Dear dektold76 - Thank you for watching and writing to us. We loved being at the top of Kaaterskill Falls and walking through those woods - much quieter now than when the Hudson River Painters were there. Good luck with your painting. Kind regards, Connie and David

OMG! What a wonderful surprise to have a new tutorial. I've missed you. Today I practiced painting the Contentment Island, CT tutorial. Please tell me what you paint on for all your tutorials? You make it look so easy. Thank you so very much for your expertise and knowledge. Like someone once wrote on another tutorial, "I'm David Dunlap and I'm an encyclopedia." It's so true.

HI, Deborah - So nice to see you and thank you for your comments! We are so happy that you were looking at the Contentment Island program - we also loved creating that program! As in the Kaaterskill Falls program - we loved being in those locations and walking where the wonderful painters also walked and painted. From Connie - For Season One, David primarily painted on a quadruple primed Belgian linen from Artfix with a lead like gesso - L84C. You can find that in most artstores. Thank you again for watching and writing to us - we love hearing from you. Kind regards, Connie and David

This was great to see- thanks! I was surprised you were using such soft floppy brushes. Are those the kinds of brushes the Hudson River painters were using?

Dear William - Thank you so much for your support - we love that you have both of our DVD sets! We have decided that we would now add these to our KZbin Channel because we created and produced these programs to share these wonderful painters (and, Connie adds - to share David's wonderful insights and demonstrations!). We hope that you enjoy them here as well as our other programs! Good luck with your painting! Kind regards, Connie and David

Like some of the very old videos, he nevers asks the student if he can work on their painting…..nor does he actually engage in a discussion with the student about what adjustments to make. It is his painting, not hers…just saying
@DavidDunlopSimmonsArt2 ай бұрын
Dear JohnWolfPortraits - Thank you for writing. David has worked with most of his students for many years and ALWAYS asks them if they would like him to demonstrate his comments and thoughts on their paintings, which is an honorable, time tested process of teaching painting. We thought that was clear in the programs, but we should have made that clearer because it is an important point. None of his students consider this a demeaning process and are happy to see different ideas and solutions. We realize that others may have different thoughts about this process and have a different method of teaching - we respect that. However, David's student appreciate and want to watch his different ideas on their painting so that they can continue to learn and also to use the techniques themselves in the future. These are works that are painted to continue learning new techniques and compositions. They may keep or change David's changes to the paintings, as they like. Thank you for your thoughts and concerns. Kind regards, Connie and David

“The finish ends up in the studio, not in the field.” So their paintings outdoors were meant only as color studies. Did they take photos back then? I happen to know a ‘gallery painter’ who lives in the Hudson Valley who takes photos to piece together a composition in the studio. To me, I can’t imagine being stuck in a studio with all that is lost by not being outside. I have to question the authenticity of the artistic experience when paintings are produced in a studio. This is certainly not plein air painting.
