I couldn't like this video fast enough. I love the idea of looking inward to see where we each fall short and approach situations from a position of pride. I agree with you that the idea of American "exceptionalism" has produced a population that has taken our democracy for granted and thinks they are different and immune to the seduction of autocracy.

"The sense that we must be right because we feel it so powerfully.... that feeling of tribal superiority and self righteous confidence and the absolute goodness of their own position.... most self-satisfied, self-flattering, self-deluded zealots in the nation." Thank you again, Pat, for so accurately putting into words what so many of us have been watching happen to so many in our Christian communities and with a disturbing recognition that this is not of God; yet not knowing how to go forward with this divergence from the gospel. I appreciate you sharing how we must go forward with the same humility that we pray that others will show in finding God's truth in our daily Christian walk. I recently heard a sermon which outlined 'humility as our greatest challenge in growing in our walk to becoming closer to our Lord and becoming more like him.

President Biden was a great president. I definitely would have voted for him again. My one complaint is that his AG Merrick Garland didn't prosecute trump for the insurrection and took way too long to appoint Jack Smith. Also Ailen Cannon should have been fired for her blatant disregard for our national security

Biden was the worst president America has ever had. What good did he do? He was weak. He never took a stand for anything. He allowed America to be unsafe with his open border, which allowed terrorists, drug cartels, and gangs into our nation. He caused the lives of our soldiers in the AFGHANISTAN pullout. (13) I believe. He has never shown any remorse. He also left millions of dollars of our military equipment behind for our enemies to use. THAT'S a good president??

My charitable assumption is that Merrick Garland, much like Mitch McConnell, assumed that Trump's political career was over, and that actually applying consequences to politicians has the potential to create dangerous precedent. But, yeah, I am also quite disappointed.

As a Democrat, I am not offended by what Pat talked about. I didn't want President Biden to run for re-election. I felt he was too old. And after that disaster on the Debate stage, I wanted him to drop out right then. I felt humiliated by his performance at that Debate. It didn't matter that he later said he had a cold. I am a musician who has done public performances. I have had colds before when I had to perform. I was able to speak in coherent ways and give a good presentation even though I wasn't feeling well. When he gave answers to the press whatever, off the cuff, he had much hesitation in his speaking: "I ugh, want to say ugh, that ugh, however, anyway...." When he has given prepared speeches, they have most often been excellent. Off the cuff, he'd sound incompetent at times and make big gaffes also. I'd feel humiliated because I did vote for him. We have many educated, smart, knowledgeable and experienced Democrats who could have run for president. They could have won if Biden dropped out earlier and they had a longer time to campaign. I am right with Pat on this one.

I draw a parallel between Trump and the story of Saul. The Prophet Samuel warned the people about the consequences of having a king. He foretold that a king would enslave their children, seize their best vineyards, and strip away their freedom. Despite these warnings, the people demanded, “Give us a king!” Saul’s downfall was rooted in pride, which led to his eventual ruin. This scenario feels familiar. When criminal behavior goes unpunished, pride takes over, and evil sets in. The next four years may be challenging, but remember, God still reigns. Keep your heart aligned with the Lord.

I've been dealing with this & thinking a lot about it, as well as conviction when losing patience, returning hubris for hubris...lol! I'm surrounded by extremists I've had to realize can't be reasoned with, esp RN. What I've noticed in thinking on this, is my pride (hubris) is from a sort of lazy impatient ways I set a boundaries when cornered, esp when tired & not feeling well. But after agreeing wrong is wrong no matter by who, I'm still met with a demand to support Trump & his wrongdoing over what they refer to as the satanic cabal of "evil" demoNrats, or else, followed by raging tirades nobody can really listen to or hear, nor do th seem to care or actually want conversation. All of this shows me their pride/hubris is rooted in blameshifting hate/superiority they get a kind of high from feelings of power, which is what they want. Tyrannical power over others with no accountability for their own bad behavior. It's interesting this is happening in stronghold areas of this by ppl who'd never act out this way, if not for literally everyone being on their side, including their president now, that's really emboldened them. It's a lot like the football crowd phenom you spoke of It's definitely tribal, but there's also a component of confidence in the cult power & "plan" that's underestimated by the majority bc they're outsiders to extremist branches cult branches I live with & grew up with. It's horrifying to watch the resurrection of Nazi Germany, KKK, Jim Crow etc. I struggle with anger towards that & the smug confidence already acting out, along with many liberties taken with new freedom under Trump to abuse others & force compliance. I'm so glad you did this video. This is something I've been struggling with & praying for help with in my own reactions bc I can't change them, nor even myself, without Christ, so I pray hard daily. I've lived through a lot, but this is hard, esp when realizing how much is at stake, including souls. I fear for my own family I've lost to this & can only pray, and that hurts beyond words. I keep looking for any who aren't lost in generational indoctrination that can be reached or seeds planted wisely and safely. God is so good to remind me of long forgotten scriptures from His Word to guide me with meaning I never understood like I do now.... Wise as serpents, gentle as doves....cast not pearls before swine, etc etc. As He brings them back to mind, I study to learn from each one. That helps keep humble, IMO. Thank you for getting your vid to us, despite not feeling well. I'm so sorry you're not feeling well & hope and pray you will be better soon. ❤

I can relate as well. I have a large extended family, whose members are strongly influenced by their Baptist churches and by their patriarch, my dad. At our annual Christmas gathering my mom was wearing a tee shirt that said “I voted for the criminal and the hillbilly.” She bragged that everyone present ( except me ) voted for Trump. I felt singled out as somehow weird and different. I was disgusted that she chose to bring up Trump during a Christmas celebration. And they wonder why I don’t visit often. I’m so disappointed in my family and my country. I’m extremely worried about what we’re facing beginning on January 20.

I completely agree with you about Biden. You succinctly nailed in in your thorough, truthful explanation of why Biden decided to run for a second term. Hubris. Your statements are the plain truth. Kamala, if she had won a primary, would have had sufficient time to define herself and her candidacy. I see alot of hubris in many Christian believers and it is a stumbling block to true friendship. It is alienating and builds walls. Humility should be the main characteristic of Christlike behavior. A humble attitude is plainly talked about in the New Testament.

Sorry you've been ill. Recovering well I hope. I continue to disagree with you calling these people Christian as I have from the beginning of my time listening to you. To me they are not. Evangelicals yes ,Christians NO. These people could never lead me to Christ because they don't know Christ. I'm convinced they'll be among those told to "depart from me I never knew you." That aside however your subject here is interesting that pride comes before a downfall or hubris as you're terming it here. But let's be clear. We don't know how long that takes days, months, weeks, years. How many suffer before the downfall? We don't know thousands, millions? Let's hope that fall is quick before that can happen but we know full well it's probable that it won't. The big question is what then? We'd better be coming up with answers and plans to meet the situation. That's going to mean more then praying about it. It means action. Action on many levels. We need to be ready to support all the actions that will be needed. Your channel may be useful in that pursuit. I hope so anyways. Good you're back.
