

Hello Eric, Great tutorial and I'm planning on giving this a try with M16 image. Question, When I take my original data and run it thru the steps you recommend, getting the Ha, OIII & OIII mono frames to do the RGB combining, my Ha & OIII show in color and look the exact same. I see yours is in black and white and there is a visual difference between the two. Why is that? Now I'm a newbie to APP so maybe I have a setting wrong? but I followed your steps pretty much to the tee. Any help would be appreciated. BTW I see Mike on the Michigan Astronomy Group fairly regularly!

I see that when you do this, you check all 3 boxes on the load tab, multi-filter, and multi-session, as though we are swapping filters and going out on multiple nights. When you do this, APP shows you the red, the blue and the reddish light files when they are added. Also, doing it this way, you would have to re-load the lights etc., each time and not just push the integrate button again after selecting the next "filter". I guess you tell AP to use the flats/dark-flats/darks for "all sessions"? Or do you reload those as well? I actually tried it this way twice, and both times ended up with APP mis-matching the sizes of the stacks to each other, as though they hadn't been normalized to each other. Even though I see that APP does do the normalization tab again. Another video I watched just used the same file load for each integration and just re-selected "integrate". Do you "save" the normalized lights after each tab 5? I wasn't "saving" that tab. I can't get it to work either way. Doing it either way, my individual stacks look perfectly fine. But they will not "combine RGB".

Hello . Great tutorial. Watching you from quebec , canada ! I have a question. Im starting in astrophotography so maybe it's a dumb question . When you integrate, do you have To use your calibration frames on each integration or just one time is enough ? Thank you :)
@AstrowithEric
@AstrowithEric 2 жыл бұрын
When you integrate your target, APP creates master calibration files of your darks, flats, bias (or dark flats-if using a dedicated cmos astronomy camera). If you keep your imaging train intact you can reuse the master calibration frames you created in the first integration if your exposure time is the same as the first image. If the time is longer, you’ll need to get new dark frames to match your lights and make a new master dark calibration frame. But you can use the same master flat and bias/dark flat. Key is not to break you imaging train apart if you want to keep using the same master calibration frames. The moment you break it down, you’ll need to create new flats and bias/dark flat frames to create new masters. Hope that helps answer your question.

Thanks Paul, yes in theory this should work with any OSC or DSLR, there may be some differences for tab 0 but other than that it should all be the same, oh and you’ll use bias frames instead of dark flats. Give it a go and let me know what you think.

The settings in the video are not perfect for all images or targets, there will be changes to the calculations. Like many things in this hobby, its trial and error. What camera and filter do you use? That can play a part in it also.
@paulwilson8367
@paulwilson8367 3 жыл бұрын
I have tried this on 2 nebulas shot with L-extreme. Tried it over and over again, re-watching video. I get errors every time at the end when I tell APP to "calculate". It says: Encountered error in module: CombineThreeChannelFloatBufferWorker java.lang.ArrayIndexOut Of BoundsException 29736366. Of course, no one knows what all that gibberish means. Other than, no luck. I was confused for awhile, because your vid doesn't show the loading page. I started out thinking, since we are mimicking mult-filter/multi session, that I would check those boxes. That lead to sizing errors. Eventually left those unchecked, but still renormalized every time. Something I am leaving out or putting in that shouldn't be there. Don't know what.
@AstrowithEric
