Just discovered this channel. Definitely a higher class of tuition with absolutely no breathless shouting at the viewer/learner. Cool. Thanks. I also think it is good to practise hand held approximations to nodal shooting

Hi Hudson, As always, a very informative video. Thanks very much for updating the nodal points pdf for the new Nikon Z9 camera with the various Z lenses. Since I was doing panos for the first time your previous video were very helpful. My initial readings were quite close, just off by 2 to 3. I am using my Z9 on the same Manfrotto fluid head (you recommend) mounted on a Gitzo 3543LS tripod with the Kirk LRP-3 rail. Using the fluid head has made my wildlife photography a breeze and much more comfortable than using my previous Markins Q3 ball head. Thank you once again. Best Regards, Yezdi

Hudson, Thanks for the updated no-parallax pdf. I worked out no-parallax settings on all the lenses I might use for panos and my numbers were within 1-2mm of yours. My LRP-3 was probably at 49 instead of 50. Tough to see. I found it interesting how the 14-30 f4S goes 140-138-134-132-134! My measurements were 139-136-132-131-131. I do have a question about the 24-120 f4S. Your setting is 130 for all focal lengths. I find that very interesting. My copy measured from 137 @ 24mm to 120 @120mm. I have to say this lens was very tough to measure as the differences were in fact very minor. I tried 130 and zoomed in and out and could see a tiny amount of parallax but maybe I'm being too picky-it was very subtle. It's a fun project and thank you for sharing your results. Nice to know I did a good job on my kit. Finally, I really enjoyed your advanced panorama videos. I bought them when you published the first no-parallax video. I even bought the tilting rail setup by bashing some Sunway rails and clamps. I think you described that setup in the first video. Works fine and no need for the RSS version. I agree-not used very often, but I like whipping it out in public-always questions! Thanks, Maris

This might be a dumb question, but so I'm clear, on your "Panorama No Parallax Point Measures" pdf, I should use the literal mm markings on the rail and not add 10mm?
@HudsonHenryPhoto Жыл бұрын
As long as you're using the LRP-3 from Kirk, then yes. Just use the markings. They're not metric, it's another engineering scale, but yes just use the markings. :)

Hi Hudson Great informative video from you. Your panoramic course is really recommendable with lots of valuable tips. Helped me a lot so far. More often I use the drone from Dji Mavic 2 Pro to take panoramas with more flexibility to position the drone where I want to take the shots from above the ground. Regards Daniel

Thanks for the updates as I was one of the folks asking for the measurements for the new lenses. I got my RRS rail from BH Photo after waiting for months. RRS does inform me that there will be a new rail coming out in a few weeks. Not sure if it will be the smaller or larger one.

Hi Hudson, just downloaded your great NPP Sheet - I just don't get it with the Z100-400. Where do you mount this? "No foot" means, you attach the cameras Arca-Plate to the Kirk RLP3? Can vou update the chart for the Z8 - or are the measures the same as the Z9? Thank you and happy Xmas from germany! Ralph
@HudsonHenryPhoto10 ай бұрын
Yep, use the L-bracket. The foot has no markings. I really am not using nodal measurements these days. Lightroom Classic's Pano engine is so good now. I just set near the center of the lens over the axis of rotation and pan and tilt with the fluid head or Acratech pano head.

Is it possible for the lens manufacturers to mark the No-Parallax point on the lens? The rail you use is marked in increments of ten. I clicked on the link for the rail you use and the rail was marked from 1 to 15. I use a Really Right Stuff rail which is almost identical to the one you use. It is marked from 1-18. For my Nikon 24-120mm Z lens it says to mount it at 50. Is 5 the same as 50?
@HudsonHenryPhoto2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it won't translate to RRS sadly. It's only for the Kirk adjustable LRP-3

Nice thanks! When you compare the 400mm prime to the zoom, could you include a very distant mountain please? I saw one guy suggest that the zoom is not really sharp at infinity, although I suspect he didn’t bother with his VR button on his tripod. Thanks.
@HudsonHenryPhoto2 жыл бұрын
I've shot infinity with both lenses and it's razor. The moon for example is pretty epic. You don't need to worry about VR on tripods these days. The cameras and lenses are smarter than that now. V1 yes, V2 maybe. These days, never.

Great Content! I noticed that you did not mention ON1 when you were talking about merging photos for a panorama. Have you found that their software does not handle parallax well? Thanks
@HudsonHenryPhoto2 жыл бұрын
It's not on the same level, but it works well with straightforward simple panos.

Great update on Panos. You mentioned lightroom and Photoshop for the pano merger. What is your opinion on ON1's pano merger? are they keeping up?

Hi would it be possible to measure or mark the no parallax point on the lens and then move the rail to suit when tilting the camera eliminating the need for the multi rail?
@HudsonHenryPhoto2 жыл бұрын
The adjustable rail is designed to make short wide angle lenses work without having the rail itself in the frame, but then allowing you to slide back to work with a longer lens too. I don't see how marking the lens alleviates that at all...?

Could I use the Neewer Macro Focus Rail as a parallax nodal rail? It does basically the same thing.

Hi Hudson. Have you ever shot bracketed panoramas or used the move shoot move for panoramic night skies. I could see one could create some massive files and complicated setups. Lots of fun stuff
@HudsonHenryPhoto2 жыл бұрын
HDR panos you bet. No issue at all. In fact, lightroom has a merge to HDR pano right click option. I used to do them tediously before that was automated. Feels like cheating now. I'd never do a pano with the star tracker. I've done night panos with overlapped long exposures like the Milky Way over Saint Helens in this video, but now I'd capture each frame stacked at 14mm overlapping. You'd need no more than 7-10 frames. Keep some landscape in every frame for the software to merge. Run each stack in sequator and then pano merge the result. Panos on a rotator are far more of a pain than it's worth to my mind.

Thanks for the video into one of the great mysteries of panoramas. One question pls. Would the settings described in your free download also apply to the Novoflex panorama rail. It seems to me that whatever brand is used the parallax measurements must be the same. Cheers.

Very helpful. I Am considering the LRP-3 for my Z7ii (with 5 Z lenses). In your new measurements PDF, for the Z 100-400 S lens, measurements stop at 200mm. Is parallax not an issue beyond 200 mm or are there measurements to use beyond 200mm ? thanks
@HudsonHenryPhoto2 жыл бұрын
I can't imagine doing panos with close and distant objects (where you'd be concerned with parallax) beyond 200mm. :) I've shot 800mm panos, but only of a very distant scene with no parallax concerns. I think it's rare you need parallax measures beyond 100mm in reality. Depth of field becomes such an issue.

Hi Everyone, I found this channel about a month ago and it's my most viewed so far. Lots of great information here. All my tripods/heads are Manfrotto. Until I'm completely sure, panos are what I'd like to do, I've for now, purchased an l-bracket, conversion head for my Manfrotto heads and all the base plates I need for my bigger lens. Also bought a QD adapter to add to my Black Rapid strap. Are there any Canon users here? As Henry is mostly a Nikon Z shooter, I see most people here are Nikon as well. If there are any Canon users here, does anyone have nodal measurements for the 5D MKIII?

I checked RRS. Most of their pano set-ups aren't being sold anymore for a while now. The compact shows out of stock but on B&H says out of stock, should arive in 2 weeks. Your not using the Kirk Bridge on your fluid head anymore?

Hey Hudson, wondering, is there a reason you don’t use the APS-C bodies for panoramas or include them in your no-parallax measures, specifically the Z 50? Also, GENIUS on the Z 9 with the PG-01. We communicated about this via email a couple months ago and at the time we said it wouldn’t really work but obviously inverting the top rail and using the LRP-3 … *chef’s kiss* to you or whoever figured that out! Thanks for the updated measurements, received notice via your email distributions to folks who purchased your course and/or downloaded the measurements through your site. Continue to be impressed by the things you provide for free or update for free so I always try to support you through other means whenever I can. Thanks and keep the good stuff coming!

Hello, I do quite large structured panoramas, (1800-2700mm), and was wondering if you knew of any more modern alternatives to autopanogiga, as photoshop, hugin, and a few others I've tried seem to all cap out around either 4GB export size, adobes 30,000x30,000 limit, or some others with a 200,000x200,000 cap, to put things in perspective the one I'm working on now is about 3.6 Terapixel and due to how autogiga caches images instead of thumbnailing leads to me wishing for other software,
@HudsonHenryPhoto2 жыл бұрын
No I think you're pretty high and dry outside the specialty software with that rig. I mean 30k x 30k is 900MP which is more than I needed to do 30' wide prints for a trade show that looked great at eye level. I just think the demand for that is extremely low. CIA and super niche affecionados. There's not much money in pushing your software to that level. Demand is too low.
